Career Geordiekrispy's Badge-o-rama - #4 - Done

So we're up to Badge 4 in the Badges of Honour series, with Three Wise Men

Honestly Man City have got a pretty strong squad and I don't know the "top" players being more a LLM myself. So I essentially got very few transfers in:

And you can probably tell who one of my chosen three is from that, so here's all three of the so called wise men:

De Bruyne:

I couldn't see past him as my AMC, he's just too good and already at the club.

Son:

After his exploits in the first badge he was top of my shopping list.

 

Sterling:

It was a tough decision who I should choose between Sterling and Silva, I'm going for "youth" and a little bit more pace, hopefully he can bring his crossing up a bit.

 

You all know the main man, I'm hoping I can bring up his Aerial so he can get on the crosses and corners and his shooting should hopefully improve too as it's lower than I expected.

Having just beaten Newcastle 6-0 in the league, I'm wondering if I can also use this as a Gundogan Victory Challenge career with Goretzka as well?

I'd currently only need a 5-0, 7-0, 8-0 and 9-0 win... And it's not even Christmas yet so we've potentially got the early stage of the FA Cup to smash some lower league teams and maybe one of the weaker teams in my Champions League group...

You can but be careful. It’s one of the most heartbreaking challenge 😂

Yeah I can see me beating someone 5-0, but the top end are pretty hard unless you totally dominate someone (like a lower league club, and convince the players to go for the jugular).

So yeah we did ok.

 

I was really struggling to get my wingers to actually get assists as they were both rubbish at corners and everything was coming through the middle. De Bruyne was his awesome self as usual, but all 3 of the the "wise men" got injured for a month or so at various times.

 

So how did they do?

So my BBM got more assists than my winger... I think I should have been paying more attention during the games.

So my final score is:

Jesus = 51 (goals) + 4*2 (assists) = 59 total

De Bruyne = 23 (assists)

Son = 17 (assists)

Sterling = 11 (assists)

110 points

Just scraping in with Sterling but Jesus getting a decent enough return, the 31 goals from Aguero were all pretty much from the subs bench or when Jesus was injured/tired.

 

@Rob can you put me on the leader board please.

Next up (before the start of next week's goal-a-mile-ride-along fun): Ain't no party like a Bruno party!

 

edit: In terms of the Gundogan challenge, I didn't get any wins above the 6-0 drumming of Newcastle

Anyway, good attempt mate, shame Sterling didn't assist more. Seems like he had a cruizy season out there on the wing. Still, the badge is yours! 

I tried this one 5 times - got 2 points more than you on my first try, then less than that on my next 3 attempts! It's certainly harder than it seems (at least for me).

I'm half tempted to try a career with Newcastle at some point, if the Premier League wasn't as hard I'd be tempted to to try a 1k or something similar with them. But I just don't feel like it's feasible as;

a) Newcastle don't have enough money to buy a suitable striker (unless I try it with someone like Ricky Jade-Jones from a lower league club or free transfer).

b) The Premier League is just too tough a league.

 

Yeah I think getting wingers to actually get assists is harder this year.

Plus I don't think it helps that my wingers would have preferred to be IFs and be scoring themselves rather than only crossing the ball.

Haha, @RichD and I are arguing over who gets to do a TT with Newcastle! And @Rob thinks it will be hard to get strikers etc, too, but I think it will be fine. I'll probably have to do it now to prove it to myself.   I'll probably be really boring and buy Pellegri and Esposito again, plus one more, plus sell off a bunch of the existing squad to finance a total overhaul. So maybe all of you in combination have killed my Beijing 3x1KC attempt (though I blame Rob, I really do)...

The bit I am certain about is that it's much harder to get wingers to 20 Crossing this year (only done it once). I'm guessing that if you do, then you'll get a lot of assists, but not sure it will be as much as last year. But I'm often playing with Wingers with 15 or 16 Crossing and they do not do as well for sure.

And it does feel like there are less true wingers in the game these days. I often walk right past players with cuts inside etc and try to find ones with hugs the line, but they are few and far between...

Lol, if I wasn't lazy and could be bothered making a tactic work properly with 3 up front, I'd probably try it too.

It'd definitely be hard to get the top players as the money just isn't there without selling the better players. Maybe loans the first season or two and then after winning some trophies it would be easier as they'd want to work with you and the status of the club wouldn't be as much of a hurdle. That and the chronic lack of investment in the training ground/youth academy.

Yeah I really need to look at the player traits a bit more, things like takes a good corner or hugs the line are definitely key to it. I've had players up in the 17-18 range, but don't think I've had a 20 yet in crossing. But it might be that I've been prioritising fitness coaches, might need more attacking ones... Maybe set myself as attacking, have 2x fitness 1x defensive or youth and 1x attacking. Who need GK or motivational right!

You’d be surprised by how much players would be interested in joining Newcastle.

I need motivational. They’re a lot more important than youth and defensive imo. They even sometimes make professionalism goes up and traits like leadership, teamwork, etc.

Yeah, I've got the tactic now and want to see how it goes in the EPL. 

I haven't played Newcastle this year (which I need to correct!) and selling players is generally harder this year - but I think I'll be able to sell enough of them. Then I follow the same pattern I always use. Sell a lot of the current squad for as much as I can get, then buy the best young players I can using 50% sell on clauses to get them cheaper etc. Gonna test it out when I finish this Ronaldo badge. Pretty confident I'll be able to put together a squad that will struggle a little in the first season, come good near the end (as the youngster level up a bit) and go on to win the CL in a 3 or 4 seasons!  

I guess I might be a little overconfident there... With the training gorund though, when you start with Superstar reputation you normally get a couple of upgrades from day 1 (but it takes away some transfer budget)...

Hmm, might have to look into the coaches a bit more, do some reading up.

I think there's definitely some deadwood that you should be able to move on, and get enough to get the right youngsters in. That first season will be a struggle though.

Personally I want to see someone actually make Joelinton a goal machine, obviously he's not going to be amazing...

@geordiekrispy, @Scratch I got a great news for both of you. I went to Newcastle with Superstar reputation and requested the board to upgrade training facility until they reject it. I managed to get it up to superb and with £68M budget left. They started with average one.

Yeah, that's pretty consistent with what happened last year (I did a few saves there last year), so that gives me hope that it's pretty achievable...

I also saw they got a few players worth £5M+ out on loan. Probably recalling and sell them will give some extra money.

Oh yeah, that's one big difference this year and quite handy too. It's great when you go to one of those big clubs and can recall massive stars who are out on load for some reason... Not only to sell, but also to use in some cases...

I remember Muto being awesome in FMM19 (I didn't play last year).

There are some good players on loan who just don't fit the current (mis)management's "tactics" who should be better than they have been in real life.

Sounds like it could be a winner then, might try upgrading both youth and training to see how far up you can get them both. Then go from there.
