Season 3

We saw a big jump for the lads in season 2, but what does season 3 hold in store for them? Can they continue to increase the number of goals scored?

 

Transfers

Not many transfers this season, as we have a pretty solid team:

Highlights:

• We sold Skov when a good offer came in for him. He was one of our starting LWs, but his ratings had dropped compared to the previous season (from 8+ to low 7s) and we had some other choices at that position.

• One of the afore-mentioned other choices was new signing Escalante, a youngster who looks impressive. He was transfer listed at a top club, which means he's probably a decent regen (I'm lining up a few more for next season).

• We also picked up Villar on a free half way through the season - he seems an excellent player, but we don't really need him and we're starting to get my usual player traffic jam.

 

Results

We won everything again this year and scored 159 goals in the league (+3 on last year):

Pellegri had a 2 week injury in January and missed the first couple of games, then Esposito was out for a month after an injury in May:

Awards

Now, I don't normally bother with awards, but I was quite surprised with this one:

The 3 lads came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the World Footballer of the Year Award. I wasn't expecting them to win it at all given they are playing in China.

So, Pellegri is on track for 1K, but the others are slightly worrying. Badji didn't really kick on at all. And Esposito went backwards - sure he had the injury, but his ratio went back to 1 GPG (and that's with him taking penalties).

I not worried yet. There is plenty of time to go and the lads will get more consistent and play longer etc, but i would like at least a small step up next year.

Thanks mate. It's down to 2 things (it seems):

• These players are good. I don't know their PA for this save, but I know roughly what it will be based on the their base/default value. And their starting CA isn't that high, so they will each get somewhere between 8 and 12 training updates - and if you get that many updates, you can make them look very good. This is why I won't submit these scores for the 1KC leaderboard - I know too much about the database whenit comes to picking players for long term saves like this (though I guess I could have just picked them off the wonderkid list).
   
• I use a special rotation training system: If you set Target Attribute to Aerial and leave it there, you will get an update every so often, but sometimes it won't move at all (I guess because increasing it every time would make it grow faster than it should). So, I set it to Aerial, get the update, change it Pace, get an update there, change it Movement, etc. By the time you get back to Aerial, it's ready to increase again. It doesn't always give you the update to the target attribute, but it seems (to me at least) that you get it more often than if you leave it on a single attribute. Although I could be imagining it I guess...

I would have led with top staff (which I do have) and top facilities - but I can't get the final facility update from this board, so maybe that doesn't have as much effect as I though? Though I could have sworn it did.

Thanks mate - let me know how you go with it, because I've mostly convinced myself that it works, but can't really tell if I'm actually right about that! 😄

I also have another (maybe crazy) theory that if strikers are scoring a lot (especially in the game they get the update) then their update is bigger. But you can't really control that and it could totally be my imagination so, probably useless!

I never made rotation on target attribute like that but I will try it. Usually if I know I will have few seasons with that team I go first with stamina until they get to 14-15 and then change it to the desired atribute and leave it there for at least one season.

Let me know how it goes, so I can see if I'm crazy or not. I used to leave it on Aerial for strikers and Pace for most other players for a long time, then fill in the gaps (unless they had a problem like really low Stamina), but a couple of years ago and I went rotation, and convinced myself it works.

Awesome post scratch and I will defo try this at some point, I did leave mine on aerial mostly with Luzzi and probably didn’t work out as great. Thanks mate, appreciate the in depth post 😁

Usually the way I do it works very good and @RichD and @broodje kip can confirm that I have some cool developed players. I will try your way and compare it to see how it goes

Feeling the pressure over the training system now! I don't want to overplay it. Part A above is probably more important, ie I'm using it with players with lots of updates. I still get updates every so often where the player gets +1 for Tackling and that's it, but then there is another update a few month later to keep things moving. 

So it might not be a magic solution on it own. I am really curious to see what happens for you all if/when you use it though!

Season 4

We're doing great as a team, but need the lads to increase their numbers, or this is going to be a long long save...

Highlights:

• Dembele had been great off the bench, but with KJ, Suarez, Serrano and a regen on the bench with him, it was getting a bit crowded. So when an offer came in for him, we took it.

• We also shipped out Vogt, who had been one of the starting CDs in season 1 and 2, but became a backup once we signed Tomori (a season or two back).

• The biggest departure: Carrillo for free. His work was done! He was still a decent backup, but deteriorating and it was time to say goodbye (until my next career).

• Coming in: some youngsters with a good base, a gap between potential and current ability in the scout report, who are transfer listed and at a top club. Doesn't matter if they aren't top regens, if they get a reasonable amount of development on top of the base, they will surpass the current group of players.

 

The ITN Job

As I've said before, I don't really want the ITN job, but it became free after the Euros. Pellegri had carried Italy to the Final, but they lost there to Germany. I would have thought that would have been enough for the Italian FA, but apparently not! So I applied for the job - only to be turned down in favour of Ivan Piazza.

When I checked my ranking, it showed as Unranked. A month or two later we won the league again and I was back to 3rd best in the world.

Nice one FMM... Still, it was probably doing me a favour.

We won everything again this year and scored 160 goals in the league (+1 on last year, we're remarkably consistent):

Badji got off injury free last year, but paid for it this year with two separate 3 week injuries, while Pellegri was out for a week:

We are now up to 1084 goals in 4 seasons at an average of 5.26 goals per game:

If I submitted that to the The Managers 1000 Goal Challenge I'd be clear top, but I'm not submitting anything for this save, beyond the record store ones. It's just too easy here in China.

Pellegri looking great with his ratio at about 1.5 and holding steady, Esposito back on track after a poor season last year, and Badji having a better year than last, despite losing 6 weeks to injury.

That said, the numbers are borderline, especially for Badji. He needs to ramp it up or he's going to need another 17 seasons to finish this!

Thanks mate, yeah, I will switch him onto pens before too long I think. But really, if I could get up to about 200 goals per year between the 3 of them, I'd be much happier - still be a long save, but more likely of completing it than with these numbers.

Thanks - yeah, I was a bit put out I didn't get it even though I didn't really want it before I applied. Don't they know who I am?!! I haven't had a problem in previous years, but this was the first time I tried it in FMM21. Now I don't know if it's harder or just a blip that I wasn't ranked at the time...

Great going. Weird seeing Badji with 14 aerial as he always has 16+ whenever I’ve seen him. 

I guess the challenge now is to keep them happy, at the club, and then decide upon what point to focus on maybe two of them and not three? Or maybe one?

I was going to say that maybe a reshuffle of position to get him bumped up but you don't need Esposito or Pellegri's numbers to drop.

Are you concerned about keeping them in China? I know Rich is worried about that and as I embark on my own Chinese 1kc I just thought I'd ask.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of screenshots of him with higher Aerial, but I couldn't get him any higher than that (yet!). I'm generally pretty good at the Aerial training too. Obviously not perfect though! 😄 It's worth noting he didn't mentor with Carrillo (as the other two got the two mentoring spots, so I could have got it higher if I'd gone that path...

Keeping them happy is a challenge here in China. So far they are all signing a new contract every year. I'm accepting a lot of offers for them now (but saying No later). Esposito even said "No, I couldn't sign for Liverpool, I'd miss Beijing too much"! Although he accepted an offer from Man Utd the following week. 

But this is all of them or bust... No refocusing on just 2, no moving clubs, etc. Decent chance of a bust, but still fairly confident.

Season 5

It's been a while. I've been off doing some badges and my Newcastle My Way TT, but I felt like if was time to come back to this one for a season or two.

I feel like I've learned quite a bit since I was last here (like falling back to Balanced, High Press, Run With Ball when the TT Blaster isn't working that well), so I'm keen to see if I can get even more goals out of this lot.

 

Transfers

With some good youngsters coming through, it was time to sell some of the fringe/older players. The biggest name to go was Pavon, who had been one of our top assist providers. I would have been happy to have kept him, but he'd had been caught up by the kids. I also tried to sell Amiri, but he rejected the move, didn't play, now hates my guts. There will be more of this in future.

Coming in were a variety of good young players - some of them will bomb out, but 2 or 3 of them will go on to be great.

 

Results

We won everything again this year and scored 179 goals in the league (+19 on my best, only one short of 6 goals per game, so maybe I have learned a few things). The big news though is that we won the Club World Championship, beating Bayern 3-2 in the Final, after beating Real Madrid 5-4 in the Semi.

Injuries

A good season. Both Pellegri and Esposito had in game injuries (no news event afterwards), while Badji was out for a month but it was near the end of the season so he only missed 4 games.

So that's a pretty good season. If I can go for 10 season with them getting at least 60 each, then I'll be within striking distance of the finish. That said, I need to find a way to stop Badji falling behind - unlike a TT, I need all three to reach 1K.

Badji is only 34 goals off Esposito. I think you should cut him some slack. 🤣 Considering how phenomenal Esposito is, I'd be pleased, if anything. 

Your new tricks seem to have made an impact, which is handy going forward. If there's any danger of a slight stall then at least there's a plan B. 

You look on course at the moment. Avoiding major injuries is a must, as always but I have every faith in this being successful. Keep it up, sir. 👍
