It’s just a shame his profile picture was never updated so I best update it now.

This made me chuckle 😂

@Ian Your really good at challenges on here and I was wondering what's your usual set up before a save such as this Baros one or your triple Zs one

What do you usually start as for your reputation and for your coaching badge?

For me I choose based on a type of challenge so if I'm doing it in a top league I will use a higher reputation ( if the challenge allows )

And if I'm in a low League I will select unknown and work my way up

Brilliant.

Haha, I just thought that it doesn’t look right him being 47 with that profile picture. I think the app is supposed to age you 50 years so I’d say Kean looks pretty good here considering he’s supposed to be about 68 according to the app.

Thank you Adam, I’m not that good, I’ve had some good challenges and some not so good ones but I’m a lot better at the challenges than I was when I first started posting on here that’s for sure.

I’ll usually just go with the highest ones if allowed with me usually as an attacking coach. I might choose to be a general coach or something though on a lower league save as the club probably won’t have room for many members of staff. The badge doesn’t make too much difference I don’t think and once you’ve gained the gold badge then even if you start with none as soon as you go to take your exam in any save it just pumps you straight up to gold which is a bit annoying if you’re wanting to build them up slowly I think anyway. The reputation I usually just go highest on the challenges if possible as it does give you slightly more money, more respect from your players and probably the ability to attract better players to the club.

I haven’t done much at lower leagues this year over a few seasons anyway with my Lord Bendtner Sunderland save probably being the only one to my knowledge. I used to always play that way before I became active on here where I’d just start at the bottom and bring a team all the way up to the top but I never posted those as careers apart from one last year where I did the amateur challenge with Queens Park in Scotland. I may try a save like that before the year is out though as I’ve spent a good while just managing the top teams in various leagues so it’ll make a nice change.

I will give your Bendtner one a read in the morning 😀 should be interesting as I do like Lower League Management and same before I came across vibe I used to just stick to conference north to premier League but since joining this forum I've found there's so much more fun to be had in the game!

And I'm quite similar with how I start a save to you , tho I do find the reputation and coaching badges a bid pointless on the game , the game gets very easy very quick so I'm happy I'm came across vibe as the different and variety of community created challenges helps make saves more difficult

I can’t quite remember what happened when we got to the Premier League with Bendtner other than we got his goals, think we might’ve won a cup though. He was very good at League one level and there were slight similarities to Baros here in that he was very good at penalties which really helped him in the higher leagues.

I was just playing the game normally off and on and then decided to try one of the challenges on here. I wasn’t going to just come on, post a career and never engage with anyone so I’ve been pestering everyone ever since 😂

I have finished season four of Baros on Wednesday so it’s just a matter of doing the update which should be today or tomorrow.

Season 4

The first thing we had to do this season was to decide whether to try and get Baros tied down. I asked the question last time out and more or less all of you said I should try and get him tied down and that we did as he was happy enough to sign a new five year contract. Upon signing he also announced he’d be retiring at the end of the contract and rather than ask him to reconsider I just left it at that as we need 59 goals so I feel if we can’t get those in five years then we’ll just call it a day and accept defeat.

21463039-8E2E-47B4-BD43-0FDD61F6053D.thumb.jpeg.0986d315826418c7f95eb9e8f2d65790.jpeg

Now we’ll see how he and the team got on starting with the transfers.

Transfers

It’s was all action in the transfer market as we moved on a few players who were reaching 30 and replaced them with younger version or at least tried to as we had a bit of a disappointment in that regard with one of our new signings not really turning out to be the player we’d hoped he’d be. More on that later but it was also a bit of a stupid decision of mine in getting rid of Chris Eubank. Ok he was 28 but still looked good as you can see from the screenshot I’ve included and I really regretted letting him go. I had another striker who was slightly ahead of him in the pecking order and he’d been required much less for the SS role recently so I felt his time was up but I actually ended up in a situation towards the end of the window where I wanted another backup striker and struggled to find anyone anywhere near as good as him.

A brief description of the incomings below;

  • Emi Buendía - It was a no brainer for me when I saw we could sign this guy as I’ve had experience with him in the past and was almost certain he’d do well in this league in the SS role. He can play right midfield also so a brilliant player to have.
  • Yuzuf Yazici - This guy was supposed to be my new number one choice AP but it didn’t turn out that way as after carefully scouting him and being pretty sure he had everything we needed his attributes dropped upon arrival and never got back up so a big disappointment he’s been so far I have to say.
  • Yannick Gerhardt - A new nice steady central midfielder who was a big success.
  • Gonçalo Paciência - He was my replacement for Chris Eubank but he just wasn’t a patch on him, just lucky that he wasn’t required to play much I guess.
  • Bilal Başacıkoğlu - A new winger who can play on either side. I’ve found a few decent wingers in this league for reasonable money, a lot have entry level green for the main required attributes and would probably make good squad players even for top European sides.
  • Sídnei - A veteran centre back who was brought in as a stop gap as he’s got great attributes which we require in the system I’m using.
  • Cenk Şahın - Fairly decent left winger brought in as cover.
  • Two graduates were also brought through but I’d be surprised if they feature much and may well end up being sold on.

Team Results

We opened up the season with a cup match which was won comfortably against Trabzonspor and as mentioned in the comments above Baros missed a penalty but what I failed to mention was that we got another in the dying minutes and he made no mistake the second time.

The other cup final was also won against bitter city rivals Fenerbahçe but it wasn’t a hammering and no goal for Baros who came on as a late sub.

We had a mixed Champions League group stage and ended up in third place so we would get the chance to perform in the Europa League knockout stage. I’ve included the only game where Baros scored which was the opening game against Wolfsburg where he bagged himself a brace. You’ll have to ignore the fact that it says he also scored a brace for them as he didn’t and it’s one of those bugs that shows up occasionally.

We managed to have a nice run in the Europa League and after beating Shaktar, Sevilla, Dynamo Kiev and Lazio we found ourselves in the final. The Dynamo game below was the highlight and only game Baros scored in. He wasn’t supposed to play at all but when we found ourselves well on top and almost scoring at will I thought I’d bring him on and see if he could get a piece of the action and he did.

The final was against Man Utd and it was a close run thing until they got a man sent off which really helped out chances. It went into extra time and I went to sub Baros on hoping he could produce a fairytale moment but unfortunately we’d used all of our subs. We ended up winning the penalty shootout though so nice to win some European silverware even though it means little towards this challenge.

The league was also won comfortably but with a drop off in goals compared to last season although this was the World Cup in the winter year and we had our European run so it’s difficult to work out how much those impacted us in the league.

Milan Baros

After scoring in the opening cup game four games passed us by without Baros scoring and I was beginning to think that was it and he was maybe finished. I was wrong as he rolled back the years in our fifth league game and produced a nice hat trick. I’ve included our stats page below the spoiler so you can see what sort of condition he was in at the end of a full game. So 73% which isn’t so bad and I thought it would be worse personally although this was early on in the season before the fixtures started to pile up so I’m guessing it’ll get worse later on in the season.

He picked away steadily after that including a couple more braces, one of which was against Wolfburg as you can see above in the team results section and ended up on 11 goals from 15 games at the point at which we broke up for the World Cup at the beginning of November.

It was always going to be hard for him to keep up his early season form for the full season and he couldn’t but he still had his moments including these two games where he scored a brace. I’ve included the ratings page for one of the games and you can see he was at 69% condition at the end of a full game which was towards the end of the season so not bad really. If he finishes a full game it’ll be unlikely I’ll play him in the next unless there’s a weeks gap but occasionally I’ll have a cheeky punt and bring him on for the last few minutes even if he is wrecked as you never know we could easily get a penalty which he’s still brilliant at.

Once the season had finished he had 26 goals in 43 games which we’re very happy with. He hasn’t declined much more really so it’s looking good now with 33 goals remaining and hopefully another four seasons to get them. No injury troubles for him again but hopefully I can appease you all in that regard at some point and with any luck it’ll be a damaged spine leading to his retirement and the end of this challenge. He just isn’t getting the game time though and often misses full games which may make a difference plus he does occasionally pick up those light in game injuries that leave him a state at which he just wouldn’t be able to play the next game even if we wanted him to. Anyway, nothing much more to say other than we just need to keep going and whilst it is looking good he hasn’t actually scored in any of his last five appearances so we can’t count our chicken just yet.

Great season mate, especially considering his age and ability now. You’re getting very close to target now and another solid season should see you within touching distance.

I reckon 1.5 seasons and you will do it Ian! He's still getting an average of 25 a season which is great for his age!

Congrats on the Euro Cup Win 😀

Your doing so well Ian getting super close now I recon he'll bag it next season and hit the target. And that bug is annoying where it says he scored for the other team

Thank you Scratch, I guess the good thing is that his pace can’t get any worse and yet he’s still scoring the odd goal. Another return of around 25 like you say next year and I’d be very confident. I’ve said before that he’s really good at pens and if he remains so then I think we’ll be ok as it doesn’t look as if much has changed from last year when I took Kean long in terms of him being able to play games. This was Kean at the end of that save and he’d been like that for about 5 years yet was still able to play a somewhat reasonable amount of games.

On season 4: that was a great result mate, 26 goals at his age is fantastic. That sets you up nicely, there should be no way he can miss getting those 33 goals now. He'll get 10 a year just from penalties, so only needs another 6 or 7 from near post corners and he'll be done in 2 years. You just need to watch out for shock retirements...

Thank you Smoggy, yeah it’s looking fairly good now as it just doesn’t seem like he’ll ever drop to the stage where he just can’t score any goals.

Thank you Adam, hopefully you are right and we can get it inside the next two seasons.

The Europa League win was nice and hopefully we can have a reasonable run in the champions league at some point as we just surely be capable of it now.

Thank you Cockers, he’s still somewhat reasonable and I’m not sure what the bottom end returns for him will be in this league and system.

Hopefully we’ll get there in the next two seasons but having looked the Lord Bendtner challenge which I completed last November basically followed these rules so I could’ve probably put that one forward for the leaderboard. I prefer Baros though so he’ll hopefully be the one.

Thank you Scratch, it’s looking good. I mentioned at the end that he hadn’t scored in five games so it does make you think he could be finished but he often has those type of runs and then he’ll either come up with a brace, hat trick or go on a good run of consistently scoring so I’m not too worried at this stage. Yeah he got 12 penalties on season 2 I think and he hasn’t declined in his ability at those so it’s looking good. I’ve got replays on and I have noticed he scores a good few of those free kicks from the edge of the box which helps too and he gets more from open play than I thought he would to be honest.

Season 5

At the beginning of this season Milan needed 33 goals to reach his target of 141 and with four years left on his contract it was looking good so we just needed to keep going. I’ve taken the approach of going largely with a squad full of peak aged players between 24-30 for this which almost makes every season a different challenge as the squad can change quite a lot from season to season so I’ll start with the transfers as I explain this year's dealings.

Transfers

After explaining my transfer strategy above I’m left looking a bit foolish as this year there wasn’t actually that much action in the transfer market as most of our key players were young enough so it was just a question of freshening up the sqaud with one or two new faces. A lot of the outgoings including Diagne, Meza and Linnes were offloaded due to being around 30 and Şahin wasn’t actually so old but I wasn’t so impressed with him at left wing last year so decided I’d try and upgrade him.

The incomings are described rather briefly below;

  • Arne Maier - The more eagle eyed amongst you may remember we had him on loan a few seasons ago. Well now he’s back and he looked like he’d be a decent BBM.
  • Tomas Koubek - A new first choice goalkeeper arrived from Celta Vigo and he looks like a good upgrade on our previous number one.
  • Arkadiusz Reca - We wanted a new left winger to replace Şahin as our back up option but this guy looks every bit as good as our first choice Kılınç so those two will battle it out for the jersey although there’s probably enough minutes available to keep both happy in truth.
  • Sergi Darder - We tried for get another AP which is definitely the trickiest role to get right in this system. He looked ok but I wasn’t expecting him to usher Klaassen out to be honest who still looks like he’s got a good year or two left in him yet.

Team Performances

We won the season curtain raiser and picked up a cup with Baros scoring a nice brace.

The European Super Cup was also won as we beat Dortmund in a closely contested match.

The other cup was also won and fairly comfortably but Milan couldn’t score in the final after coming on as a late sub.

We also had a much more successful group stage in the Champions League this year as we topped our group which whilst not being the most tricky was certainly anything but an easy group. I’ve included the only game Baros scored in under the spoiler and as another spoiler I can confirm that that was the only goal he’d score in this years whole competition.

The knockout stages went pretty well too as we beat Chelsea and PSG before finally being narrowly defeated by Bayern in the semi final.

No problems in the league and we got our goal total back up after last seasons drop off.

Fixtures

After hitting the 9-0 and 7-0 in a short space of time I started dreaming about the Gündogan Challenge as we have the German Suat Serdar in midfield but unfortunately we couldn’t quite manage it.

Milan Baros

Baros did manage one hat trick in this cup game against a low level side.

He ended up producing a great return with 31 goals in 40 games which leaves us with only two goals required so we should manage that next season you’d think. Those of you who’ve read right through this career will know that I’ve almost been praying for an injury for Milan but nothing forthcoming this season either I’m afraid. He’s only had one injury in the first season and I’m determined to play on until he gets one so I’ll definitely play another full season next year even if he gets his goals early on and hopefully he’ll pick up an injury of some sort.

He is declining rapidly now with his physicals about to hit rock bottom you’d think so we’ll see what that does to his return next year.

Score

Milan Baros

Season 1: 24 goals in 48 games

Season 2: 26 goals in 45 games

Season 3: 32 goals in 42 games

Season 4: 26 goals in 43 games

Season 5: 31 goals in 40 games

Total: 139

Target: 141

So we just need two goals which we should be able to get next year but as I said above I’m going to play the full season. I posted the tactic on a previous update and on the next update I’m going to explain a bit more about it and what I look for in terms of attributes for the roles as it can be a tricky system to get right even with a top team.

Thank you all for following along.

@Ian Fantastic season now go grab the champions League in the next as losing out on away goals in the semi final is gutting for ya

2 more goals will be fine for Baros so I'm going to congratulate you now!

Also to make it a cracking save let's hope after the 2 goals the dreaded 13 month spinal injury occurs so you achieve the injury you hope for

Thank you Adam, we’ve been very hit or miss in Europe but this year we seemed very strong and could easily have won it. Just have to see how they do next year I guess as that and the CWC are all we haven’t won yet.

It would be a disaster if we failed from here but until it’s done we can’t celebrate.

I can confirm he has suffered an injury in the next season but even that was a bit strange which you’ll see when I post the next update.

Great season again mate. Getting Baros to score that many with those attributes is like 💥💥💥

Thanks Kane, he’s done well and not long to go now until he hits the target barring a complete disaster that is.

Brilliant @Ian well done for sticking with him, most would off sacked it probably

A simple 2 or 3 games and it's all over 👍

Congratulations mate

Thank you Cockers, I wasn’t sure how it’d go to be honest but whilst there was a chance I was always going to continue on.

Even if he gets the goals early I’m going to continue on and finish the next season.

yes I have just posted mine, I thought maybe carry on until he actually retires, but I thought might as well look at another type of challenge, what do you reckon is a quick but enjoyable one??

Yeah it can be tempting to keep on going until they retire mainly out of curiosity of how they’ll do as they totally decline. I’m starting to think that in this league Milan might always be able to hit around 15-20 but I am interested to see how next season will go as there isn’t really any tweaking going on with the system so it’s easy enough to just continue on.

The striker peak years one can be a good challenge if you haven’t done it yet but it is 5 seasons long. I’m not sure what I’m going to do myself after I finish this one so I’ll have to get my thinking cap on.

Great season that and I hope he gets the job done quickly for you so you can relax for the rest of the season.

Thank you Foxy, hopefully they’ll come without any panic and we can see how he does after.

Doing unreal Ian. Could get this done in the first 5 or 10 games. Do you plan on doing another after?

Thank you Charlie, yes we should be able to do it with no problems from here. I am going to do something else although not sure what yet but it’ll be something with a different type of tactic I think.

Oh wow, he's getting better with age! That's just fantastic mate, well done.

Hope you don't get the Shock Retirement thing in the offseason! 😄

Nah, I'm sure he'll be back and you'll have one more glorious season with him.
