Career Ian attempts the 50/50 1k split challenge with Bruno

Hello and welcome to my latest medium length career where I’ll be taking on the Striker Peak Years challenge created by @FuddledFox, you can find the challenge here and it was a personal favourite of mine last year when it was created.

I’m not planning on installing the winter update until I finish my current Goaltopia career of which there are potentially five seasons left so I just felt I’d do another medium length one at the same time. I’ve chosen this challenge mainly because the tactic I’m using for the goaltopia career was originally based around three players combining to both score and assist and having got to the stage where I feel that that system is somewhat decent on this version of the game I had to test it out properly so here we are.

I’ve gone with a top team and top players which will probably disgust a few so apologies for that in advance but as I said above I wanted to test the tactic out so it makes some sense to go this way. I’ll keep the updates a bit shorter than usual and have the first season played already so here we go.

Players

I went with Bruno Fernandes, Romelu Lukaku and Andrea Belotti as my three challengers and Real Madrid as my team.

Bruno was the first player I thought of as soon as I decided to go with quality as he was utterly ridiculous when I used him on the badge challenge so I had to see whether that was just a fluke or whether he is just fantastic. Lukaku was the next pick as he has it all really as a striker and I wanted really high shooting which he’s got so fits the bill. Belotti was the tricky one as I wasn’t totally sold but I’ve always got on well with him on previous games and he also has nice shooting too so he’s in.

Let’s see how the opening season went.

Season 1

We built a great team with a lot of quality players arriving as you’d expect and I was determined to build a squad of youngish players who could all potentially play the full five seasons.

We ended up with two decent looking teams as you can see below with Fabian also there as a midfield option and decent enough backups to our challengers. Most of them are at the age where they may well last the full five seasons which is what I wanted and it’s just really Hazard and Ramos that we’ll be looking to replace next season. I actually tried to sell Hazard this year but couldn’t get any takers so he ended up as our first choice playmaker and Ramos will leave next season as his contract is up so we’ll have to try and find a decent replacement for him.

We were very strong which I realise probably isn’t something that’ll surprise you given the quality we have in the squad but it was still pleasing to score 149 league goals in the first season.

Here are the fixtures and at one point I was dreaming of the Gündogan challenge with Goretzka but unfortunately we couldn’t get the all important 9-0. It’s something I’ll be looking out for in future seasons though if this is anything to go by but the five substitutions rule does help which we’ll lose and replacing Ramos might not be so easy, both of which could hinder us in terms of defence. We’ll keep an eye on it though and just hope.

The trio performed well but it was that certain Portuguese player that stole the show and it’s safe to say he really is fantastic. I’m in no doubt now that he’s the best individual player I’ve ever had the pleasure to use in any version of this game. I’ve used others in the same role including Leão and Maldini on my Goaltopia save who both perform very well but nothing like Bruno. He just seems to be involved in absolutely everything with the only thing he’s not doing being headed goals. Anyway, a total of 249 goals and assists for the season and we move onto season two now.

Thanks for reading.

Great stuff. No disgust here. We each have our own way of doing things. I expect the outcome will be massive, as suggested by that brilliant first season. Keep it up.

Incredible first season, awesome stuff Ian! Love the player choices, massive fan of Lukaku and Bruno on the game. This will be a huge score.

Thank you Dai, I know plenty don’t like people using top players and clubs but in fairness I’d like to think I do mix things up a bit in that regard so here we are with the elites 😂

Hopefully we can complete things with a nice score and the first season is certainly very promising on that front.

Thanks Richard, I just can’t get over Bruno and how good he seems but in fairness I’ve only completed two opening seasons with him so we’ll see if he can maintain this over a few season. I’ve found with this tactic that when things go wrong it can be frustrating with the strikers mostly just shooting either wide or straight at the keeper so I was determined to get strikers with rather good shooting to see if that helped. I mean Lukaku has 20 for his so you’d think any half chances falling to him in and around the box should be just a goal about 95% of the time and he does seem rather clinical.

I mighty fine trio of players there Ian and it’s nice to see Belloti get some love again as we haven’t seen him around these parts in a hole iirc.

Thank you Mr Fox, I do like Belotti and it just seems like he should probably be a bit older as he seems to have been around for years. He’s up against it here though with the other two but he’s contributing and hopefully he can step it up a bit if or more like when the other two suffer injuries. In fact, while typing this out I’ve just remember I used him for the opening season of the community event a couple of years ago where we had to use a scorer and an assister and went through the alphabet in terms of first letter of surnames. He was good then too.

Fernandes and Lukaku are two absolutely mental players! Fantastic start, but the most surprising thing is Sergio Ramos going to Bournemouth, how did that happen? You will reach 1k points easy I reckon.

Thank you Albionic, yeah they both are great and I can’t say I’ve ever used Lukaku before so it’s nice to see for me. I knew Ramos was leaving due to his contract being up but never checked where he ended up. No disrespect to Bournemouth but it’s a bit ridiculous really him ending your there 😂

The 1k has got to be the target and it’s looking very good. The only real concern is if Bruno were to have horrible injury luck as everything seems to go through him.

Thank you Lord Danish, he’s a nice pick but it’s just a shame that the other two are not giving him a chance. Hopefully when the others pick up injuries he can have his moment to shine.

Incredible start Ian and you choose one of my personal faves in Belotti.

Thanks Kane, he’s one of my favourites too and it just feels like he’s been in his mid-20’s forever.

I’ve completed season two as well but also have season 12 of my goaltopia to post so one of the two updates will come today, just not sure which one yet.

Wow, that's some season! Jaw dropping stuff, especially from Bruno! I think part of it's down to that T role, which is super powered this year, but a large part of it has to be down to Bruno. 60+50 is just.... Got no words.

Thanks Scratch, I love the role but I’m thinking there’s something there with Bruno too as I’ve used others there who’ve done very well but nothing like Bruno always seems to. It may be the set pieces with being a set piece specialist that’s really making the difference but then again he’s not actually on pens as Lukaku is. We’ll see if he can maintain this over a few season.

It could be those hidden attributes too. Maybe he has high values for Consistency or Determination etc. Either way, he's doing amazing things..

Brilliant start mate, I always find my Trequartista outscored my strikers most times and with Bruno's quality I wouldn't be surprised to see him surpass Lusaka next season! KIU!

Yeah I was just thinking the other day about how I could see his hidden attributes being very good. It’s all good in the relationships page which is a good indication and he seems very good when it comes to injuries (touch wood). I remember he was very good last year even though I never used him much but it’s easy to see how perhaps he’s been boasted a bit for this years game after his form for Man Utd last year. I’ve got Leão and Maldini playing the role in my other save and they are great but not up to the level of Bruno. It may well be consistency as I notice those two will have a lot more poor frustrating games whereas there’s very little of those with Bruno.

Thank you Ruvio, it does seem to be a great role and I’ve kind of amplified it going for DLF’s for the strikers. I originally had a similar system with more attacking striker roles which I’d altered for the Bruno badge challenge, in fact it might’ve been for the Messi and Ronaldo one last year but it was for the reason of getting more goals for the T player. I was tempted to try different striker roles here to try and spread the goals more but with it being goals and assists I just decided to leave it as the DLF’s I think assist better so probably six and two three’s.

It really shows how good Lukaku is to be keeping up with him so hopefully they can both keep doing well.

Season 2

Good evening all and welcome to season two of this striker peak years challenge attempt with three challengers. We started well with a nice first season as we built the squad to hopefully serve us well for the forthcoming years and the trio scored and assisted a good few goals. We were hoping for more of the same this season so let’s see how it went.

Transfers

I mentioned last time out that I’d be looking to sell Hazard this year but what I also forgot to mention was that he unfortunately suffered a two month injury in the off season that would curtail those plans so not sure if he’ll ever be sold now, well certainly not for the massive fee that we were hoping for anyway. He’s still great and has performed well in the AP role and can fill in in other positions so it’s certainly not the end of the world. Ramos did leave to enjoy the end of his career on the south coast of England at Bournemouth. Replacing him was something I was a bit concerned about because I found that difficult on my recent Ronaldo badge attempt, well not difficult replacing him but noticed a drop off in terms of our defence in the second season without him. I looked at Langlet who I’ve always found to be decent, made the approach only to be snubbed straight away by our rivals Barca. I was still confident we’d be able to get him later but there was a temptation there to just switch Fabinho to that role and bring in a quality midfielder to replace him which is what I decided to do in the end. For the midfielder, I narrowed things down to either Barella or Kimmich as being the two preferred options. I went in for Barella and again suffered the dreaded brush off but was again confident we’d be able to get him eventually. Rather than wait I just put a bid in for Kimmich which was accepted and the rest is history as he joined the ranks. DCL came in to offer good cover to the two strikers for hopefully the duration of this attempt and we also needed a decent backup goalie so we brought in Meslier from Leeds who should be fine when called upon you’d think.

Team Performances

I was worried about how our defence would cope without Ramos given that Fabinho started out the season not fully natural at centre back and we did seem a bit more leaky early on but in the end we ended being pretty solid with a better defensive record than last year. We won all of the trophies available except the CWC where Barca beat us in the final which was slightly annoying especially as we’d beaten them in the Champions League final with Belotti proving to be the hero with the only goal of the game. We scored slightly more league goals this year so all in all it was a successful season.

Fixtures

Here are the fixtures and you can see we had a few bigger victories but on most of the bigger Gündogan ones we conceded in which was a shame. We also didn’t get any really big ones in the CWC so no Gündogan this year I’m afraid.

The Challengers

Not bad again for injuries really with just a couple of short ones for Belotti and Lukaku. I’m still unsure as to how I’ll approach things if Bruno were to suffer injury so I guess we’ll just have to wait a bit longer to find out.

These two were probably the highlight games for the trio with some good goal and  assist action.

Another similar season to the last really considering the extra CWC games and it was Bruno again who was the star player with 71 goals and 68 assists. Belotti tried his best to match his previous return but managed to score one extra goal and Lukaku was again very clinical with 67 goals in 57 games. Add it all up and they hit a combined total of 281 goals and assists so we’re happy with that. Lukaku and Belotti are the oldest of the three and may well start to decline before we end things so we’ll just have to hope they don’t dip too much if that is ti be the case.

Now we go onto the next season and I’m not even sure what signings I’m looking to make at this stage as the squad is really good with most players in their peak years but no doubt I’ll do something. Next year is also the year where the World Cup is held in the middle of the season so we’ll have to negotiate our way through that but I’m not even sure if the congestion is that bad here in Spain as most seasons there’s not many fixtures in December anyway. We’ll just see how it goes.

Score

Season 1

Bruno Fernandes: 62 goals and 50 assists in 53 games

Romelu Lukaku: 65 goals and 20 assists in 56 games

Andrea Belotti: 33 goals and 19 assists in 48 games

Season Total: 160 goals and 89 assists in 157 games = 249 points

Season 2

Bruno Fernandes: 71 goals and 68 assists in 61 games

Romelu Lukaku: 67 goals and 22 assists in 57 games

Andrea Belotti: 34 goals and 19 assists in 58 games

Season Total: 172 goals and 109 assists in 176 games = 281 points

Overall

Bruno Fernandes: 133 goals and 118 assists in 114 games

Romelu Lukaku: 132 goals and 42 assists in 113 games

Andrea Belotti: 67 goals and 38 assists in 106 games

Season Total: 332 goals and 198 assists in 333 games = 530 points

What a season Ian, fantastic! That must be a record for one players goal involvements with Bruno. Hopefully this carries on 😁

Thank you Richard, I’ve no doubt there’ll have been higher than this but I’ve personally never had a player both scoring and assisting like this. I think the tactic is good for getting a lot out of the T role but I really feel like the main thing is Bruno as he just never seems to let you down. If he has an off day you can bet he’s still at least either scored or assisted a goal.

Thank you both, he is pretty good it would seem.

Started the next season and it’s going ok so far before we hit the congestion period. I can see that Bruno is always going to be pretty good here and he seems very robust when it comes to injuries but can’t see him going the full five seasons without some reasonable injury troubles so we’ll see how we cope without him when that happens. I was tempted to put him on penalties too but held off as Lukaku is doing fine and don’t think he’s even missed one yet.

I only made three incoming transfers with Barella coming in who I’ve been meaning to try this year, Romagnoli who I know from my Milan career and Grealish who arrived as cover for loads of positions.

Impressive season Ian. Bruno is pretty much unbelievable!

Thank you Lord Danish, he’s a bit ridiculous from what I’m continuing to see. He is really good in real life and you can perhaps expect a bit of an increase in the game but not sure it should be this much. I felt it when I did the Bruno challenge so needed to test it again and it’s confirmed, he’s truly magnificent on this years game.

I’m just waiting for the drop off but it just doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen and it’s looking like it’s going to have to be a bad injury.

Here we are now live after 18 league games. Belotti got injured for a few weeks and I think I missed his comeback so he may have missed out on a couple of games.

I’ve never had a plus 9 avr over a full season even with a striker so to still be in contention here with an AMC in Bruno is very pleasing. Can’t see it remaining until the end of the season as it was 9.3 earlier but we’re in with a chance.

I think Bruno is a god powered Regen, the way he is performing in your save. He is absolutely ridiculous. There should be a separate section in Vibe Record store for Bruno.

Holy smokes! Incredible numbers! Obviously, Bruno is brilliant on this game but that's ridiculous! 👏

Keep it up, pal.

Thank you Dai, I could sense it when I did the Bruno challenge so just had to try him on a other challenge.

I may be doing the tactic a bit of a disservice in saying it’s all about Bruno though.

Season 3

If you’ve been following all of my posts since the season two update then you’ll have a good idea as to how this season has gone but here I am anyway with the full season three update.

Let’s just get straight to it.

Transfers

I always wanted to try Barella so here was my chance as he came in for big money. Romagnoli is a nice peak aged centre back who I bought to replace the outgoing Militão. I like Militão but he was very much fourth choice and not yet developed so I didn’t feel like I’d be able to give him the game time he needed without it perhaps hindering us in the short term. Jack Grealish was brought in as cover for Bruno and for loads of other positions as he’s so versatile and also incredibly good in loads of positions.

Team Performances

It was a successful season with only a few draws and a decent amount of league goals.

Fixtures

I think we went unbeaten in all competitions and there were a few big victories but unfortunately we couldn’t complete the Gündogan challenge. I remember looking at one stage late on in the season and thinking we only needed a 9-0 so we were dreaming it’d happen in one of the last few matches but I’m so glad it didn’t as having looked again, we had no 1-0.

The Challengers

It wasn’t bad for injuries to the challengers but we suffered a couple of longer ones to squad members including a devastating broken leg that Grealish suffered. I was glad that one didn’t go to one of the challengers but it was still crap to lose Jack for the rest of the season at that point. Casemiro also suffered a bad one but he wasn’t really featuring at that stage and has now left the club at the end of the season. Unfortunately the main man Bruno was injured in a match in early May so he missed the last six games which was disappointing with how he was performing but can’t be helped. Lukaku’s injury in the Champions League final doesn’t mean much as it was the last game of the season.

Bruno’s injury cut his season short but he still ended up with a nice total. He’s getting all of the plaudits here and rightly so but Lukaku is also doing very well and I’d say Bruno has him to thank for a good chunk of his assists. Obviously there’s the corner goals but Lukaku being such a good finisher also helps as any chance in and around the box falling to him is more or less a goal so there’s plenty of Bruno passing to Lukaku who then scores stuff going on which really helps Bruno rack up the assists. Belotti didn’t do so well this year and it didn’t help that I missed his comeback from injury just before the break for the World Cup. He also seemed to be tired more often than the other two so missed more games from that but still a decent contribution and he does seem to step it up when required. Anyway, 153 points for the trio this season which is similar to the opening season and we’re happy enough as last year we had the CWC.

Bruno lost a point on his dribbling while he was out injured and he’s got a dreaded red downward arrow on his crossing so hopefully that won’t drop. Lukaku isn’t showing any sign of decline yet and neither is Belotti so long may that continue. We have 783 points toward our target of 1000 so it’s looking like it’d be a disaster if we fail there but we can’t count our chickens just yet and need to play on.

Thank you Richard, I feel like the tactic works very well for goals and assists out of the three players. I worked on it last year and finally got it right for this years game right before the winter update so hopefully it’ll still be decent on the new version. I’ve just finished season four now so no doubt I’ll be back tomorrow with another update 😂

Good evening,

Before I start the season four update there’s something else I feel I should mention first. There’s the 50/50 goals/assists 1k challenge where you need to have a player score at least 500 goals and assist a further 500, it’s a challenge I’ve been tempted to try for some time so you can probably see where I’m going here in terms of Bruno and his performances so far. Bruno was 25 when we started this challenge so it wasn’t on my mind at the beginning but by the time we got towards the end of season two I began to think about it. When you look at it over say 10 years, you obviously need 50 of each per season on average and we are hitting those numbers so far. It’s probably a stretch to imagine Bruno keeping this up until he’s 35 but you could easily see him remaining pretty decent until about 33 plus he could then play a little longer than 35 if we were lucky so it doesn’t seem impossible to think that he could perhaps manage it.

Anyway, I thought I’d mention this now to make it clear that I’m thinking about it and I’ll kind of plan towards perhaps carrying on when it comes to transfers etc. We’ll just see how the final two seasons of the peak years challenge goes and if it still looks doable at the end, I’ll have little choice but to keep going.

Right, enough of that and here’s the season four update.

Season 4

Here we go then and straight into action with the transfers.

Transfers

With the possibility that we may carry this on beyond the five years I decided to bring in a couple of younger players with that great Hungarian midfielder being one of them and de Ligt being the other. They’re both around 22-23 so beyond their youth days and just about to enter their peak so we were happy to sign them both. Nearly every player was complaining about lack of squad depth so I also brought a few youngsters in on loan to hopefully alleviate those concerns but it didn’t really work in truth. It didn’t seem to have any impact on our team performances either so I’m inclined to think it’s some kind of bug that’ll hopefully have been remedied in the winter update, we can only hope.

Team Performances

Another nice season for the team, slightly less league goals scored than previous years but not by much really. The Champions League final victory over RBL has to be the highlight of the season.

Fixtures

No Gündgan again this year but we weren’t miles away and the defence was there especially towards the end of the season once we’d got de Ligt settled in. Just the one defeat away to Barca in the Champions League in which we won over two legs anyway and one league draw which came in between those two Barca games. Not much of a thing with Real I know but personally with using this type of system it’s rare it goes like this for me as there’s usually a good few poor results thrown in. We have a few players arriving at 30 so we may see a few changes next year as I start to build a new team in case we continue on for the Bruno 50/50 split challenge, so hopefully we won’t suffer too much of a drop off as the new players gel.

The Challengers

It was just Belotti with the injuries this year as the in game Lukaku one below came to nothing and he didn’t even drop in condition either so no games missed there. The only games he and Bruno missed were from being tired and Belotti just seems to like playing 48 games a season.

The highlight game was the Champions League final as mentioned above so here’s the stats shots from that game which includes the hat trick of assists for Bruno.

A little bit of a strange season this year as Bruno raced away in his scoring early on but just wasn’t getting the assists like usual. Lukaku wasn’t quite scoring as many goals either and became more of an assister (usually to Bruno) which was a little bewildering given how the previous seasons have gone. The only change I made was to put Bruno on penalties with the 50/50 challenge in mind and you wouldn’t say Lakaku’s stats have dropped much yet so again, it was strange. I’m on commentary only with replays on so I can see the goals and Bruno just wasn’t getting anything from corners in terms of assists. There’s a bit of me that thinks because Lukaku has hit 30 years old, perhaps the game has decided he isn’t going to score as many goals now so he’s now assisting more as a result but it’s probably just a coincidence. There were a few changes to the squad though as Hazard was very much fazed out and things improved anyway in the second half of the season as Bruno got back to assisting like usual but it’s something that concerns me going forward if we end up going for the 50/50 challenge. Anyway, we ended up with 254 points in the end which puts us above the 1,000 point target. As mentioned earlier, there were more assists and less goals for Lukaku and the opposite for Bruno so the latter ended up a little short of the 50 assist target but not by much on 47. Belotti produced a somewhat normal return for him and perhaps he’ll be the lucky one next year and not suffer any injuries.

Bruno’s dribbling dropped last year when he suffered his injury, his crossing had a downward red arrow too so I put my focus on that and it’s now gone up as have some of his other attributes which is pleasing at his age. The two slightly older guys still look good as well so it doesn’t seem like there’ll be too much of a drop off from them until the end of the five seasons.
