Career Foxy’s Fijian Fantasy - Season 3

This is my attempt at my own Late Bloomer challenge.

Introduction

It has taken me a little while to decide who I would use for The Late Bloomer challenge. I considered a few well known players, some ex and current Oxford players and a few unknown names.

In the end I decided to go down the unknown (to me at least) route so I had a look around for players from the most exotic place or remote places on Earth. My pursuit led to me loading up the MLS, Chinese, Korean and Australian leagues as they are usually good places to find the players with more exotic nationalities.

In the end my choice appeared because I loaded Australia and as the career title suggests he is from Fiji which if you don’t know is a group of islands in the South Pacific Ocean north of New Zealand and east of Australia.

 

The player goes by the name or Roy Krishna and he may be familiar to @Kanegan as he currently plays in India for ATK based in Kolkata. Previously he had spent his whole career in New Zealand and had a very successful spell playing for Wellington Phoenix.

My hope is for a few more beauties like this although where I am taking him the standard of defending will be much higher.

 

I like nothing better than taking less known players and giving them a chance at one of Europe’s biggest clubs and this will be no exception as he is travelling from the heat of India to the cold of Bavaria and Bayern. Bayern have an excellent squad and tons of money so I will be able to hit the ground running and hopefully give Roy the Boy the best chance he can of getting the goals he needs. I also hope that the world class facilities they posses will help Roy stay in decent shape for a bit longer yet.

He actually looks a decent player with some pace, movement and shooting but with almost no aerial ability or strength he isn’t the complete package and I don’t think it will be a case of just sticking up front on his own and watch the goals fly in from all angles. I was able to get a work permit due to his caps for Fiji and a I believe the fact I offered over £10k in wages helps as well as probably does his second nationality or New Zealand.

One negative is he is turning 32 right at the start of the season so I am worried that pace won’t last long and that will really slow down his goal scoring. 

At the start of an FMM20 save he has 107 goals so I need to get him 108 goals to complete the challenge. I am hoping I can do this in less than three seasons  and it would be amazing if we did it in two but probably not very likely.

So Roy has some very good qualities and some real negatives as well which I like because I think to get the best from him I need to get the tactic right as opposed to more complete players that can just be stuck up front on there own and watch them bang the goals in.

I will show you my tactic in my Season 1 update and fingers crossed I will have a good number of goals to report on and not a huge decline in attributes.

Oh hell yeah,  thats a fantastic choice. He was instrumental in us (i.e ATK) picking up our 3rd league title in the current season and also was the joint holder of the Golden Boot. I didn't know he was available otherwise i would have surely used him in a career.

He only seems to show up if Australia is loaded so he is easy to miss.

Season 1

Let’s get going then.

Tactic

Krishna obviously needs to get plenty of goals especially in season 1 as he is never going to get any better as the seasons pass by and only worse. That said with his lack of aerial ability and strength I didn’t see him as someone who could play up front on his own in one of the major leagues.

Thats why I went with the decision to play two up top in an attempt to create space for Krishna to operate. Lewendowski isn’t a natural TM but he is an all round striker and can do a job there whilst Zirkzee develops and is such a goal threat himself he can help win games even if Roy is struggling.

It is a risky tactic and one that can only be used with big teams that will dominate and even then the odd result can go wrong but it scored goals and much more often than not with a team like Bayern it scores more than the opposition. 

 

Transfers

The Bayern squad is excellent with most areas covered but that didn’t stop me spending £150m+ on some new players. I needed as good a CB as I could get as I only use one so that was Langlet and then a good DM as well to protect him but also use the ball well so in comes Allen.

Then I needed some back up wingers so I decided to give Gonzalo Martinez a try as I have never used him and the versatile Lazzeri joined as well.

Competitions 

The league and cup double were won but Liverpool did for me in the CL final and Dortmund in the Supercup.

Roy the Boy - Target 108 goals

Now onto the main event and how Krishna got on.

The answer to that is very well, he started the season strongly and was going at over a goal a game after 10 games. That would have put him on course for a 50+ goals season and mean he would be halfway to his total after one season.

It was always going to be hard for him to maintain that form though as the season went on and fatigue kicked in. That was ultimately the case and he slowed down during the winter although not by too much.

He finished the season on a good 45 goals which is 9 short of being halfway through the total he needs to complete the challenge. This means he is very unlikely to complete next season unless something strange happens but if he can do something similar in S2 then early in S3 he should be done.

 

Best Games

On course to those 45 goals he hit two hat tricks including one in the cup final.

Attributes 

He became 32 just as the season started but he hasn’t declined too much so far. His pace is the only attribute that’s gone down in season 1 and as important as that is I am happy that is all that is declining.

 

Player Stats

Roy finished as my topscorer but obviously with the tactic I had plenty of other players scored well to. Lewendowski smashed in 32 as a TM and then Tolisso hit 23 from the Treq position. Although these are technically goals that I would have preferred from Roy I need to be realistic and know that Roy has had a decent season and that the other players scoring are helping the team be successful and me keep my job to complete the ultimate goal. I don’t think if I had played Roy up front on his own and tried to concentrate the goals all through him that he would have added those extra 55 goals that Lewendowski and Tolisso hit to his own total.

Martinez did great and I should have bought Pavon really and had both great Argies on the wings.

2.5 seasons would be great and hopefully he can score about the same in S2 as he did in S1 to make that a possibility.

I considered selling Lewendowski but decided not to as I knew he would be very handy in the games when I fall behind due to the tactic.

Season 2

Roy Krishna did better than I expected last season as he scored 45 of the 108 goals I need to complete this challenge. He is 33 now though so it inevitable that he is going to start to decline quite quickly meaning his goals could slow down. A good 2nd season and I might be set up to complete in S3 and miss a lot of pain as his attributes disappear.

Transfers 

The big news was I let Lewendowski leave for Real Madrid so that I could boost my transfer kitty by nearly £90m. Zirkzee is developing well so it didn’t seem such a big loss to me and enabled me to bring in some good players.

The Champions League eluded me again but it was business as normal domestically. The sale of Lewendowski didn’t effect my goals scored to much either as we scored a similar number of league goals as last year.

Roy the Boy

This was how he looked at the end of the season which isn’t too horrendous really although his pace and stamina going will have an effect on his amount of game time and goals going into season 3.

 

Last season he hit 45 goals and this season he was only two short of that with 42. This is a slightly false amount as I played the first WCC game just before the season change and Roy went and smashed in 4 goals in his biggest goal haul for me yet.

 

This extra game helped boost his total and make the decline not look as much this season. Without it he scored 38 goals in the same number of games as last season so still a good total.

 

My aim at the start of this season was to get 30+ goals as that would leave me a chance to get the challenge completed in season 3 which has been my aim the whole way. 

With a 40+ season it looks almost certain that I will get the final 21 goals next season and complete the challenge although of course injuries and/or a steep decline could put a stop to that.
