CHOOSING THE SQUAD

For this career, I choose to manage Adelaide United FC because they were the smallest club to manage in Australia. Founded in 2003, it is the only club playing in the A-League from the state of South Australia. In a league which is growing and developing, can Adelaide United still have an impact?

STADIUM & FACILITIES

On my 1st day, I did ask the board to improve the stadium & facilities. The board did agree to upgrade the clubs facilities from average to good quality. The stadium did not get upgraded & holds 16,500 supporters of which we can rely on a solid 12,000 fans weekly.

STAFF, FINANCES & TRAINING

The training regime was delegated over to my Assistant Manager Harry Kewell. The club staff room got many upgrades with more coaches &, at a better standard. The finances are secure but this season we did go over budget because of transfers in.

SQUAD

The squad underwent almost an entire transformation with a lot of either young inexperienced players or older ones. My transfers were done through the following filter:

20-30 year olds - No Injured Players
GK-handling/reflexes
DR/L-Tackling/Stamina
DC-Tackling/Heading/Positioning
DMC-Tackling/Stamina
MC-Passing/Stamina
AMR/L-Crossing/Dribbling/Pace
FC-Shooting/Aerial/Pace

TACTICS

I used my Attacking Tiki Taka Tactic for this career because it has won me a lot. We struggled a lot in the A-league and the stats suggest we had a great defence but poor attack. You can see this was the difference as 1st placed team scored 50 in contrast to our 31 goals!

THE RESULT

The result was both positive & very surprising with the club scrapping into 4th Place in the league as well as winning the A League Finals Series. The Stats suggest this was purely based on our amazing defence which was one of the best in the league. Our attack was woeful and lead to our form being inconsistent with 17x draws & loses from 26 matches.
