Going into the playoffs had certainly kept it interesting.

It definitely all or nothing now but I think we have to be strong favourites to go up after the season we had and our overall form since February.

Season 2 - The Playoffs

It all comes down to this. We are potentially 3 games away from the Premier League or the save ending in a very unsatisfactory (or very satisfactory depending on your view point) way.

We need to beat West Ham over two legs in the semi final to then take on either Barnsley or Blackburn in the final winner takes all game.

1st Leg vs West Ham Away

In the league we got FMMed - with a score of 9 if I was allowed to enter it in @Rob leaderboard - away at West Ham but in what was a tighter match this time we came out with a valuable win.

I stuck with CumDog and Vale up front despite taking Haller in the league match a few weeks before and they again did the business. Shelvey gave West Ham a chance in the 2nd leg with a late goal before we survived a scare when Antonio had a goal disallowed late on.

This meant it was advantage me going into the 2nd leg and to emphasise that I was able to take one of there bigger threats with Fornals joining me.

2nd Leg vs West Ham @ Home

The tie looked all but over when Benrahma scored early but that woke the Hammers up and Antonio got them back in the tie 6 minutes later. This was a fine performance by them as they created 3 CCC’s and were left ruing those missed chances as we held out to book a spot at Wembley.

This meant a player swap and I lost Benrahma for the final as he moved on to West Ham. In turn I took Xande who looks ok but I doubt he will play in the final.

This set up a final against Barnsley for the right to play Premier League football next season and the save to continue.

It did not start well as we went in at half time 2-0 down!

We are a free scoring team though and I wasn’t giving up hope that we could get back into this as it wasn’t the first time this season we had been in this position.


 

It was one of the heroes of this save Daniel Agyei who killed the save of though 5 minutes after the restart. Haller came on and got a goal but it was too little too late and promotion would not be happening.

Haller was obviously one of the players to go as the goalscorer.

After Agyei scoring in the final there was one more insult to injury though as my star man of this season Jack Vale was taken as well due to his 8 AvR. The guy was a monster this season with 27 goals in 27 games despite playing in a front 4 and formed good partnerships with the likes of Agyei and CumDog along the way.

One day I will learn to love again but for now this hurts 💔

That brings the save to an end then. I don’t have the motivation to play another year of the Championship and in a way this seems like a proper conclusion as opposed to the save just drifting away due to me losing interest after a season or so in either the Championship or the Premier League.

Unlike massages not all saves need to have a happy ending and it’s been a fun ride whilst it lasted.

I’m putting some toads into some holes tonight so it won’t be until at least tomorrow. I haven’t yet looked how many players I actually won over the two seasons but it must be well over a 100.

Final Round Up

It’s time to bring this career to an end with a final round up of all the players I took. In the 2nd season I started releasing players instead of keeping them if they were never likely to play so the players in screenshots don’t tell the full story in season 2.

Over the two seasons I had a goal difference of +153 which by my reckoning means that I stole 153 players in total from wins over the season. Then with draws meaning I need to swap a player for another player I can add 18 onto the total meaning I won....

171 players in total over two seasons.

 

This is every player who joined my club over the two seasons although ther are many more that were released.

Here is the team and player records from the two seasons. 

 

Player of the Career

This was between two players Will Grigg who as you see above did very well in season 1 with 10 MotM performances, 11 assists and 23 goals or Jack Vale who came in Season 1 but didn’t get a chance till later into Season 2 and then smashed in 27 goals in 27 games playing as part of a front 4.

It was Jack Vale who took the award for me though as when I got him from Blackburn after our cup game I was very underwhelmed and he was lucky to stay in the squad based on these attributes but he was young so I kept him in.

 

Over time I kept him because I would lose TM’s quite easily and he was a useful player to keep in the 40 man squad I had built up. He got a chance through me resting some players in a cup game in season 2 and from there he never looked back and made himself undroppable. In the end he couldn’t help us be promoted and my final act of this save was to transfer him to Barnsley but he remains a hero nonetheless.

Absolutely wonderful career and one Id like to nominate for the end of season awards (we need to save noms through the year IMO as early ones often get overlooked).
