Career Woody and Rob H2H: Bad Boys From Brazil

I personally love a good Head to Head challenge, which when you think about it is a funny term. We aren’t actually putting our ‘head’ in to anything, but if we were then we’d want to compete against the best head possible and see where we stood. I looked around the forum and decided the best head I could get was from a @Woody

So for this challenge my head will take on Woody’s head in the Bad Boys From Brazil Challenge. For the full details have a gander here:

Spoiler

In a nutshell it is a two season challenge. You sign two Brazilian strikers with green in the central striker position. You can use any tactic, but they must play in the top line like Double Trouble rules. One striker must be under 30; one must be 30 or over. Your score is goals and assists from both, league points, and league goal difference across both seasons. Any other signings are allowed.

We decided to jet off to Spain and play as the two heavyweights. Woody will use Barcelona and I will use Real Madrid.

So, here is Woody with his views:

“Ha, I love a good head to head session too Rob.
Speaking from a personal point of view tackling Spain is something I have seldom done and Rob and myself have cracked heads a few times on some memorable challenges so I’m pretty sure we will deliver on this occasion too.

Playing around with a couple of spicy Brazilians in the hot Spanish sun should bring us some fun times 😉

So there you have it everyone. Who do you think we will pick? How do you think we will do?

Thanks for reading and all comments welcome!

I believe @Rob completed this challenge last year and with a very nice score but I wouldn’t be so quick to rule out @Woody.

It’ll be interesting seeing the choice of players.

Good luck to you both.

Thanks Ian. Woody is a formidable opponent... but I have ways and means of distracting him.

p.s. Steve Bruce is a brilliant Manager.

No idea who you lads will choose but I think @Woody is chomping at the bit after losing his Warriors save and he will get the best out if his Brazilian’s over the 2 seasons.

When it comes to goals Rob is top class so i have to be on my game here.

I think complacency will be the issue with @Rob whereas you have the hunger and desire to right the wrongs of how Warriors ended for you.

I was very upset with how that ended i have to say. Playing 2 up top is new to me but hopefully i have a something i can use that will keep Rob on his toes.

Player Reveal: Woody.

After the introduction to Rob and my little challenge its time to tease you a little bit more with the player reveals and and the wet you just abit more we reveal how we might be playing.

For my under 30 player I've gone with someone with a huge amount of talent who if i'm honest hasn't quite reached the hights some think he should of reached by now.

He does though fit into where i want him to play and has the attributes i need.

For my 30+ player i went for a guy that has quite abit of Football Manager folklore in his locker.

A man who i think fits exactly what i need as my focal point of my formation.

He also shares the same name as my dad and my all time footballing hero.

Tactically i'm using a tactic i've been working on for a few weeks. I dont think its the finished article by any means but it is working well at the moment and hopefully it will serve me well here.

Ita abit of a mash of symetrical and asymetrical brought together to work (hopefully) in harmony.

The left INF in test was devestating but i was using Messi at that point. Ignore where he is in the screenie. 😂

If you feel teased and almost like you can't take anymore, just wait till tomorrow when @Rob drops his reveal....you'll just pop!!

Nothing wrong with those player choices...

BUT!!!

That tactic makes me feel physically 🤢 and I’m wondering if I have been a bit hasty throwing my 🎩 into the Woody ring as you are clearly 🤪

What a vile looking tactic. Revolting, in fact. We have used different players too, which is great.

You love it really. 😂

Ignore the negativity @Woody, that looks like a fine tactic to get the job done.

Nice couple of players too, so good luck.

Cheers mate. I will show em! 😂

Rob Player Reveal

So I’ve set up camp at Real Madrid and the one thing I’ve noticed is their fine selection of players who like to play in the second line. I decided to utilise this and try to maximise the assists of my forwards and the overall team goals scored instead on focusing on my front two scoring. Madrid also don’t have many ‘proper’ wingers so I had to put funds aside to cover the cost of 3-4 of these. The striker 30 or over was always going to be cheap, but my decisions meant I had to go mid-to-lower budget on the under 30 striker.

I ended up going with Alan, who turned 30 not long before the season started, and Willian Jose who joined for £11.5m and £21.5m respectively.

Willian Jose was someone I used in this challenge last season, next to Luis Adriano, and is someone I really rate. I’d love to try another challenge with him - maybe the Peak Years one. Both had green in the central striker role. Alan was to be retrained to play as a left front-liner cutting in. Jose will play in the middle as a Deep Lying Forward (DLF). DLFs are, for me, a really powerful position in this years’ game and one of the roles I used in the Warriors save.

The idea is that the wingers will overlap to the front line and the attacking midfielders - who are the central quality of the team - would storm in to the box. The plan is that we score a lot. This does mean we only have four players to cover the rest of the pitch...

Alan playing on the side and cutting in gives him a different angle to hit the area and also assist towards goals. I’d have preferred to him be left footed but sadly he isn’t.

It’s interesting that both @Woody and I have gone asymmetrical in the front line. Let’s see how we both do.

Thanks for reading!

Both of your tactics look crazy but I think @Rob takes the biscuit. I love crazy looking tactics. Makes the game more fun! Good luck both 😁

@RichDave32 @Ian

Thanks for your comments. I do like this challenge a lot as it makes you think about the game. With goals, goal difference, league points, and league goal difference all contributing the same, it does make you realise that this isn’t just a  ‘play your Double Trouble tactic’ as, well, that’s a tactic mostly for goals.

What I would say, and I don’t know if @Woody agrees, or @Ian agrees with his Brazil ITN management in his unique IF career, is that Brazil really do not have that many good strikers with bright green in the central position.

Correct Rob..Brazil suck in the striker positions.

A surprisingly defeatist attitude from Handsome Rob and the Potteries Pele is looking nailed on to win this H2H now.

I haven’t really done much searching in that area but they do seem to have loads of IF’s with dark green at CF which is unfortunately no good for this.

Woody: The Half Way Point.

Who the hell thought it was a good idea letting me have the reigns at Barcelona? Seriously....ya nuts!

Anyway, i saw a large bank account and thought i had better spend it.

Aaand i did.

probanly the most i have ever spent in one season. Did i spend it well? Probably not 😂

We are Barcelona so anything less than winning the league is deamed a massive failure soooo, its a good job we did.

I dont get many undefeated seasons so this is especially pleasing.

Our goal difference and league points gives us 187 points towards out total.

In other news....

We won some other trophies and we had a so near so far.

2 Spicey Brazilians...

In testing my wonderfully weird tactic i had used Messi and Suarez. 😂 like it was going to help me in this challenge! 😞

My 30+ Badboy was Alan Kardec. A solid CF who i was sure would do a solid job.

He finished the season with a total of 34 goals. I wanted a few more but i was relatively happy with his return.

Screenshot_2020-09-05-22-33-27.thumb.png.7a0f0c9629736a25aab0fea2688baa50.pngScreenshot_2020-09-05-22-33-31.thumb.png.5f7cf20ce1a827fd581fc212fc6ba5d3.png

My younger Badboy was Gabriel Jesus. Never used him before so i was excited to see how he would perform.

Jesus had a tough start at the club and maybe being at Barca got to him abit.

He collected a just 23 goals. I'm hoping that will improve in the second half of the challenge....it needs to!

Season One:
