TIGERS ROAR EPISODE 1 - SETTLING IN

So, welcome to Gloucester!

(And really welcome back to FMMVibe!)

Having a look at the squad and the dynamics on day 1 and.....

.... I think I'll be wielding the axe a fair bit. It's an aging squad with uneven talent, and I've communicated to the board that I aim to make the playoffs. Bernard Mensah and Akwasi Asante not being confident in me means they're on an express packet out of here.

I've also had a look at the early squad dynamic and it doesn't look desirable - especially with us sliding down the table the past 4 seasons I'm wanting to flush the culture out.

FIXTURES

I've arranged a good ton of games between the start of preseason and our long Conference North opener against Guiseley in order to bed the rebuilt squad.

I used to watch Gloucester back in the late 80s/early 90s. And an old schoolmate used to play for them too. I approve of this career!

Is the renovated stadium in the db?

Not yet mate - it *does* say Meadow Park(so at least they're back in the town) though I have no idea if it's the rebuilt ground

Episode 2 - Is this Really a Preseason?

Welcome to the first preseason here in Gloucester!We've been remodelling the squad, and we hope you'll join us in pushing the squad on this year! Here's what happened in the preseason.

Transfer Round-up Presented by Ecclesiatical Insurance

- It's a massive churn in the squad, with 10 players going out and 20 coming in, 18 permanently. Bernard Mensah and Akwasi Asante going out stabilized the locker room after incessant chirping about how they didn't like the new manager, while Ciaren Jones was a regrettable sale; we tried to keep him on board, but with his deal running down and a refusal to discuss terms we reluctantly sold him on, becoming the club's first six-figure fee.

The new signings were bannered by former Crewe and Bolton forward Max Clayton and Peterborough winger Isaac Buckley-Ricketts, and aimed to fill the squad out.

Preseason Roundup Presented by Ginsters

- Seeing as our season only started in October, we organized a grand total of 10 friendlies to keep our fitness up as we prepare for a LONG season.

A 6-2-2 record sees us generate some momentum and bed in the new squad, with a notable performance in defeat against Chesterfield.

Episode 3 - Oktoberfest?

Welcome to the October recap of Gloucester City action here on Tigers Roar!After a protracted offseason, we're proud to say that the National League North is back! We've got a bumper month to talk about, so grab your beverage of choice and a pasty, sit back and roar along!

Opening Day vs Guiseley

- An early debut goal from Brandon Taverner set the tempo of the game, driving Guiseley out of their wish to control the ball and pushed them to attack, but clinical conversion from your Tigers see them take the 3 points from Yorkshire!

Home opener vs Darlington

- Our first game at the rebuilt Meadow Park saw us race to an early lead from a swashbuckling run by Isaac Buckley-Ricketts, but a brace from ex-Newcastle trainee Luke Charman and a Will Hatfield header saw the Quakers spoil the homecoming party.

Bounceback against York?

- No bounceback here as we visit the Minstermen, being utterly strangled as we lose by 3 clear goals.

Early must-win claxons!

- With alarm bells ringing as your Tigers were closer to the drop zone than the playoff places, we hosted a Blyth Spartans side in form, and battled back to a much-needed win; Max Clayton's laser off the bench the difference as we won our second game in four.

- October ended with a drab draw at a Leamington side that would have felt aggrieved to drop the 2 points against us.

- After five matches, we're 10th and only out of the playoff places on goal difference; being thumped by York and Darlo aren't helping our case.

Episode 4 - Rounding into Form?

Welcome back to Tigers Roar!

Now that the Conference North season is in full swing, we're looking up at a good run of games - can we keep it going?

Get the easel, we're going drawing

- Definitely one of those games where it was a point gained instead of two dropped; even if Harriers only equalized late, they had control of the game and we were lucky not to lose.

Bounce-back!

- NOW that's the stuff - a big win against a high-flying Heed gets us back on the bounce after that sputtering draw.

Back to Earth via Southport

- We seem to have used up all our goals against Gateshead, as we pick up a third draw in four.

Escape from Edgar Street

- We bounce back up again after a solid win in Hereford against a scrappy Bulls side.

Nosing the Nash

- We end November league play with a battling win in Greater Manchester against a game Curzon Ashton side that got shook with Max Harrop's injury.

- We may not have been beaten in the month, but we may rue those 2 draws as we get stuck in among the playoff-chasers.

Episode 5 - The Gloucester Holiday Spectacular

A happy holiday to one and all and welcome back to Tigers Roar!We certainly hope you've had a good tuck into the festive feasts, because your Tigers certainly had a festive December in the Conference North! Let's take a look!

Besting the Bucks

- We ring December in with a come-from-behind win over a game AFC Telford side, the boys showing their battling qualities after an early Chris O'Grady injury to extend our brewing unbeaten run in the league to seven.

Pilgrim's Progress

- We return home and hand Boston United a right dominant victory to keep it going.

Nail-biting Nine

- Nine on the spin in nail-rending circumstances as a Regan Booty masterpiece free kick sees us escape from a game Alfreton were threatening to turn over and beat us in.

Boxing Day Miracle

- Our stocking didn't have coal, but it felt just as disappointing despite our 10th game unbeaten, as Chorley controlled the game and a Max Clayton wonderstrike spelled the difference in Yorkshire.

Bounceback!

- The second half of our year-ending Yorkshire double-header see us take our chances well and smash & grab our way to a win against a game Bradford Park Avenue side.

- Eleven games unbeaten to close 2020 see us edge into the top spot in the league.

Episode 6 - New Year's Crash?

Welcome one and all to Tigers Roar, and we wish you a happy new year!2021 enters with Gloucester on top of the Conference North and on a wave of momentum, but in the toughest division of non-league football, it means nothing if you can't make it to the National. Will we be cracking on? Let's find out!

Damp squib?

- The lads must have had a lie-in on New Year's Day, as we usher in 2021 with a flat performance and blow a lead to draw with a Brackley side floating in midtable.

Party Pooper

- The flat turn of the year continues against Chester, as we net both goals in this draw but waste every other opportunity to add on.

Bouncing Back

- We then pick up our first win of 2021 in Yorkshire as we roll over the Celt Army to get back on track.

Bouncing the Coasters

- Well well well, what a way to show up from the squad, as they maul a Fylde side who were previously nipping on their heels in the title picture.

Get Braked!

- Talk about extremes - a late flurry of goals from our strike pair spares our hackles in a game that we should have lost against a game Spennymoor side.

- We may have beaten Fylde smartly but blowing that Spennymoor game means we still cannot totally separate from the rest of the division!

Episode 7 - THE GAUNTLET

They say February is a month for love - but for Gloucester City, that love is getting put under a severe test, as we faced several rivals and runners for the Conference North title this month. Will it be heartbreak or triumph for us?

Lions vs Tigers OH MY!

- February opens with a great gift from young striker Oliver Sanderson; the Sheffield United academy product puts the Lions to the Blade with a well-taken hat-trick.

Kettering Kaos!

- It may have been narrow on the scoreboard, but a smash-and-grab win against Kettering powered by a cagey defense bailed out a wasteful frontline.

Titanic Top-Table Tiff!

- Despite the title hyping it up so, it wasn't titanic insomuch as it was fortuitous; Darlington would have deserved the win if not for losing their head late, and we lucked into the point that creates separation with the Quakers.

You Earned that Kit-Kat

- A Max Clayton header ends up being the difference in this defensive effort by the whole team.

Welp

- It's a goal-less draw with no real scoring opportunities, what else can I say?
