Career Scratch Tries A Maybe 1KC / Assist 1KC [Season 9]

Recommended Posts

Just searched my whole DT for a screenshot and wasn’t there, he looked so awesome until he was 32 on mine. Maybe he’s not as good on the latest database as I’m sure I was on the older one on my DT.

Never heard of him. Looks very interesting

Yeah, he's alright - cheap, early 20s at the start, has some development in him - see Rich's comments, sometimes he turns out better than this apparently, but he was a good option at the beginning at the save. But now I have next level players coming through.

I haven’t got a screenshot anymore but he had 20 tackling and 18 passing on mine and loads of greens. @Rob introduced me to him, he’s a right gem on the game. Can be trained as an Ap or a more defence minded CM. Love him.

Hmm, that sounds quite a bit better than my lad. Maybe just down to the random PA. Or maybe it's just the way I trained him - he's turned out as an allrounder.

Season 6

As mentioned above, this season got off to a rocky start, with Cangiano unable to come up with an assist in the first 5 games.

He got cracking after that and the season was a good one, but it's fair to say it wasn't as good as last year. The same goes for Scamacca and indeed the whole team. There were definitely moments when we felt sluggish.

I'm not sure why - maybe because we had too much change with youngsters coming in; maybe because we didn't have enough change; or maybe it was just down to them not really getting a break, thanks to the CWC.

Anyway, we motored on and it ended up a good season, just not as good as I was expecting.

We sold some pretty good players to clear up space for the blossoming youngsters. Henrique went as discussed in a separate update above. Arrey-Mbi had been a starting CD. Cassata had been a starting CM. Zirkzee was useless.

The most curious case was that of Nketiah. We signed him on a free after Arsenal released him, gave him 2 years as a sub and one out on loan and then sold him back to Arsenal for £39.5M. You'd think that we'd come out on top in that transaction, but apparently the Arsenal supporters thought it was a coup to capture him.

Comparison To FMM20 Career

At the same point in my career from last year, remembering they were in an easier league (Scotland) and that Unuvar was a lot younger than Scamacca (and he had ITN goals from season 4 onwards):

  • Unuvar had 469 goals

  • Vignato had 412 assists

Not sure what the point of this section is, apart from I'm interested in the comparison.

Final Thoughts

All in all, a decent season, just a little disappointing that we were so sluggish at times. They did play well for much of the season though, and we'll hope to be more consistent next season.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah, i do a lot of reading, not much playing (work gets in the way - although having the ability to play a decent version on mobile is so much better when you think what we used to play on (laptop etc)), and even less posting.

Sometimes people want it handed to them on a plate 😀

Oh yeah, only 6 goals against, didn't notice that! I know last time I did a similar career I got it down to numbers like 2 or 3. I'm using a Defensive mentality and I have world class players, so we don't ship too many... :D

Yeah, he really seemed to be tired a lot this season. I'd say it was because of the CWC, but then again, the season before that was the Euros and after this season they went into the World Cup, so who knows. Maybe the CWC is different because your team actually plays in that? Anyway, just a feeling it was because he didn't get a break.

350+ assists after the first five years. Madness.

Well it was 6 seasons, but yes, it was madness... I really was hoping he'd match Vignato's 412 in the same timeframe...Crazy he's so far behind! :D

Course he only has 17 goals, so he should be getting them a little bit quicker than your lad... Still in awe of what you did there.

@Rich @Sarge Thanks for linking up the tactic etc fellas!

@Gapza69 Hope it works for you, but note, it's not going to help you win by itself. It's really only useful when you have a very very strong team. If you can dominate the opposition then the tactic will send the assists to the wing and the goals to the striker. But if you're evenly matched with the opposition it's just an average tactic.

356? That’s something I can achieve only after 8+ seasons. You’re mad Scratchy! Well done 👍

Thanks mate. But like I said to Rob, he's significantly behind where Vignato was last year! This tactic is just awesome for assists. It just sets everything up so the ball ends up out there getting crossed in so often.

Once again, we sold some top players to make room for the youngsters. Melegoni (one of our original starting CMs) left, along with Cistana (CD) and Ghiglione (DMR). I actually wanted to keep Varnier (CD), as he was an inspirational captain, but he wanted a new challenge and after talking him out of it once, he was determined to go.

Also worth noting, but not worth it's own section: for the first time in this save one of our Affiliates got promoted to Serie A. And they didn't terminate the affiliate deal. So I can get my youngsters top level experience any time I like!

Scamacca is cruising towards 1K, so we're all good on that front. Cangiano is doing pretty well as well, looking like it will probably take a total of 16 seasons to get him there - 9 more to go!

Thanks for reading.

Everything is going great there. I saw a blue exclamation mark at Cangiano there. What’s the problem with him?

I often do this whenever I completed a season with Musiala to see how close I am to achieve 2k compared to how you did with Unuvar.

The comparison section is great, mate. It's interesting plus you can see where you need to be.

Season 5 was incredible. Shane the two can't do it consistently. Even so, this is going really well. Keep it up!

There's no reason given for Cangiano's exclamation mark and it doesn't normally show up (only in team selection pop up), though it does appear to be showing there in the normal view (it's gone again now). He got it after I sold Varnier who was captain and beloved by all, so I guess he's upset about that.

He signed a new contract less than 6 months ago, so I'm waiting for that to be up so I can give him a new contract and clear that. Varnier was sold in late Jan, so it should be up soon.

Haha, glad to know the Unuvar career is useful to others besides myself. It's a bit hard to compare him and Scamacca though as Unuvar was so young at the start. And Scamacca was already 21 and ready to go. And Scamacca doesn't have any ITN goals. So for this career it's really only the Vignate/Cangiano comparison that makes sense. But I started with it, so it's just copy and paste now!

Thanks mate. Yeah it all clicked in Season 5. I think they'll get back to those numbers at some point, but it needs everything to line up (no injuries, settled team, not being overplayed, etc).

Not much happening this year. Only youth academy graduates coming in and only one player sold - but oh what a player he was. In fact, I think he deserves his own section...

Fare Thee Well Morten Thorsby

There is one departure I'm going to call out - Morten Thorsby:

genoa-s08-01.jpg.5a9da6b673dcf0caea53f4e7c3d0b7c4.jpg

I used to sign him a lot back in the day. He developed nicely and I could get great Creativity, Passing and Decisions from him, which is what I was looking for at the time. I lost track of him for a few years, until my last couple of careers. He's 24 at the start of the game, with a set PA, which is a bit average for the top clubs, but he's a good solid player that can play in many positions (with a bit of retraining) and do well for most sides:

genoa-s08-02.jpg.98a9dba9ca74dd72740dd80fcc69e98c.jpg

His importance however goes way beyond what he brings on the pitch. His Professionalism and Work Rate attributes (both hidden) are top notch and he generally has 3 or 4 bright green indicators for influence in the squad dynamics space.

His greatest power is that of mentor. He normally improves players' Teamwork. Most of the time it's normal mentoring: maybe +1 early on and +1 towards the end. Sometimes however, a young player will inherit his characteristics. I've seen Teamwork jump from 6 to 15 for example. I think they are getting all of his Work Rate (which is half of Teamwork). With so many of the top regens coming back with a very low Work Rate, he can really make a difference.

All round, he is a great choice for most squads. At 31 years old however, he'd started to decline and his influence on the squad was less than before (not bright greens anymore), so when an offer came in, it made sense to take it.

Fare thee well Morten. We'll meet again soon, I promise.

Thanks mate. I'm definitely buying him most of the time these days. Not quite good enough to be captain (the other players complain there are better choices) at a big club, but he ends up being a team leader anyway and improves those dynamics a lot.
