I still have worked out what I think about it to be honest. I think it has some effect, but not as much as I thought in the beginning. It might only be a small effect and one that's overcome with top notch players. Hard to know...

Badge 4 - Jesus and the Three Wise Men

This Christmas themed badge was originally posted back in 2017 by @Ashez and then adapted and posted this year by @Rob

 

 

Germany invented many of today’s Xmas traditions so that was were I went to try and complete this Xmas themed challenge. Bayern have such a good squad already plus I wanted to use one of there players so they were my club of choice.

 

I wanted to stay away from some more of the obvious player choices and that included some of the Bayern Boys themselves. This added more interest in the save for myself because completing with these lads was more interesting to me than going for a high score.

These were my Three Kings.

First up is former Vibe favourite James Ward-Prowse but as people in real life have come to appreciate him more for his work at Southampton the less he has been seen around Vibe. That’s perhaps not a surprise because for all his good attributes he hasn’t developed into a quick player and there are a lot better options in midfield these days on the game.

 

Next is a player who is coming to the end of his career and who by the end of the season his attributes were dropping alarmingly fast. I used Tadic with Ajax in my Last Hurrah save back in November and I wanted to show him some love of his own. Like JWP he isn’t blessed with an abundance of pace but he is technically good and had the right attributes to create goals.

 

My third wise man is possibly the most underrated footballer of the first two decades of the 21st century, he has a trophy cabinet the size of Luxembourg and is single handedly on a mission to prove that Germans can be funny.

It is the man, the myth, the legend Thomas Müller.

Those three will be looking to provide the presents for Jesus.

 

Rarely for me I didn’t do a great deal of transfer business and the in’s and out’s all fit on one screen. I brought in the versatile Konrad Laimer from Leipzig with Kingsley Coman going the other way as part of the deal, Gnabry went to Man City to sweeten the Jesus transfer and Southampton got Bouna Sarr along with 30mil for JWP.

 

How the Season Went

The only trophy that eluded me was the Champions League as we got a semi but couldn’t convert that into glory. The league campaign wasn’t as comprehensive as I would have liked either with a few too many draws as at times Jesus just couldn’t get into games.

 

The main aim of the challenge though was to get a minimum of 100pts from a combination of Jesus goals and Wise Men assists with a point awarded for each. I also had to make sure that all three wise men contributed at least 10 assists to the total.

Because of the minimum of 10 assists needed from each Wise Man I tried not to concentrate the assists too much on one player and instead spread them round. My hope was this would provide a certain amount of insurance if one player got injured as all three would be close to the minimum total needed quite quickly.

At around the half way stage of the season I had Müller on 10 with Tadic and JWP 1 away from the 10 needed to get the benchmark as well. This would have meant it would have needed pretty much a season ending injury to stop all three from getting the 10 assists needed for the benchmark.

 

That gave me a half season total score of 54pts with all three Wise Men having hit there 10 minimum assists benchmark. I could now focus on making sure that we made it to 100pts and got the badge.

Luckily there was very few dramas in the second half of the season and I hit the benchmark with some time to spare.

JWP had an injury for a couple of weeks and missed 8 games in the season, whilst Tadic missed 3, Jesus sat out 5 games and Müller the Machine only failed to play once all season.

 

Final Totals

Jesus - 53 Goals

Müller - 21 Assists

JWP - 20 Assists

Tadic - 16 Assists

Total Score - 110pts

That is enough to win my 4th badge and a respectable enough score for the leaderboard at a first attempt. My main concern going into this challenge was making sure all three Wise Men hit there benchmark and then whether Jesus could get the number of goals needed but both those things happened.

This might be a challenge I revisit as I have an idea of how I might go about the challenge a bit differently but for now I can add the badge to my collection.

Nice work there Foxy! I like your choice of players not being so obvious (though I went the more obvious route myself). Nice to see they all performed pretty well. I would never have thought of using JWP - although he's doing really well in real life like you say.

I hope you give it another try some time - there are so many possibile approaches with this one.

I'm on my 4th attempt right now (in a co-incidence I'm also using Bayern). I almost used Muller, but ended up giving him up to get KDB and I went with Sane and Coman - I actually chose Bayern because I wanted real wingers and didn't want to buy/sell many players (only made 3 signings).

He did ok but I think he would have done much better if Jesus was half a metre taller.

Badge 11 - Big Man Little Man

I seem to have missed out on the last 6 badges in this series but I decided I wanted to give my Big Man Little Man challenge a go and see if I could earn badge 11. I created this challenge for the 2021 Vibe World Cup and then with permission from @Rob made it a badge challenge as well.

All the details are here.

In short though you must sign either a striker to be your Big Man who has 14 or more aerial and a striker to be your Little Man who has less than 10 aerial and one of them must already be at the club. Then you try and get goals from the Little Man and assists from the Big Man with 2 points for each one and then they lose a point for every Little Man assist and Big Man goal.

The idea is to get goals from a player with low aerial as generally for the big goal totals you need some good ability from the striker.

To earn this badge I must score 121 points or more.

Player Choice

I had decided to go for Liverpool and Mo Salah as there are very few Little Men that are better in world football at the moment.

 

My Big Man was a less obvious pick because he is well past his best and is found as a free transfer in the spring update. The man charged with getting assists is Diego Costa and I’m hoping he isn’t injury prone. The scout report was positive and I think he can create some havoc and space for Salah to get a few goals.

 

As per the challenge rules I only brought in one player and that was my Big Man.

 

 

Half Way Point

My fears about Diego Costa being a bit injury prone have been proved to be correct to an extent. He isn’t too bad and has so far been very robust but he has had some niggles that mean out of 31 games that I have played so far he has missed 6 of them. Salah is obviously more robust as we know from real life but he did miss three games with a 10 day injury.

Current Score 

Salah - 39 goals x 2 - 3 assists = 75pts

Costa - 17 assists x 2 - 7 = 27pts

Total so far - 102pts

 

Not a bad start and I only need 20 more points to have won the badge. I would have liked Costa to have scored slightly less goals but he is a good striker and he will get the odd chance to score and take it. Salah is being nice and selfish though which I like.

 

End of the Season

The season was a success especially as I couldn’t change the squad which was why I want Liverpool as obviously they are a well balanced team. We won the league by miles and added the FA Cup and Community Shield. We did lose the League Cup final to (obviously) Man City and Barca did us in the Champions League semi finals.

Not much to see from the manager profile apart from it confirms what I showed above that I didn’t make any transfers in apart from Costa and that I didn’t holiday any games.

Final Score

With such a good start the target of 122 was never going to be a problem unless I had some major bad luck with injuries. Costa did miss a fair few games as we played 62 matches in total and he only managed to play in 49 of them thanks to little injuries or just not being fit enough to play. It didn’t effect his performance too much though as he racked up 31 assists and I kept him from scoring too many as well.

Salah continued to play most games but then missed a couple towards the end of the season when I had Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday matches in two of the  final weeks of the season. His goal rate slowed a bit as well as he looked to be on for late 70’s or even 80 goals but finished on 67 and then 7 assists.
