Season 2

With a decent first season behind us, we head into season 2 hoping for a stronger performance. And we got it! But first...

 

How Many 1KCs?

I originally said that while my target is 3x1KC (Esposito, Pellegri and Badji), I was hoping to get a 4th 1KC for Kaio Jorge. However, it's time to get real and drop that idea.

Last season I rotated the 4 lads equally. Because they tired out more quickly, that didn't have a huge effect on playing time of the main lads, as they need the time off anyway.

This season, the main lads were able to spend more time on the park, meaning I had a clear choice: maximise the chance of 3x1KC at the expense of the 4th one, or the other way around. The choice was easy.

Moving forward, I'll play KJ when I can, but not at the expense of the main lads and I won't bother reporting on him here.

 

Transfers

We further shaped the squad:

Highlights:

• We sold players nearing 30 such as Wilshere, Halstenberg, Strinic and Musa, even though they'd been important players for us, in order to give us space and budget to chase younger alternatives.

• We sold Jedvaj when a good offer came in even though he was a starter, because we had decent alternatives and the man was bringing the squad morale down (in dynamics).

• Bakambu left on a free as we didn't have enough money left in season 1 to renew his £375K contract and Guangzhou swooped in and agreed a Bosman for him.

• We bought a bunch of younger players to become first team members, such as Daniel James, Wijndal, Tomori, Laimer, Skov.

• We bought a few expensive-ish youngsters, who based on price and wage, are likely to be decent regens. Some probably won't fly, but if a couple come through they will rule this league.

 

Results

We won everything domestically and got 156 goals in the league, but couldn't quite get past Real Madrid in the Quarter Final of the Club World Championship (although we beat Atletico to get out of the group).

We hopeless outmatch all other teams in China and the region, so we score a ridiculous amount of goals. Here are all the screenshots:

Injuries

After last year's load of injuries, we had a much better year, with only Badji out (3 weeks):

KJ was out for a month, but I guess I don't need to include that anymore!

Poor old Carrillo had four separate injuries, but each time came back and gave his all, getting a couple of those "setting a wonderful example" or "rolling back the years" upgrades. Seriously, this guy is a must-sign player.

 

The Lads

Looking pretty wonderful:

In other news, it turns out that Pellegri is one of the few players in the game who takes discipline well:

I had to give the other two new contracts after learning the hard way that they weren't.

All up, we have 524 goals in two season at an average of just over 5 GPG:

A great season all round and if we can improve slightly on that, we may just be able to pull this off... At this point, my only worry is Badji falling slightly behind, but we have plenty of time remaining to correct that by giving him penalties etc.

Yeah, the mix of very weak league with very big budgets is a recipe for some very unrealistic results. What they really need to do is implement the foreign players limit - if they did that it would fascinating! 3 great players, plus a group of quite average players... But in the absence of that, it can be used/abused to totally warp reality...

Yeah, it's crazy the people you can sign. I've missed quite a few because of work permits, but no complaints at all... This squad could probably win the EPL. 

I'm thinking this will end up with 5K team goals... But 6? Or individual? Not from me.

Yeah, I get that it's complicated and FMM is supposed to be simple, but it really really needs to be there to keep things realistic.

The salary cap would be important as well, putting a limit of 190k per week on foreigners. I think this is done in MLS, not sure why they overly simplify other leagues.

Yeah, the full salary cap rules for China might be a bit complicated (a foreign player cap, a local player cap, and a team total cap), but they need to do something. Actually they really should follow the real rules (and for competition structure and domestic player quotas etc), anything less makes things unrealistic...

Thanks, sure is crazy. Great fun to play as we've discussed before, but slow going because there are so many chances for it to process (and because I have to keep posting on the record store thread 😄).
