Career Cockers - Late Bloomer Challenge

Just before the new Challenge Cup 2020 came out I thought I would have a bash at this little challenge of getting a 30+ player past his own goal tally.

who did I pick? Somebody who doesn't come across as a prolific goal scorer, making it an even more exciting prospect

so the player is:

So if I'm correct he hasn't scored 100 goals in his career, so I have to achieve 101 goals before he retires.

And the club of choice to get him to that target:

PSG - No reason why, just thought they had plenty of players and money already to build a team around him to provide the assists for him to score.

So currently I have been doing ok with him, but I'm going to park it as I need to get the Challenge Cup done.

So here is the results so far:

Not bad return for someone not talked about for his goal scoring Tally.

His attributes are slowly going down coming to the end of the season, but I did get him to sign another contract.

Great return so far! Around a goal a game is just fantastic. He's gonna get to 101 in maybe 3 seasons (even taking degradation into account)? You're gonna do this easily.

Cheers Scratch, see what I can get for his last few games, and then on to next season, but I've the Challenge to do, which is weird as I can lead Oldham straight to the Prem in 3 seasons, but when I do the World Cup or any other challenge I do Shit, might be my last one of I end up failing again, it's depressing!!

Cheers @AdamNufc it is a daunting prospect, I wanted a team who already had the resources and players to provide the assists, I think Liverpool would be another good choice, but going well so far, thanks

A quick update

Season 1 comes to an end, and I think for someone not known for his amount of goals in a season, more how he helps create them, Shane Long as done ok within a Team of PSG superstars

League Winner (which was expected I guess with PSG)

Awards at the end looked promising for the Team and Shane Long 

Best Player

All 3 taken by PSG, but Long comes in at Second Place

Stars Team of the Season

Again Long is selected as the leading striker

Top Goalscorer

Long out scores all other contenders, including Mbappe who finished 3rd, a clear winner on 36 goals

XI of the Season 

Finishing off nicely by coming in the Top 11 players of the season

World Best XI

To go one better, which I must admit surprised me a little, he is selected in the Worlds Best 11 players 

 

Shane Long

What does he look like at 33 years old, his attributes are slowly dropping, but not enough to completely slow him down yet, no where near as bad as @Ian Milan Baros 😐

Final Stats for Long

So I got nearly a goal a game, finally finishing on 47 Goals for the Season which is a really good haul of goals for someone who is not really prolific in the goal area

So Season 2 is on it's way, and if I can get anywhere near that tally, I should have this wrapped up in Season 3

Thanks mate, I was really lucky with Injuries, he only had a couple, a 1 week and a 10 day one, otherwise injury free

Yes It was a little confusing at first, but I wanted to start the career, and then the Challenge Cup came along so I posted where I got to, so yes this is the full first season now, just hope I can get the same numbers in Season 2

Well I wouldn't actually be surprised if you got him to that mark after the excellent first season, but I did specifically pick 53 because it would leave you sitting on 100 exactly and needing to come back for that last goal... 😄

But really anything over 40 would excellent and below that is no disgrace either. Can't wait to see how it panned out.

Update for Season 2

From season 1 Shane Long got 47 goals:

Season 1 - 47 - 101 = 54

Season 2 League 

Again as expected I win the league and quite easily 

Lost 2 all season, silly games to lose, but overall a very good season winning all the domestic cups also

In - Included the likes of Raphael Varane to booster the defence 

Lorenzo Pellegrini to add to the attacking Midfield

Danilo Pereira to add to the strengthening of the midfield

Out - Couldn't turn down the money for Kempembe and Gueye, the rest was tidying up the squad

Not as much as Season 1, this time scoring 34 Goals out of 45 Games. A few more Injuries left him on the sidelines more than Season 1.

Season 1 - 47

Season 2 - 34

Total - 81 - 101 = 20 Left for Season 3

But Then - 

I didn't realise we was in the Club World Championship where he clinched a couple more before the end of the Season

So his Tally was now sat at 36 Goals 

Season 1 - 47

Season 2 - 36

Total - 83 - 101 = 18 Left for Season 3

Great work mate, really solid score and you'll certainly finish it off next season.

Just a note on finishing off the season - not trying to talk you out of it, but just so you know, the extra goals don't count towards the leaderboard. Eg, I got about 180 with Carroll, but only got 101 on the leaderboard because that was his target. It's a success/failure challenge and if you succeed you get the value of the target. Caught me by surprise, so I thought I'd mention it.

Season 3 Update

Shane Long

Starts the Season at 34 years old, and currently scored 83 goals of the 101 required. His stats are still impressive to complete this challenge, I needed 18 goals, but continued to the end of the Season.

Transfers this season to help assist him reach his goal

In - Included Jose Gaya to strengthen the defence with Cassata. Also Fini was a young striker I bought just to cover when Long is missing due to fatigue or injury.

Out - Nobody to shout about really, just those not required for this season, also I had purchased to many thinking it was a full career, but not in this case

Foreign Player of the Year - Shane Long takes the award with Neymar just behind in Second

Needed 18 to finish the challenge, at the stage he was 2 off with FCN as our next opponents 

2 required to make the 101 Goals

and 2 is what he got, the rest is just history from here

Total at the end of the season sees him finish on 46 out of 51 games which is really good as he is now 35

His records will always be remembered 

And finally a last note from the man himself to me personally - a nice touch

Av. Ratings - sees Mbappe take top spot with Long nor far behind, not bad for a 35 year old against a 23/24 year old

So Long reaches a total of 129 goals in 3 seasons

He only needed 101 - So please can Shane Long be added to the DONE table in the Challenge @Foxy
