Real Madrid - Willian Jose and Alan - Season 1 Results

 

Transfers

As mentioned in my opener, I decided to go middling budget with my strikers to then allow me to bring in a couple of pairs of wingers.

Lemar, Costa, Zaha, and Inaki Williams joined to form the two pairs, with the reliable Sisto as backup. Saul is my Mr Dependable, with Can a ready made backup to Casemiro. I did my usual South American trading, but the biggest shock was the lack of a Bruno Fernandes signing.

Kroos and Modric didn’t fit the tactic so were let go; the other outgoings sold just for the money.

 

Club Performance

By focusing on the league, which is where the majority of the points are, we dipped out of the cups in relatively early rounds. We won the league relatively easily yet conceded 53 goals. The 127 in the ‘for’ column was nice, though, which gave us a goal difference of 74. Added to the league points of 104 that gives us 178 so far.

 

Player Performance

Willian’s valuation has risen to a whopping £97m, which is bonkers. Alan’s has doubled.

Alan’s Performance was the weakest. He scores 16 and assisted 16, somewhat suggesting his role wasn’t working as well as I had hoped.

Willian’s Jose, playing as DLF, only assisted 9 but scored a whopping 62. This gives the players a score of 103.

The strikers scored 78 and assisted 25 between them. I will continue with the tactic in to season two as it has done what I wanted, which is to score a load of goals as a team. The temptation is to move Alan centrally but Jose is so superior as a striker that I don’t want to take any gameplay away from him.

So that is the end of season one. I ended with 256, leading Woody by 12. That’s a tiny margin leading in to the second, and final, season. This should be a close one!

Woody: The Finale.

We have reached the end of our 2 season challenge.

Its definately pushed me to my limits this one and i believe i have a really good tactic which i will leave at the end of this update.

We went into the season needing abit more quality as we lacked in certain areas.

 

The season didnt start so well as our first taste of silverware ended in complete failure.

We have ample opportunities to win the game but we just couldnt score and we were shoddy at the back so we deserved to get spanked.

We did win everything else that was on offer though.

A comfortable league season too as we easily won the league but not as well as we did in season 1.

We collected 190pts for our league form.

Our Spicey BadBoys.

We needed our boys to improve on last season to stand a good chance of beating Rob.

Kardec did decent in season one but he didnt quite reach the same heights this time as he scored abit less with 29 goals.

 

Jesus on the other hand did alot better getting himself a healthy 37 goals.

This gave us a nice 56 towards our season total.

It's been tweeked since the one i started with but i have used this version atleast 70% of the time.

 

 

Season One:

Goals - 57

League Pts - 108

Goal Dif - 79

Season Total: 244

Season Two.

Goals: 56

Goal Dif: 88

League Pts: 102

Total: 246

Grand Total: 490 pts.

 

So this challenge has come to the end for me and i'm sure @Rob will blow us away when he posts his final update.

Transfers

I kept them nice and simple this season. Trent was an upgrade on Carvalhal and Kante was an upgrade on Can. Or at least that’s what I thought. Scarpa was a squad flesher.

 

Team Performance

I had hoped for a better league performance, but it wasn’t to be. Whilst we won it we did not have quite the canter I expected. Most of our losses and draws were right at the start and I was getting a little worried I’d be given the old heave-ho. Once things settled down we became more rampant. 

League points of 95 and goal difference of 82 gives us 177 team points towards our score, which is pretty much identical to season 1.

 

Player Performance

Alan, still playing on the left IF role, improved his performance by scoring 21. Jose, playing the same role and exact same amount of games as last season, dropped from 62 goals to 40. I have no idea why. This gives us 61 player points towards our score.

That means I managed to pip @Woody by 4 points, which to me feels more like a draw. I’d actually finished my attempt before we even started this thread, which makes the closeness even more remarkable. We both tried whacky formations for this which, for me certainly, has made this really fun. I do intend to give it another go with a more sensible approach at another club soon.

Thanks for the comments lads. A bit of a classic this one. As for the Woodster, don’t let him fool you with the ‘I thought Rob would win’ comments. He is an unadulterated rascal. He carried our pair through the VWC, not just getting our top score each round but also acting as a consultant behind the scenes for me. I just had the luck this time. A 4 point win could have easily been undone with him turning a loss to a win and me turning a win to a draw.

Just caught up on this and excellent head to head guys, great challenge and a great battle. Congrats @Roband unlucky @Woodybut it was so close that it could’ve gone either way.
