Help Changing tactics (and a CAM question)

Hi guys, had a lot of help here with some previous questions about coaching and that definitely helped me just with a season with Wolves finishing second and winning the FA Cup.

I've now had some players come back from loan who are a lot better than I realised which will be very handy in terms of a larger squad for tackling the European fixtures, but it has now given me a headache in terms of team structure as some of them don't fit the style I had going. I quite want to use them if possible though so I'm wondering about whether mixing up formation and play styles between matches is viable or not.

In reality obviously, you'd want to pick a style and drill it into the players, but with this not being real life I was wondering if it matters. Do the players get more familiar with a certain formation/style and get better at it or does it make no difference? What about swapping roles within a fixed formation?

And the CAM question: what's the best role for a goal scoring midfielder who arrives in the bid late to bang them in? (Lampard style) I was thinking AM or SS would be best, but a few of my players have the "arrive late in the box" trait and its only highlighted green when I select AP as the role.

Thanks for any help :)

For goals from the CAM position, id go SS personally.

Rather than have two different tactical set ups, have you thought about just saving two selections? Like an A team & B team, then swap round depending on the opposition/fixtures coming up etc.

Will help form relationship, and the younger players get a decent amount of game time.

I don’t there’s any when it comes to formation/tactical style but I believe @Scratch told me something about players need some times to adapt to new club.

I personally prefer Trequartista when it comes to scoring goals. It’s the role I used very often now and it seems to be a lot better than any striker roles.

I had considered the swapping between two teams, but I only have one good target man so to get the most out of him I would want to be changing the set up each time I change personnel. I guess I could just sell him, but I'm quite sentimental and I like using players who were already as the club when I can.

Thanks for the tips on CAMs guys, I'll have an experiment with them both.

For someone arriving late to get on the end of rebounds and cutbacks, I actually like an AP or BBM in the CM position. Anyone in the CAM position stays too far forward for my liking and often ends up playing higher up the pitch than my strikers.

That's useful to know.

I'm trying to set up a short passing around the box tactic. I was thinking this...

... but do you think this might work better for goals from midfield?

(Both with Work Into Box, Through Balls and High Line)

Or is it just an experiment and see thing?
