Career Chris' 1KC V2 - Kaio Jorge Season 4

Hi there. Some of you may have seen my other 1KC thread. Unfortunately I have had to restart the attempt after accidentally leaving the editor enabled on my save after using it on another. As I said on there though, I'm hoping it will be a blessing in disguise as I settled on a completely different tactic for my 3rd season which saw a sharp increase in goals. This could well have been due to the squad and our main man maturing, so we will see how we get on. 

Anyway, club and player aren't changing so again I will be managing Ajax. This is what our boy looks like on this fresh save:

Season One

Transfers In

I decided to bring in Dilrosun again as he is fairly cheap and did fairly well for us before. Pavon was off the table this time around as he didn't want to retrain to a WM role in our last save, so I splashed out on Buendia instead. Never used this guy before and he is more of an advanced playmaker than a winger, but he still looked pretty solid and had the stats I would normally look for in a winger (I would normally go for wingers with hugs sideline or runs down wing traits). Everything else was just bolstering the squad and providing us with some much needed depth. 

Transfers Out

Not much to say here. None of the players I sold fit into our tactic, or I already had quality in their positions. 

Team Results

I was unsure how the first season would pan out as our squad is very young and using a fairly attacking tactic with 3 atb. I was actually very pleased with the results, other than our performance in the CL. We were absolutely destroyed by Liverpool in the Group Stages, conceding 11 goals to them alone whilst only scoring 2; which is crazy as in those 2 games we conceded 25% of the goals we conceded all season! We did okay against the other teams but a draw to OL meant that we just missed out on the 2nd spot. We were also shafted for the Euro Cup afterwards being drawn against PSG. We were all over them but still couldn't come away with a win. 

Anyway, a GPG of almost 2.5 in the first season is good enough for me at this point. Let's see how our main man got on... 

Kaio Jorge

Some good growth this year. Annoyingly, his aerial increase only happened right at the end of the season. Happy with his progress overall. 

Very happy with this first season. Again he spent a long spell away on U21 duty. Hoping this won't happen again next season, but I can't see myself getting the Brazil job early this time round as they have been performing extremely well. 

Here's how the rest of the team performed:

Buendia proved a great choice, providing 21 assists with his pinpoint crossing and corners. His dribbling is also incredible to watch in game. He gets a thumbs up from me. 

Tadic annoyed me by stealing so many goals this season and due to his age also I'll probably start to give Antony more game time next season. His teamwork is quite low though so he might not work out to well either... We shall see.

Great first season mate and he’s look pretty good already! Dilrosun was my go too winger last year with Sebastian Villa, both’s crossing go so good!

Thanks mate. I've never heard of Villa before but just looked him up in my game and he looks great tbf. Great stats and traits for any winger. Can't see Buendia losing that spot though. I was quite surprised he out did Dilrosun really. I'll shortlist Villa for now though as I'm struggling to find a backup and Promes wants to move on! 

Messed up my new season already btw. Either the game bugged, or I clicked confirm accidentally on a transfer for Onana for a measly 45m 😵 Going to struggle to replace him now for that kind of money.

Season Two

At the beginning of the season I was keeping a sharp eye on Brazils performance in the World Cup Quals. I have no idea how their manager kept his job after failing to qualify, and with some pretty big beatings 😂

Transfers In

Bought in some young blood that look full of potential. A bit risky considering the price, and the fact that I've not used them before. Transfer market is still looking pretty empty at this stage though with not many good players interested in joining the club. Hopefully a good run in the CL can change that. Couldn't resist Villa after @RichD pointed him out to provide a little depth for when Buendia needed a breather. 

Transfers Out

An accident/bug meant we lost Onana for just 45m. We got 100m+ for him last time around. Tadic stayed until January. 

Team Results

I would say we done fairly well. Really felt hard done by in the CL though (see screenshot below) although we did have some really close games before the semi's, seeing off the likes of Bayern and Inter, and even smashing Tottenham 5-0 in the Group Stages. Dutch Cup resultbwas also an unlucky loss in a game we completely dominated. Hopefully reaching the semi's will provide us with some better players on the transfer market though. 

Kaio Jorge

Not much improvement in his stats to be honest. Would have hoped for higher aerial by now, although on my last attempt at this 1KC I think it was S3 when he jumped to 18.

Managed to play a few more games this season, although still missing a fair few due to becoming "jaded". Happy with this to be fair, although I thought he may have gotten more. Ratio practically the same, so let's hope he can start banging them in more consistently next season. The latter part of this season was dire for him really, after maintain a 2GPG for the best part of the first half of the season. 

Pretty gutted that these appeared too during the season. Still scoring most of his penalties for now but slacking on the free kicks.

Just got rid of Antony in a part/ex before I remembered to take the above screenshots. Great player coming in to replace him though, and I already know he's much less greedy. Antony scored a whopping 15 goals playing at AM. Good riddance I say, how dare he...

Great season mate and a nice 50 goals for him, which is great! Villa will hopefully get him plenty of assists when needed. Was going to ask do you keep him on all game? If you do, my biggest tip is, take him off when he gets to about 80% and so he can play all games 😁

Thanks mate. I normally take him off at about 75-80%. Sometimes won't play him if it says "slightly tired" though, which I'm not sure is a good idea or not tbh. Villa was a solid sub tbh. He really didn't start that many games at all, although Buendia might be spending a little more time at AM next season so he should get more of a chance to show off

Season Three

By this time last time around Kaio banged in 80+ goals, although I had already scored the Brazil job by then. I'd have been happy with 60-70 with that considered, so let's see how it went. 

Transfers In

Bought both Berge and Oyarzabal as they proved quality on our last save. Well, that and the fact that our interested players list is still pretty terrible. They did leave us skint though, and I had to bring in a few loans to provide our main men some cover. 

Transfers Out

Team Results

Won everything unbeaten bar the CL again. This time we were decimated 6-1 on aggregate to Man City in the quarters. Again we were dealt a hard group but managed some half decent results to qualify, and also beat Chelsea 3-1 in the first knockout round. We need to do better in the CL soon else I fear we won't ever have the budget to further strengthen the squad. 

Kaio Jorge

I don't know what to say about this really. Kaio had a terrible season. He had a few minor injuries that seemed to just halt his progression, and also couldn't finish his dinner. He was still getting the opportunities though. Esposito showed him right up by bagging 28 goals mainly as a sub mid 2nd half. 

In Kaio's defense, for the middle part of the season I made the mistake of tinkering my tactic after he had a dry spell. This went on for a while until I eventually reverted to the original tactic and he started scoring again more consistently. Need to try and stop myself doing this again next season else this challenge may well be over before it starts...

Very frustrating when a season like this happens and like you I am always tinkering but it makes things worse usually! Hopefully business picks up next season 😁

Shame, but it's still a decent season.

Hopefully it's just a blip. Have you got an older "pro" mentoring him to improve his converting chances to goals?

I've noticed that the mentoring seems to really make a difference to the stats that would be harder to improve via the normal training methods.

Afraid not. I've been checking often, but there's no good matches for him. Paired him up with Blind after assistant suggested it and it gave an increase to his leadership mainly. 

Don't want to jynx it but this new season is looking much better for now. I'm trying my best not to touch the tactics 😂 I'm only going to make changes if I'm losing at half time, or losing/drawing in the 70th minute

Nice. It might be worth getting an old pro to rot in the reserves to mentor him, not sure if it would work, but it might do.

The problem is picking the correct old pro as it's not like you get to pick what they're going to improve, most of mine seem to be leadership, I've had a few team ethic's too.

Mini update. Currently in January of the 4th season. Don't want to spoil it but Kaio had an absolute cracking first half. Team was averaging 3+ goals per game, and destroying a lot of teams. We even had a run of 12 games without conceding which is incredible considering the tactic. However, like clockwork, mid December came and all of a sudden for the past 7-8 games my team is struggling to find the net. I haven't noticed anything change with the AI. They still play mainly on defensive/contain, narrow and slow. Anyway, I'm resisting the urge to start tinkering away and remain hopeful that this is just a short spell. Stay tuned!

Season 4

Transfers In

Unai bought in as nowhere else was really able to be strengthened with the budget/players available. 

Pretty sure Saebra is a Ronaldo regen. Seems a lot of top flight clubs transfer list fresh wonder kids for bargain prices in this FM version. 

Transfers Out

Team Results

Done in the quarters by Man Utd, even though we were the better team. Seems like a running theme in this career. Don't think my tactic is cut out for the bigger teams at times. 

Kaio Jorge

We started off the season very well, as mentioned above. Kaio had scored around 41 goals after just 20 games. But as usual the 2nd half of the season was trash. The team kept things going for the most part but Kaio was just failing to bag goals anymore. 

There were a few games left of the season after this but he didn't fair much better. I'm unsure as to the problem here in all honesty and I'm quickly losing patience with this career. I think knowing he bagged 80+ goals by S3 in our previous career makes this even more frustrating.

For now I'm going to keep this save on the back burner. I'm itching to get testing different tactics for badges, and this career is causing me to burn out 🤣

Yep. Most frustrating thing is nothing seemed to have changed and so I don't know what to do about it. Players were still happy, squad was the same with green links, similar opponents. Part of me believes that it might be Kaio, or the fact he has the "tends to struggle in big matches" trait, but who knows.... Thats probably me making excuses for a sub par tactic 😂
