Running out of compliments to give you here Ian, even with a slight drop, they killed it, already over a 1,000 only 4 seasons in, amazing work. Hopefully Bruno can get you the 500-500 as well, I’m sure under your management you can 😁

Wow. This is superb. Hopefully they keep it up next season. The alternative challenge is definitely achievable at this rate. Hopefully the stat drops don't come thick and fast. Good luck with that. Excited to see if he can do it. Would be awesome.

1000 in 4 seasons, that's insane, well done Ian! As long as he gets no major injuries, Fernandes could definitely reach that 500/500 challenge.

Everything is going great again Ian. Might as well get yourself 1,000 goals and 1,000 assists with Bruno. He ain’t stopping until 40 at least 😂

Thank you Richard, hopefully they can keep it going for one more season. We’ll just see what happens with Bruno as the first half of the season was a bit frustrating with the lack of assists, he ended up alright in the end with a decent total but it’s a concern going forward. We’ll just see how it goes I guess.

Thanks Dai, yeah a lot will probably depend on how quickly he declines and I’ve noticed this year a bit more variation on when that happens from player to player. Last year it nearly always seemed to be about 33 when the big drop seemed to occur but this year I’ve had players go both earlier and later than that so hopefully it’ll be the latter here with Bruno.

Thank you Albionic, they’ve done very well so far and hopefully they can have one more decent season together before we hopefully switch our focus to Bruno.

Cheers Lord Danish, I’ve been working things out based on 10 seasons so 50 each per season but he may well play on until he hits 40 which obviously then lowers the seasonal targets so it definitely seems doable.

Fantastic Ian. The 500/500 1K is certainly in the bag.

Thanks Big Red Machine, hopefully you are right.

Season 5

Hello and welcome to the final season of this striker peak years challenge that has also morphed into a 1k, 50/50, goals/assists challenge with Bruno Fernandes. There’s quite a bit to get through here so I’ll not delay things any further and just make a start.

Transfers

We were looking to the future here as we brought in a few younger players. Jude Bellingham probably doesn’t need much introduction as he’s a fine youngster who can play in multiple positions so a great player to bring in who will hopefully last the full length of this save. Costa is a half decent keeper and Pastoor is a reasonably looking young striker who is a regen. Kimmich and Fabinho left at the end of the season as their contracts were up and I felt it was time for them to leave as they’d declined a bit. The ageing Goretzka and Saúl were both due to leave too but they still looked great so I paid a little over the odds to keep them for a further year.

Team Performances

There isn’t really too much to say here as we won everything and in very comfortable fashion. The team results don’t mean much for the challenge, well apart from the fact that if you’re winning practically every game you can be pretty sure you’ll be scoring a lot of goals. Our trio ended their peak years challenge in a rather fitting way as they each scored and assisted a goal in the final game of the season against RBL in the CWC final. We had another very nice Champions League final as we beat PSG 7-0 with each of the trio scoring a brace of goals and Bruno also assisting a couple of goals.

The Challengers

Belotti suffered an in game injury in the first friendly of the season and Lukaku suffered the same fate in a league game and that was it for injuries. Fernandes did manage to get himself sent off though in a Champions League group stage game which I quite enjoyed in truth.

This 13-0 was the highlight game, well apart from the final game of the season mentioned further up where they all scored and assisted a goal in a fitting end to the challenge.

Aided by the lack of injuries and this year being a CWC year the trio ended up saving their best season for last as they ended up with a points total of 300 for the year. Bruno was just Bruno, Lukaku had a somewhat normal season by his standards but Belotti really impressed and ended up with 34 goals and 28 assists which is his best by far. A challenge total of 1,337 points which we’re very happy with.

They all still look good and I’m surprised the two older boys have remained more or less the same throughout as I did think by the end they’d both perhaps decline a little. We’ve still got Bruno to think about for the 1k 50/50 challenge so I’m hoping he can also remain decent for another season or two yet.

I think you broke the game Ian 😂

What a season from the boys and Bruno, what can I say, awesome season from him. I’m sure he will go on to smash the next few seasons as well😁

Thank you Richard, I can’t say much more about Bruno other than what I’ve already said as I’ve never had a player perform like this for me on any football game tbh. Malgani who was Maradona as a classic player on Pro Evo years ago on PS2/PSP is the closest I’ve ever had even though the games are kind of different really. Hopefully he can keep this up and do the 1k split but even if he can’t I’ll be back with a younger guy to try it anyway.

Thanks Lord Danish, I know, it’s turned out good but I wasn’t totally sure it would when we started tbh. I’d gradually worked on the tactic during my goaltopia career and felt like we’d perhaps got there in the end. Trouble was that the two Everton boys were starting to decline at that point so I wasn’t exactly totally sure where we were at in truth. I felt like we had a tactic that was somewhat stable in terms of defence (with a top team anyway) and the vast majority of the shots going to the front three. I have a belief that the developers are hindering strikers in terms of shot success rate which can lead to frustration with lesser strikers. Aerial never seems to be a problem and I’m thinking that they can’t do anything about that on the current engine. Anyway, I really needed to test this tactic more and decided that this was the challenge most suitable as the tactic was originally based on goals and assists from the front three. I wanted to try it with strikers who have 17+ and preferably 19-20 for shooting to see what would happen as you’d think that even if they are nuking the strikers shooting the truly best finishers in the world would overcome that. So that’s what I did here. I could’ve just done it in private but apart from my badge attempts and my goaltopia career I haven’t posted much in terms of careers so I decided to just post it as I was going. It’s been a success and hopefully the tactic will remain somewhat decent on the new update but even if not I’ll try to tweak it and go again with some other more interesting players and club.

Incredible. No doubt you can kick on from here and get the 1k. Well done mate. And good luck, of course.

Thank you Dai, it’s gone very well and hopefully Bruno can keep good for a few years yet to give us a chance. His physicals aren’t too high though when it comes to pace in particular (not that that has stopped him so far) so it’s a concern of mine that if that attribute were to suddenly drop he could go from hero to zero quite quickly. We’ll see how it goes and I have a few things to say about it before I start so probably will do that at some point in the coming days.

Yeah the tactic looks very solid. It must be interesting if you can try this with wonderkids that can play for 17-20 seasons. Probably a 1k for both goals and assists would be doable with someone like Pedri or Reyna?

I did have a player and club in mind but the 1k for both would definitely not be doable in that case. I may well have a change of plan but it’ll depend on what things are like on the new update.

 Brilliant stuff Ian 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thanks Mr Fox, I’ll be back again with another attempt at this later no doubt which I’m certain won’t be like this in terms of returns. I have the club chosen but no idea of the players yet.

Going forward with Bruno and I wanted to get him signed for a further five years as quickly as possible with the hope that he wouldn’t announce his retirement at the end of the deal. I couldn’t manage it during season five but as soon as we went over into the new season I went in again and got the job done. He hasn’t announced that he’ll retire at the end either so hopefully we may get another couple of years out of him beyond the five.

3B828EA5-E798-4AC2-B119-CCD18925FE82.thumb.png.abb8463fa768e7dd03afd250da8bd900.png

He needs 140 goals and 220 assists so things are looking much better in terms of the goals and as I result I think I’ll take him off penalties. I mentioned putting him on them after season three thinking it’d help with this challenge and I guess it does for goals, not really for assists though as if he wins a pen and then scores it he only gets the goal whereas if he wins it with someone else scoring it he’ll get the assist. I’ve been watching it a bit last season and I’ve noticed him scoring them with no one getting an assist plenty of times so looks like he is winning plenty of them. I feel we need to slightly prioritise assists at this stage so it’s an easy decision to make. It’s similar with free kicks I guess but I’ll leave those for now.

The next update may be delayed a little though as I’ve got an update to post for my goaltopia career and then there is a good chance I may try to finish that career before returning to play this.

Season 6

It became incredibly clear fairly early on in this striker peak years challenge that we’d need to carry on with Bruno for the 50/50 (Goals/Assists) 1k challenge as his numbers were certainly good enough to give us a chance. As mentioned in the above post, I entered season six with the first thing on my mind being to try and get Bruno to sign a new five year deal. We did that and he accepted but not only that, he also didn’t announce that he’d retire at the end of the contract so we may well get a little longer.

9983CEE6-AF7D-43AD-A0B4-1575260638C3.thumb.png.4055a7ededf588d55759da2b9718e5b0.png

If we focus on just five seasons then we need 140 goals and 220 assists so that’s on average 28 goals per season and 44 assists. We may get more years which obviously then lowers the required seasonal targets but I prefer to focus on getting it done in five and to me the goals look fine but I’m nowhere near as confident on the assists. With that in mind, I decided to take Bruno off of penalty duty which may well increase his assists a little even if that comes at the expense of some goals.

Anyway, let’s see how season six went.

Transfers

We went big to bring in Trent to predominantly play on the right and centre back Gvardiol came to hopefully remain until the bitter end. A few older players left at the end of last season in Fabinho and Kimmich and Saúl, Belotti and Romagnoli left at the end of this one as we try to gradually build the next team.

Fixtures

We came very close to completing the Gündigan challenge with only a 1-0 victory eluding us. All of the other results were down at about the halfway stage of the season and I just thought it’d be almost certain we’d get a 1-0 in the second half of the season. It didn’t happen unfortunately and Goretzka is ageing all of the time so perhaps this was the last chance. I am keeping him for another year though so we’ll go again next year, fingers crossed!

Bruno

Taking him off penalties definitely hindered his goal scoring as you can see below with Lukaku doing the business. I was watching and Bruno did pick up a few assists from pens but not quite as many as I thought he would as they were largely spread out between him, the strikers and two wide players. I’ll keep things like this though as he needs all of the assists he can get at this stage.

He ended up with 66 goals and 55 assists which we can only be happy with. No injuries again this year and the last one he suffered was the month long one to bring his season three to an early close so I’m kind of waiting for one in truth. No doubt it’ll come at some point, hopefully it won’t be a leg breaker though!

He hasn’t declined at all yet so long may that continue.

Brilliant mate. Hopefully he stays injury free and this will be wrapped up sooner rather than later. Amazing stuff you're doing here. 👏

Thank you Dai, hopefully his decline won’t be too rapid. I suppose another season somewhat similar to this and we’ll practically have the goals target met and it’ll just be those assists.

Awesome season again Ian. You’ll get the target pretty soon I think. Good job.

Thanks Richard, I do hope so. If I try to look at it from the outside, it seems like it’ll be comfortable but playing it makes me have some doubts. The main worry is that he’ll just all of a sudden mega decline but the longer he keeps going at this level makes you think that even that wouldn’t matter.

Season 7

This season ended up being very similar to the last so I won’t delay things and just get straight into action with the transfers.

Transfers

With Courtois ageing I wanted a new younger goalkeeper and Simón was the player chosen, he seems like he should be a good choice too. Moriba came in from rivals Barca, a player who I always think is a bit hit or miss but he was a hit for me in my Milan career so he gets another shot here. I wanted a new fourth choice centre back who was also fairly young and Kabak seemed like the best option so he arrived, he wasn’t used that much in the end but he was ok when called upon. Grealish left at the end of the season and the other incoming was a young striker for the future.

Team Performances

We were pretty dominant again this season with just the two draws in the league. We also scored 172 league goals which must be my personal record and it was nice to finish the season off with a nice 8-1 victory over Porto in the Champions League final.

Fixtures

Things began very well when it comes to the Gündogan challenge as we started the league season with a 9-0 victory. The fun didn’t stop there though as by the time we beat Barca 2-0 away on the 26th September we only then needed a 1-0 and an 8-0. Unfortunately that was where the fun ended as we couldn’t get either of the two remaining score lines which was a little annoying as it’s not like we didn’t get close. There was also a couple of 0-0’s where Bruno stunk the place out so we’ll see if that’s perhaps something we’ll see more of going forward as he ages.

Bruno

No injuries again this year so he’s proving to be very durable for me here. It’s looking like I’ll have to run onto the pitch myself and do the job. I can also confirm that season eight is largely the same although he does at least suffer one injury.

A better season for assists this year as he hit 64 which is his second best return yet in that regard. The goals were there too with 68 which leaves us only six short of that particular target so I’m fairly sure we’ll get those next year. He still needs a further 101 assists though with three years left on his deal so if next season happens to be anything like this one then we’ll be closing in on that target too.

A slight decline with his strength dropping but I’d certainly say he’s better than I thought he’d be at this stage. I’m not counting my chickens yet though as he may just take one massive nosedive and go to poo.

Lukaku

A quick look at Lukaku who is leaving now. He performed very well even last season at 34 but he is declining so I just feel now is the time for him to go. He’s been very good though and you can really feel the consistency compared to when using lesser strikers.

Just insane numbers, and Bruno is still looking amazing, with no injuries this should be in the bag, great work

surely 172 league goals is a record of some sort?

Thanks Richard, he has proved to me very good and seems to be holding off on his decline. I just keep thinking before every season that this one will be the one where he starts to drop but it just never happens. It will happen at some point I know but it’s going to have to come very soon to have any chance of stopping him reaching his targets.

It’s the first time I think I’ve ever used him and it’s very clear how good he is, no real weaknesses.

Thank you Albionic, it’s getting to the stage where it’d be a bit of a disaster if he were to fail. Still got to get the job done though so we just keep going.

The man above Richard holds the record in the store this year I think with about 180+ but it’s my personal best. I think my previous before this challenge was around 150-60 and we must’ve beaten that a few times here which we can only be happy with.

Ohh very close to complete the challenge! Should be done in a season or two. 8-1 in the Champions League final is madness! Looks you’ve really broken the game
