Many thanks @George Traistăand @Paul186 - much appreciated!

We're halfway through the league season and, after conceding to Chesterfield in the first minute of the new season, it's gone like this:

LWWWWWWWWWLLWWWWWLLWWWW

1118075068_Screenshot_20201228-175841_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.44d8318de14204cfe0e3b529deb9b44f.jpg

Happy with that! When i got on the 9-match winning run, the game responded by injuring a player every week until we lost - never forget who's really in charge :D

Hughesy has been doing the biz with 21 in 22 - he's just missed a few games with a "10 day" injury...

Best game:

For the record, we continued:

WLWWDWWWWWWWLWWWW

Which, as you can imagine, put us in a healthy position - promotion sealed on March 11 with six games to spare!

Our deadly attack, spearheaded by Hughesy of course, has dug us out of some holes - like this 6-1 deficit in Clear Cut Chances:

631165293_Screenshot_20201229-144754_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.9ea9a719b8cb0856a71ccc4fb8f5c79e.jpg

Hughesy only has 30, which is a little disappointing but you'd take it. Maybe we can crank out a few more in the last six games, but for now we can move 44 miles at most from Bradford in the summer... Which funnily enough, on the most direct path from Bradford to Plymouth, places us in a beautiful part of the Peak District with many villages and not many football clubs. Chesterfield is almost within reach but we'd be drifting a bit east...

I'll be looking for an efficient move, so who knows, we may be at Bradford for a while yet - but I'd imagine plenty of options will be popping up...

Finally, I'm glad to see the success continuing - this tactic I've been using since season 5 has been fantastic, but i wasn't sure if i was just taking advantage of the poor Scottish lower leagues. But now it's proving effective in England too, it's time to publish the tactic...

Great going again mate, Bradford fans must be loving this after a poor time for a long time! Looks like the tactic is working wonders for you

And the boys...

35 for Hughes in the end, taking us to 49 goal-miles overall. Help from my old friends with Wiltshire a winger from East Fife and H.Brass a midfielder from Bonnyrigg. Button is a shit-hot 16/17 year old who had a great first professional season.

Nothing within reach at the start of the new season, so i guess i better get searching for new recruits...

Many thanks @Paul186and @zila90- with this tactic working so well, it's certainly looking good for reaching the final target. Still gotta get the job done, though!

I found recruitment difficult this season, with the only tasty-looking players out of my price range. I signed a couple of young keepers and a striker, plus Jewitt-White returned on loan. Also an 18yo RWB who's already playing due to an injury elsewhere, plus a LWB Healy who was a youth academy graduate in my first summer at East Fife - i think he was gold? At this point, 8yrs on, he'd been released by his previous club, so i stepped in to revive his career...

But i liked a lot of my current squad. A lot of talent, plus some relationships already of course. And yeah, we're doing the business - this dramatic win at the 2nd-placed team...

...has us TEN points clear in the early going 😮

981349066_Screenshot_20201231-102723_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.1bee4702c2ec3eca55b5ccfdfe35ed79.jpg

We've had five or six 4-0 wins, including one at Oxford, plus a 7-0 in the Papa John's:

The reserve teams seem to play awfully in this, from my very limited experience of two games, but still, that was a walloping!

Hughes is on 63 overall, i think - keeping an eye out for a job that hits the spot, but in the meantime he's scoring so I'm happy :)

Oh there was a World Cup in the summer - you'll never guess who was in the final :D

Spoiler

The reserve squads play great, în my save at least, so give your boys some credit for the result.

And about the World Cup... pure fantasy 😂😂

League One is not much difference so I say that next year will give a lot more miles

Cheers @George Traistă! Happy New Year to you, and everyone else of course :)

A move came up that i struggled to decide upon... i would've loved to stay and complete a memorable season with the Bantams:

1478841153_Screenshot_20210101-004305_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.5888f6d7579fe5ab9c2d48f397197a64.jpg

But alas, with 77 miles on the clock:

927272834_Screenshot_20210101-004252_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.42fca71e60991ddffadc92a7b2cff491.jpg

We needed 69 of them to move on...

Screenshot_20210101-003146_Maps.thumb.jpg.c41adeb79d1454fcfe7cfe03883f9b6a.jpg

It was not the most appetising situation to move to, but at least i could keep a close eye on Bradford:

67815383_Screenshot_20210101-004315_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.fae6b4ad7461cf5a570e7fd036e681ce.jpg

(west ham, wtf! :D )

Nothing a bit of squad surgery can't fix - but there's only four days of the transfer window left, and...

1312476730_Screenshot_20210101-004337_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.08ef1a6b10fd299c0fa6ee9bd8d5bc2c.jpg

errrr!!

Fortunately they had a couple of half- decent strikers - i don't seem to have Hepworth's profile page, sorry, I'll grab it later, but he wasn't having a great season with only one goal to his name before we started:

1151496077_Screenshot_20210101-004612_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.1368b5656946e44d751d821d253ec472.jpg

I couldn't find anyone worthwhile available for Free, so I've had to make 4 quick loan signings and hope for the best - a midfielder and a winger from Bradford, plus a young keeper and a RWB elsewhere.

Could be a tortuous couple of months ahead...!!

Bradford still won the title by 14pts, but they finished the season 6-6-4, while i won 11 of my last 16 to escape relegation comfortably:

1196295358_Screenshot_20210101-151616_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.d05dbd64e34d17739f8ac3e66871d46a.jpg

That included a sweet victory over my former employers too:

1681488490_Screenshot_20210101-103318_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.472b5d9036149d2a706b9f75eea0c1e5.jpg

Alas, Hep is in a bit of a rut - I'll have to work on surrounding him with quality for next season:

1719457684_Screenshot_20210101-093319_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.41fb4a1e323ab7e2355d02f7863963fe.jpg

As you can see above, he only scored one in our first month together - and he only ended up with 6 overall (plus the one he scored before i arrived) :

Here is his attributes screen that i forgot last time - he looks alright, just gotta cheer him up i reckon:

1483520184_Screenshot_20210101-152522_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.002cf0d6fc1c9b5d1a3ea548e8dc2398.jpg

This is a bit worrying, too!

Never seen it at ZERO. Not much i could've done, and a few big contracts will retire or expire this summer, so hopefully we'll turn this around quickly... hopefully they don't sack me first!!

Them finances aren’t good, but you’re doing great, I’m sure once you’ll get that In order over the summer ready for a promotion push. West Ham not doing well, that’s usually Newcastle in my saves 😂

Thanks @RichDand @Paul186- those finances put me off, but then we have to take the challenge! It'd be boring if it was easy :)

And fortunately the finances aren't super-realistic, so it's quite easy to dig yourself out of a hole.

This helped:

371484961_Screenshot_20210102-204431_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.03c899c50436d69a0add862442f6ec1b.jpg

But with the funds came expectation:

I've assembled a decent-looking squad, utilizing every penny of my allowance, and we've started with two draws, and one goal for Hep...

Halfway stage, and it's been a struggle to be honest. We were unbeaten after six but then lost 3 in a row, and we lost about half our games for the next two months. We've just about started winning more than we don't, now, but the top two are miles clear:

109606347_Screenshot_20210103-221707_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.9baf1a2897779d2747271ba02c73e383.jpg

Maybe the game has figured out a way to counteract my formation, but i think my recruitment didn't go too well... when the injuries hit, i was left pretty thin. January coming so maybe I'll be able to get some more help. I signed a young RWB on a free, he's been shit but he's worth £2.4m so i might cash in on him and try to reinvest...

Hep has hardly helped, throwing in regular stinkers, although he did have one great display, sadly let down by a late equaliser:

1512450499_Screenshot_20210103-213735_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.cf07a76086377ebf2d5972849be44668.jpg

But otherwise just 11 goals this season, 17 goal-miles in total. My world is currently a 17-mile circle around Stoke, a terrifying thought.

I'll play out the season at stoke, but hopefully I'll be on the move again come summer...

Thanks for reading!

Erg, hopefully Hepworth can find a bit of form at the end of the season.

I've worked within 14 miles of Stoke, so I know the desolation of which you are talking about.

If it comes up, Crewe might actually be a good option, they generally have a good youth system.

Yes it's backwards, but 1 step back might be a giant leap forwards.

Many thanks @broodje kipand @Paul186. Yep I'm hoping I'm still in a relatively dense part of the country, @George Traistă- i did Telford last time, funnily enough :)

@geordiekrispythe only time I've ever actually been was for a cracking game between Stoke and my bees nearly 20yrs ago. The hosts prevailed 3-2. We got back to the station and then looked around for a chance to grab a few cheeky drinks before heading back down south... nothing! Total wasteland! Crazy really... Always respected them though as the stadium was really rocking that day... Also one of the best girls in my life was from Leek, Staffordshire, bless her - she was very self-deprecating about the place, but she loved it really :)

Aaaaaaanyway, before i drift too far down memory lane - we're on the charge:

1439152385_Screenshot_20210104-145540_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.2369401dd7f0825cbed11476ab7ba53d.jpg

Even Big Bad Burton can't stop us! (in the stupid trophy, ofc they beat us 1-0 in the league)

940560132_Screenshot_20210104-234758_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.a2237263a78e78783081ce825380087f.jpg

Btw two signings there who've made an impact, Button was my star youth at Bradford, he went to Spurs for big money but was available on loan so... Plus Cook was a youth of mine at Bonnyrigg.

We're up to 3rd in the table, 13pts behind Walsall with 12 to play, nothing can stop us now...

Oh. Plus his strike partner, the next day, injured in training, out for a month. Lovely.

So now my sample size is four, and ok, seasons 14-16 so maybe the AI is falling apart - but my record against Reserves teams in the PJT is now 26-0...

164708886_Screenshot_20210105-100110_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.1b0cd30dbc4d85b913317740b117435a.jpg

We got the trophy after a hard-fought victory in the final:

In the league, we tried, ending 17-4-2 in the second half of the season - but Walsall's first half of the campaign was strong enough to hold on:

1054911857_Screenshot_20210105-151329_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.3fcd7d9cbc616e5ab7c2d26a405f15ac.jpg

No matter, though:

104282381_Screenshot_20210105-155444_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.42284e52057b237f1fb41ac49d9a2f1e.jpg

The team of the year had my front 3 (minus Hep!!), Burton's midfield trio, and yeah far queue Walsall!

443327412_Screenshot_20210105-155703_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.efd9c5a2054379f7b15f75bab0ea1490.jpg

How did Hep end up? 28... it'll do, could be worse...

So we can move 34 miles away from Stoke now... on the cusp of Birmingham...

Slowed down a bit by real life - we're having to isolate in half our house to protect the old people after a positive test at nursery, which means zero peace and quiet :(

We had a couple of early season meetings with my old friends... We came out on top first time, although some odd formatting means it's unclear how many people came to see my return:

1185334007_Screenshot_20210107-202612_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.f512b9d597eaa1855607f36c3ff3c532.jpg

Lee was my loanee last year - ahhhhh, unlucky mate. Love Karimi, he's my reserve striker but a great name to shout out if you're commentating (er......) - CA-REAMY!!

They got the better of the more important match, alas :(

1127451027_Screenshot_20210107-204317_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.28f05c1a70cf5e4133e2d9ab15360cc1.jpg

At least you can see the attendance here. Another great name there, btw.

And that was part of a horrendous run / evening:

645600514_Screenshot_20210107-214241_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.2057494891ad74637dba47d6316eb0d0.jpg

We even lost my first ever meeting with the superbees, which obviously would not normally be embarrassing, but in 2035 they are apparently in the relegation zone, so that home defeat hurt.

It was hard really to know what was wrong and how to fix it. I mean, defence i guess - but i brought back last year's CB loanee, signed a good new young'un, and bought two keepers (one's called Nick Leeson :D ), so there wasn't much more i could do.

We pulled out of the tailspin with a remarkable win:

993058846_Screenshot_20210107-214112_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.6a7a31f7eea9b95210c74bd74a52e0da.jpg

2-1 down on the hour, 3-2 up with 10mins left, win 5-4!

And anyway:

1756890000_Screenshot_20210108-084824_FM21Mobile.thumb.jpg.0c612027937f6c95b51ce8ae770a1808.jpg

Cos we responded to the bad run by winning our next 5 in a row (and 6 of 7). Obviously defence is an issue - I've conceded 10 more than anyone else in that picture :D So I'll have to see what i can do in January. If i stay...

I've been looking for outs. I was 4 miles short of an unlikely move to Coalville, and 2 miles short of Birmingham, although i almost certainly would never have gone to Brumscum. Shrewsbury just popped up, but now I'm 10 miles "past" there, plus it was more west than south, which is where i really wanna be... Hep's on 14, bouncing back well after a rough start, so we're on 48 goal-miles overall.

Thanks for reading! Who knows when the next update will be - wifey is giving me a cold stare as she juggles two children while i have my feet up here...!!

Had a couple of tempting moves, but decided to stay, looking for "perfection". Barwell was an unlikely one but almost perfect mileage, but south-east when ultimately i wanna go south-west, so almost literally a "sideways" move... Solihull Moors was a bit more southerly, but i already had 10 more goals than needed, so i hung on hoping for better...

And meanwhile...

That last one especially sweet, at the league leaders - if they'd won, they'd have gone up!

Family duties mean i can't complete the season now - but this playoff race is insane!

(don't be fooled - I'm 3rd, not top!)

2nd place are 6pts ahead with much better GD, so it'll need to be back-to-back playoff promotions... Meanwhile Hep has equalled last season's total, putting us past 60 goal-miles overall...

I thought I'd have a look at my previous strikers, but Peters of Elgin and Vassell of East Fife have long since retired...

McFadzean fell apart after i left:

And so did Hughesy. Fair play to Dundee for shelling out for a striker with 3 in 40 the previous season - surprisingly it didn't go well for them 😮

So i assembled my new squad, but we stumbled out of the gates:

That was another hugely frustrating evening session of playing, where it just wasn't really clear what the problem was, but we kept playing crap. But then it started going better...

(that game against Pool was pretty unlucky)

And Hep was rounding into some form:

But i had a very tempting opportunity to move on...

I couldn't make my mind up, so i asked my 3-year-old daughter to decide. She said "go to Leamington" (well actually she said "i like their blue shirt"), and this happened in what would have been my last game:

So...

So no. Cos Hep scored in that game too, putting us 10 miles past what we need, and i think that's my general tipping point. We were playing better, Leamington would be a struggle, it was a bit east, and it would hurt my future prospects.

Of course, since then, we're back to being horribly inconsistent, leaving us here at the halfway stage:

Still, that playoff pack up to 2nd feels very much within reach - hopefully just a couple of good signings away.
