Attempt Two - Final Update

After a nice start, let’s see how the second half of the season went.

It was Neymar who suffered the only injuries in the first half of the season which I showed on the last update. The second half of the season also went well in that regard as only Suarez out of the three suffered injury and that was just a ten day layoff. I did put the three on light training which may or may not have helped. There were longer injuries to other squad members so I’m thinking that it was just how it went this time but I do think the light training helped with their conditioning.

 

The team did manage to win the league but it wasn’t a fantastic campaign that’s for sure as we dropped a good few points, although it didn’t help that we lost three out of the last four league games. We ended up winning the Champions League too along with the Super Cup but the Spanish Cup didn’t go for us as we were beaten in the semi final.

Here’s the fixtures and you can see the end of season collapse as we lost three of the last four league games. It’s been mentioned on the forum a lot recently about players moaning about lack of squad depth and I had that on this save but perhaps they were right as the squad just couldn’t cope in May until we got a bit of a break before the Champions League final. I was starting players in the 80’s for conditioning and had Pique out injured until the final who we really missed.

This game was the highlight of the season with the three in fine form.

 

Messi was the star of the show with 47 goals and 51 assists as he went the full season without injury. Suarez hit 38 goals and 22 assists and Neymar managed 46 goals and 17 assists to give us a total of 221 for the challenge.

I’m using a system very similar to many I used on last year's game for similar challenges and based on my very limited testing so far, I’d say that I seem to be able to get more out of the challengers but team results are just not so good with more late game collapses from nowhere and just conceding more goals in general. Probably a good thing though as a system like this should be easily countered. It is difficult to confirm things though at this point as when we had Pique and Lenglet starting together at centre back, I’d say we were pretty stable and I just don’t think my two backup guys were at the required level but were obviously required to play a lot. I only just noticed at the end that Todibo was out on loan all season and could’ve been recalled so I’d certainly recall him if I ever decided to go again as he looks great even if still young. Would be third best centre back at the club for the first season I’d say.

Not sure what is next for me as I have an eye on a few shorter challenges but I’m thinking of perhaps going with this system and having a crack at the goaltopia challenge, I’ve got both the team and two out of the three players in mind.

Thanks Richard, it’ll be more than beatable I’m sure. I’ll probably go again myself on this one at some point.

I went with Suarez as a P and Neymar as a CF at the start of my first attempt. When the two got injured at the end of January I switched their replacements to DLF’s as I’d used a similar system last year that worked very well with the T and Messi was going alone so wanted to maximise him. I kept it the same after the two returned and felt it was better for the three in general so just started with it on this attempt. No idea whether it is any better though yet given the injuries.

Thank you Scratch, all I’ve done so far is use variations of stuff I used last year  I did a lot of similar challenges last year with the top teams and I’d say I’m finding it easier to get the goals and assists to go to the target players this year but results are a bit hit or miss. More testing required I think.
