Career AJ creates a Rangers legend

A bit of background I’m a massive Glasgow Rangers fan, had a season ticket for 20 years of my life. I was brought up supporting my team, so much so, I was named after the legend of this challenge. 

The club record goal scorer, is the one and only Ally McCoist. Ally has an impressive record of 355 goals in 581 games for Rangers. This averages out at 0.61 GpG. 

My goal is to achieve this goal tally, at a better GpG ratio than Ally managed. I could do with some of Gascoigne’s creative genius mind you 😂

With the challenge in mind, my player selection must be Scottish, which is interesting as we don’t currently have a Scottish forward in the first team. 

A new signing? A youth prospect?

He’s a brilliant commentator, liked him in this seasons Europa League.

Now the obvious options were there, I could have went for a McBurnie, Shankland or Dykes. 

Instead I have taken a step into the unknown, opting for young up and comer Andrew Winter.

Andrew joins from Hamilton, who have a great reputation for developing young talents. Think McCarthy and McArthur. 

Have they also unearthed the man who will finally break McCoist’s goal record?

This is going to be a difficult challenge, but I’m excited for the journey that lies ahead. Besides, his mentor couldn’t be much better than this.

Season One 

Andrew Winter progressed a lot better than I expected this year. 

I’m content with a 21 goal return, considering his stats and lack of game time before he joined the club.

He also picked up an award in the process. 

Despite a league and league cup double, I was disappointed not to seal a domestic treble. Our luck of the draw in the Europa League qualifiers wasn’t favourable, and AC Milan were just too strong for us. 

In fairness I think this is the most I’ve ever tinkered with tactics, in one season. We played well in spells, but never really hammered a team. That is about to change! 

 

Transfers

We will favour an approach of developing our own young players, and signing Scottish talent. Gauld is hopefully going to be the ideal foil to Winter scoring more goals.

I’ve got faith in him, he also seems to score important goals. When we win by one goal margins, it’s usually him!

Yeah I get them kind of players myself, Liam Delap seems to be that person on my current save, so it’s a great attribute to have for these kind of challenges 😁
