Career Foxy Goes Back to His Germanic Roots - Season 7

Recommended Posts

Wow! Great job getting the Ajax job. Did you apply for it or did they offer it to you?

Dimata looks like he'll do the job nicely, a good season under his belt and he'll be ready to smash that record!

Well done mate. Shame Badji didn't do better for you, class act but on the young side for a massive score,

Was looking forward to Burkhardt - I used him in my Borussia Babes career, was a nice player, so was looking forward to seeing how he did for the Fox - but obviously taking the Ajax job was the sensible decision.

Dimata shaping up nicely - never seen him before, but looking forward to seeing what he can do for you in a full season. Pretty sure he'll beat the record for you. Anyway, good luck mate, hope he smashes it!

Enjoyed the journey of that season Fucher! I can see why it would have been tough to leave after getting £75m for Badgi but that’s a great move, Ajax always fun to manage, good start there, I had Dimata on a save last year and he’s great, good luck next season 👍

The money I spent and the squad I was building meant it was hard to leave Brugge but the challenge dictates that it would have been crazy for me to turn down Ajax.

Good work on getting the Ajax job, the correct move in my opinion, as who knows when another one would come up. Dimata looks like a real gem, sure he will smash the record next year!

Dimata looks great and an absolute bargain at £3.6m so hopefully he will do the business for me.

I applied for the job and then as soon as they offered it to me I started getting doubts because I was enjoying it at Brugge. In the end though I had to sign for Ajax for the sake of the challenge.

I definitely think Badji would have just got better and better but the money was too good to turn down especially as I was pretty sure S3 would be my last in Belgium. I would have liked to have given Burkardt the full season but it just wasn’t to be unfortunately.

Yep I know the feeling from the Ticket To Ride challenge and my continental Conquerors challenge, you build a good team, pick the improvements where needed and then BAM! a job that's almost too good to pass up comes around and you're stuck in a weird should I go/should I stay dilemma.

I’m quite enjoying the change of mindset because normally I would be trying to build a good squad to last a few seasons but this is much more short term and it’s quite refreshing.

Season 4 - Ajax with Nany Dimata

The last half of season 3 was just a practice for Dimata and he proved he has what it takes to beat the record of 55gls in a season in Holland and so the serious business starts of actually doing just that.

I continued to build the squad in the summer and then January with a focus on trying to get some good wide players in.

Unuvar didn’t go to Spurs and I have no idea why it says he did.

We had a tough Champions League group with Real Madrid, Man Utd and Porto but I was determined to get through if I could as the Champions League is where I will build my reputation and get the big German clubs wanting my services.

In the end it was a double shock as Porto won the group and we came second meaning Real and Man Utd went out early and that was despite me only winning one game which was the home tie with Porto.

Domestically we never lost a game all season as we won the cup and league double with just three league draws being our only dropped points.

In some ways I think I focused a bit too much on results as we weren’t that prolific in front of goal and although we were tight at the back I would have happily conceded more if it had meant more goals for us especially for Dimata.

That said at the winter break he was going at just over a goal a game and needed 27 more goals to break the record. I was trying to play him more in domestic games and then rest him in Europe as I felt the goals would be easier to come by in Holland. It’s hard to know if that has cost him goals or means he has scored less than he would have but he isn’t exactly pulling up any (Mr)trees in the two European games he played.

The European adventure continued as we played Liverpool and Dimata did play in one leg and did score as well.

It looked like the run was coming to an end though as we went three down at Anfield but a late fight back and an injury time goal saw us win on away goals.

This set up a game with Bayern in the Quarter Finals and the perfect chance to make the Bavarians think they should employ me.

After the first leg they were no doubt thinking I might be the man they need.

But after the second leg they had probably forgotten my name.

I was offered alternative employment during the season with Bayer Leverkusen coming in for me in December which was a no go because I had yet to set the record and the rules say I can’t come back to Holland later and set it again.

4E329FB9-DC30-48F6-8C3E-5F56108B09F9.thumb.jpeg.9a1b05313d860ee484d02d5760188bab.jpeg

Spain wanted me as well but that was a firm no as well because it serves no purpose for the challenge.

This does show that decent clubs in Germany are looking at me though and my reputation is enough for major European nations to want to employ me as well. In fact my profile says I am world class now so I just need to set the record and then wait for the German Giants to come begging for me to manage them.

I can’t control what jobs become available but I can control what Dimata does and he did ok, nothing spectacular just ok.

The record was 55gls but it now stands at 56 as Dimata got the job done just. That goal against Liverpool was the only goal in Europe he got and resting him didn’t in 4 of the games probably didn’t yield many more in domestic games either.

That all said though the record is set and Dimata is looking good and isn’t getting any better.

My plan now for season 4 is to improve Ajax and have another tilt at the record with Dimata unless someone offers stupid money for him. Then if a really big job in Germany comes up such as Bayern or Dortmund I will apply and hopefully get that but if not I will finish the season and then reevaluate the situation then.

I think there is more to come from Dimata and this team so my hope is that I can do a second full season in Amsterdam before moving on but circumstances will dictate that as I can’t afford not to take a big job if it comes up.

Whew, just scraped over the line there! But that's great - I'm sure you will improve on it next season, but having it ticked off in case one of the big German clubs come knocking is priceless. Can't wait to see how next season turns out.

I’m sure Dimata can do better with some better players around him so hopefully I can improve next season and then a good German job will come up then. At least I can now leave Holland at the drop of a hat if a job comes up though.

Plenty of quality wing support now to hopefully help him to improve his tally once again. 👍

Season 5 - Ajax with Nany Dimata

First up thank you for your comment @Woody and let’s see if Dimata can improve on last season when he beat the record by 1 goal.

The season didn’t exactly start on a positive note as Dimata decided he wanted away from Ajax. I did put him on the list but there is no way he is going anywhere because I don’t think I would actually get that much for him if anyone came in and as I could leave at any moment during the season to go to a German club I don’t see the point in another situation like at Brugge where I buy a new striker and then don’t give him the full season.

Nany looks pretty good although certainly not a world beater and with a value of just under £18m that’s why I don’t see a big offer coming in for him.

Transfer wise it was very quiet as the squad is good and I’m not staying long term so there’s no need to bring in lots of youngsters. It was simply a case of adding a new CB and CM to the squad to improve my options and squad depth.

In turn only a couple of wingers in Kostic and Acolatse who were surplus to requirements left the club.

The season started well with Dimata showing that even if he doesn’t want to be at the club he will still put the effort in and get some goals with a brace in the Super Cup.

We had another tough Champions League group with both Inter and PSG which went right down to the final game of the group. We won all our home games and then drew at Inter and Sporting and that was enough to see us finish above PSG and go through.

The Dutch Cup was wrapped up in efficient fashion with Dimata adding to his tally of goals.

Last season in the league we went unbeaten but that wasn’t the case this time as we did lose a match on our way to the title. I would have liked to have scored more goals in all honesty although the target is to get Dimata scoring them and he scored well over half our league goals so that was a good return.

DFEF48B9-504D-4C43-86E7-060243FDAA07.thumb.png.56a88182ab28b1377c245ac71014bd7c.png

The Champions League was my place to empress future employers and we did just that. First up we came from a goal down to smash Barca 3-0 at the Nou Camp and progress to the quarters.

FBA1E998-81EA-4211-85D1-2CB543495727.thumb.png.d2a3adb1299f331486fa4513ffd98a84.png

That set up a tie with Napoli who we dispatched 4-2 on aggregate in straight forward fashion.

Next came Man City in the semi’s and two tight matches as we drew 1-1 in Amsterdam before a 2-2 in Manchester which saw us progress to the final although it was nervy at the end after Son had equalised.

That set up a final with Juventus.

Spoiler

Which we won in extra time!

Even better it was Dimata who has struggled for goals in Europe who got the winner.

The target for Dimata was 57 or more goals and he beat that hitting 60 for the season. Last season he only scored 1 goal in European competition but he did better this season with 6 in 9 games although that came at a cost as he scored a few less league goals.

It was a nice little improvement though and takes my total to 114 goals.

What a bargain Dimata had proved to be at £3.6m and he has scored 144gls in two and a half season which works out at just £25,000 a goal.

1985395185_germanics5.thumb.png.dfea5ce924a78a66ce76863e7c4648fa.png

A Champions League win with my main man scoring the winner seems the perfect way to finish my time at Ajax so I resigned the day after the final to start my job hunt.

That didn’t go completely to plan though as I hoped a job would come up quickly but the new season had just started before a couple of tantalising jobs came up in Germany.

It will be which ever of them offer me the job first as I’m not convinced there’s too much difference between them and they both have strikers I could use straight away.

Season 6 - ? at ?

So it looked like I had a choice to make, on one hand I could go for Leverkusen and keep
@Scratch happy or I could follow the energy drink millions to RB as @broodje kip suggested.

In the end I left it up to the clubs and whichever one came in for me first is where I would go. Leverkusen had offered me the job in season 4 but I couldn’t leave Ajax as I hadn’t yet beaten the record but I remembered that they offered me around £50m in transfer budget and just under a million for wages and my guess was that RB would be something similar having already managed them this year.

In the end it was RB Leipzig that wanted me most as they offered me the job the next day having applied and so I was heading back to Leipzig after the 6 season career I did with them earlier this year although the circumstances are much different.

The season had already started and I could see why the manager had been sacked as we were already out the cup and then lost a league game as well. I had a rough start as well to Bayern.

I took over with a couple of weeks of the transfer window still to go so I needed to work quickly. Luckily I was happy with most of the squad and it just needed some proper wingers brought in instead of the inside forwards we already had. I only bought three players in both windows with Kluivert and Cuisance already joined before me. Kluivert actually went straight out the door again after I joined as part of the deal for Under.

The record in Germany stands at 67 goals which is a good amount to go for considering there’s less games in the German league and I’m starting after the season has started.

My pick of player was Sørloth who was obviously already at the club. I did a player search for a striker and there was actually no one better than him interested in signing for the club so he is the best I can get at the moment.

RB were in the CWC in the summer so Sørloth had played 5 games when I joined and already scored twice so I needed him to score 68 goals for me before the end of the season.

That tricky start didn’t actually materialise as “FoxyBall” was far too good for Pep’s Tiki Taka and we smashed Bayern 3-0 although no goal for Sørloth.

As for Sørloth that game with Bayern was a blip as he started smashing the goals in very quickly and by the winter break he was over half way to the total with 36gls in 23 games under my management. If he could keep this up he would beat the record by a few goals.

By the end of April the goal rate had dropped and he had scored 60 by this point so he needed 9 more goals in 5 more games which was achievable until he got the dreaded 10 day injury which as we all know seems to always work out at missing 4 or 5 games even in a league like Germany with less games.

So that was how he ended the season as he didn’t play again and finished up on 60 goals of which 58 were scored for me meaning he was 9 away from the record. It was disappointing not to get the record done this season as for long spells of the season he looked very doable.

His attributes did grow over the season as well and this has left me with a decision because I could stick with Sørloth and hope he doesn’t begin his post 30 decline next season.

He does still look great at the moment.

Or waiting in the wings in Brian Brobbey who is a little off Sørloth’s ability at the moment but just with the few games he played at the end of the season his attributes started to grow quite quickly and he scored 5gls in the last 3 games as well.

The main difference is that Sørloth is quicker, slightly better in the air and more aggressive but sometimes players can decline quickly when they hit 30 so it’s whether he still looks that good after Xmas next season.

I have some thinking to do but for now thanks for reading.

Well done, I thought it might have been Leipzig you ended up. They seem to be a bit less cumbersome when it comes to hiring and firing.

Sørloth looks good, I've made the mistake of going for youth in my UK career, I probably should have gone for some experience but I just can't resist a good young striker!

Honestly I'd say keep with him, as this is the last stage it's not too bad to take an extra season. If he doesn't seem to be scoring at the same'/better pace by the time the winter break comes around, go to the the younger guy. Hopefully you can get his pace up a little and he looks just as good.

Damn! Oh well, I guess you can probably hook me up with a paddock pass for the F1?

At first I thought maybe there was a typo here, but on reflection, maybe it's not! 🤣

Tough choice - but I suspect you'll get the 67 whichever way you go. I'd probably go for Pace given the rest is pretty close, but yeah, strikers especially can lose a little on their birthdays...

You make some very good points, thanks.

What can I say 🤷‍♂️

I think you Aussie’s would call him a spunk.

I might not call him that personally, but I see where you're coming from!

Season 7 - RB Leipzig with Sørloth or Brobbey

The season started with a dilemma as I had to choose between my main man from last season Sørloth who is still looking great but he had a chance last season and didn’t hit the target and he could decline as the season goes on.

1C9B8943-85FA-4434-9A3C-C2BEE10BF67B.thumb.png.4b7374bc4e5ea4c0f0fd8b85b7c2a631.png

I could go with the young pretender Brobbey who isn’t quite as quick or as good in the air or at finishing than Sørloth but he is young and could still improve a little bit.

In terms of transfers I spent nearly £200m this season over the course of both windows. This was in part to improve the squad overall but I also had a couple of players in Olmo and Konate who wanted out in January so I didn’t stand in there way.

Getting Donnaruma on a free was very nice but my favourite transfer was reuniting with Japanese RB Sugwara who I bought at Brugge just before I then left for Ajax so I didn’t get a chance to really use him.

I decided that I would let Sørloth and Brobbey fight it out in the first few games with the player who impresses me most being the one that I then commit to for the season. They both did well at the start with Brobbey knocking in 3gls in the first couple of games and Sørloth similar.

Then the decision was made for me as Brobbey got injured and would miss a decent number of matches and so it was all on Sørloth to get the job done this season.

It was a shame for Brobbey as I’m sure he would have made a good attempt at the record this season but Sørloth had the chance to step in and didn’t disappoint during his spell on the sidelines so the die was cast for the season.

In my absence from Ajax they hadn’t exactly missed me as they retained the CL title that I won just before I left meaning we took them on in the ESC although we showed our pedigree by beating them.

I added the German Super Cup to the trophy cabinet as well.

That meant I needed to win the German Cup this season and I would have won every trophy that I have competed for during this save at least once. We were made to for the complete set by Frankfurt but we did get there in the end.

We didn’t do so well in the Champions League this season. We breezed through the group with only Juventus for any competition and then dispatched Atletico Madrid in the 1st KO round.

We came up against Liverpool in the quarter finals but having won the first leg 4-2 we threw it all away at Anfield as Josh Sargent scored a hat trick and we went out on away goals.

The league on the other hand was almost perfect with just one cheeky draw which came on the 19th September as we played out a 1-1 with Augsburg. Other than that we were faultless and although we no doubt rode our luck at times with late winners that rock solid defence and free scoring attack meant we hit 100pts for the season.

As soon as Brobbey was injured and it was fully on Sørloth he really found his form and by the winter break he had 40 goals in just 24 games. That meant he needed 28 more in the 2nd half of the season to hit the magic 68 goal total and take the record.

The second half of the season is always a bit trickier as he gets tired and there are less easy cup and European games. He also hit 31 in December and as @Scratchpredicted that lead to some decline in attributes with his pace, movement, stamina and shooting all going down although he still looks good.

In the end he did more than enough and added a few more goals onto the record as well with 72 his final total. That worked out as 1.5 GpG and had he done that in a league like England, Spain or France we would have been looking at around a 90 goal season.

That means I have completed all three stages of this challenge and have scored a combined 186gls to beat all three scoring records in Belgium, Holland and Germany.

656615980_germanics7.thumb.png.7ebf02ab37ee60c5c920b3f286e623d6.png

As I said above I have won all the trophies that I competed for with just the World Club Cup and European Conference being the only trophies I could win but as I haven’t actually entered either tournament with a team I have been managing I couldn’t have won them anyway.

The manager profile looks ok with just discipline and youth policy not green. I didn’t focus on youth in this save because it was all about instant results and building my reputation as quickly as possible to have a good crack in Germany at the tougher record so I used older players mostly. I have a habit of forgetting to fine players for sendings off etc so my discipline is usually low and it’s so,etching I should try and do more often I guess as it can benefit there hidden attributes.

I could carry on and try and beat Sørloth’s total in Germany but actually I’m happy to end it here as I have achieved everything I set out to so any more goals would just be icing on the cake. Also I will lose motivation if there is no chance of a player beating the record in that season and I have really enjoyed this challenge and save so I want to leave it on a high rather than being bored with the whole thing.

Thanks for all the comments and to everyone who has read these updates.
