Career Rob tries Ronny’s Year Badge - The End

I’m not going to lie - I’ve run out of digits on my fingers and feet to count the amount of times I’ve started this challenge and then quit it. So I am going to force myself to complete this, even if I fail, by posting the first of three updates. The second update will be at the end of season one and the third will be at the end of the full year. 

The challenge is here in case anyone wants refreshing:

Anyway, I’ve gotten to January 1st. The tactic is working okay in that we are dominating teams...

...and Ronaldo has scored a lot already (that don’t count towards the challenge score)...

...and still looks decent...

...but I know that from previous attempts his attributes decline in January (unlike others, who seem to have magical stamina with him). I expect that his goal rate so far will decline, which makes this challenge horrible, stressful, and just plain yucky.

I had the same problem with the Kane & Son badge. Lost count of how many times I restarted that. I was lucky enough to nail this one on the first attempt. Its stressful but I'm sure you'll get there, man. Good luck. 👍

Half-way through Update

Well, I say ‘half-way’... but it’s not really. It’s the end of season one and the post-Xmas part of season one is stacked with games due to the Covid delay. This skewers how well you’ve done to make you look better than you really did. But there we go.

Transfers

We did a fair bit. Hazard only left to raise funds. I hate Madrid’s squad. Bayern are by a mile my favourite big team squad.

Team Performance

We did as well as you’d expect with a big team and big team funding.

Ronaldo So Far

He had 37 so far with season and ended with 85. That gives us 48 so far.

30 needed in the first half of season two to hit the hardest Badge benchmark so far, with a player who is declining and whose goals fell away as season one was coming to an end. Yuck!

Awesome start there, I’m sure you can do it! Also the signings are class, I haven’t been able to sign Trent in any career yet and everyone else seems to get him, they always want 200m in mine 😂

Thanks. Net spend of 170m too. Getting Hazard out for 140m essentially buys Sandro and Goretzka. I know what I’d rather have in this challenge.

My god, those transfers! I am always having a bad time moving players and buying players, but you are doing just fine! Really curious to see how this one ends!

The End

Ronaldo needed 78 across the calendar year to get the benchmark and badge. He had 48 so far, which means he needed 30 across 24/25 games. Should be doable, right?

Well, let’s start with transfers. I strengthened the squad in areas that needed sorting. Benzema and Bale had both massively regressed at this point and I couldn’t sell them, which was annoying as they were on big wages.

Anyway, Ronaldo looked like this at the end of the challenge:

Decent, but no pace anymore. I played him as a trequartista in my attempt and, for me, pace is important there. 

We went in to our final game before the end of the calendar year on 27 goals. He needed 30 remember. The final game was against Sevilla at home - a team that no matter who I play as always seem to give me problems. Could the Portuguese God roll back the years and bang in a hat-trick for me?

No. Two goals and a missed penalty. 29 goals for the season. 77 in total across the calendar year. I missed the Badge by one goal. ONE MISERLY GOAL! Early candidate for fail of the year? I reckon so.
