Career Albionic learns his ABCs - Letter E done!

Hello and welcome to a brand new career, involving the Alphabet and Scoring (title probably gave that away).

In this challenge, I will be taking a pair of strikers with a surname beginning with each letter of the alphabet, using them for half a season, and then throwing them in the bin and moving on to the next letter.

Each player's score will be their goals scored, with an additional multiplier:

If they come from a nation or club starting with the corresponding letter, I get to multiply their goals scored by 1.5x (eg Aguero from Argentina)

If both, then I get to multiply it by 2x

My aim by the end of this challenge is to get to 1000 points/goals as trust me some of these players are not the best, or just seeing the final total when everyone is added together.

(I have counted half a season as 25-30 games, its quite hard to calculate. This is about letters not numbers!)

But first, some guesses:

The Club

• They play in Red
• Their star man in Serbian

The Players (Good Luck 😂)

One of them plays in the Russian League, the other in Argentina

One of them comes from a country in the Middle East

One of them shares a name with a Real Madrid player

Obviously their surnames begin with A

A - Half Season number 1

Thanks @Rich @Rob and @broodje kip for the comments, they are much appreciated. Rich was indeed correct with the Club, we shall be managing one of my favourite clubs Ajax, as this is their star man

As for the Strikers, Broodje was incorrect, as i think no one was ever going to get these two:

Azmoun was the one I was excited to use, particularly as he idolised the legendary Ali Daei, while I bought Andrada as he provides me with a 2x multiplier, as he came from a club beginning with A (Aldosivi) and a nation (Argentina). Obviously neither are the greatest marksman known to man, but they are 100% better than what letter like Q will have in store! Also Federico Valverde is the Real Madrid player.

So how did they get on?

Despite Andrada looking like a league 1 standard player at best, he somehow outperformed Azmoun, who just was not very good for me. Admittedly the squad isn't great yet, and this was the champions league draw.

(Also, I played them for 26 games total, there were injuries that I forgot to screenshot)

So, the total scores at the moment:

Not the best, but I need 38.5 points per letter to reach 1000, so not the worst either. I am still figuring out tactics, and so scores will hopefully increase.

Now, players for B:

• The first one is on loan from a premier league club
• He has a champions league medal
• The second one has played 7 times for Brazil, scoring twice
• He has recently moved back to South America from an Italian giant

Barbosa for the brazil player I think, but the other one is stumping me for the moment. Looks like a really interesting career! Shame you couldn't grab someone from Azerbaijan or Armenia for the other A!

He does not I believe, as he was at palace when they won it and he didn't feature enough.

Brilliant score that. Haven’t heard of the Iranian Messi for a while but I think the last time I did he was doing great for Zenit

He has scored 45 goals in 64 games for them, and apparently is linked with a transfer to Milan, so he must be doing something well 

B - Half Season number 2

So well done @hhooo for guessing Barbosa! I liked the look of these two much better than the first two, with Brewster having 17 shooting despite not scoring all year for Sheffield United🤷‍♂️..

So how did they get on?

Well Brewster was by far the best so far, scoring 20 goals including 8 in the Europa League. Barbosa was the biggest disappointment so far, only scoring 9 goals, as he had one of those frustrating injuries where he is out for a few weeks but his stats plummet. He also kept getting the assists, not the goals😡.

As for the team, the season was a success:

The hardest challenge was PSG in the Semi, but Brewster turned into prime Ronaldo in the second leg:

Bornauw was immense all season, absolute bargain as well, highly recommend!

However, the underwhelming scores and lack of bonus leaves us with:

A total of 73/1000 for the first season, not the best but the squad will only improve, as (hopefully) will the goalscorers.

Here are the clues for the players beginning with C :

• One of them is an Argentina marksman currently plying his trade in La Liga
• He once spent a season on loan at a London club
• The other is a Chilean who played one game for Mainz 05
• He has played 24 times for Chile, scoring 4 goals

Quite disappointing from Barbosa there. Let’s hope the next guy can do a lot better than that. Brewster is impressive though!

Cheers mate, he looked like he should have been good in this version, yet got outscored by a man who has scored 13 goals in 109 appearances ever 😂

C - Half season Number 3

Our players with surnames beginning with C are:

Jon Calleri, scorer of 1 goal in 14 games for West Ham, including a dreadful missed rabona which I can't find any clips of, and Nico Castillo, a chilean from Club America (double points!!).

So how did they get on?

Well, my luck with the Champions League draws was still phenomenal

I feel sorry for Plzen

And one small injury

But otherwise, things were looking up.

The tactic has finally clicked! 28 goals from 29 games was very good from Calleri, possibly our best striker yet in terms of attributes, while Castillo was bought more for the double points more than anything else.

So, that leaves us with:

(Yes I am counting Osasuna and beginning with C, don't shout at me)

So our points have more than doubled from just that one half season, a very good result.

Now for D, there are very few (good) clubs (sorry Dagenham and Redbridge) or countries beginning with D, so here are the clues

• Our first player has already featured in a goalscoring challenge involving Ajax on Vibe this year
• His first name is similar to an ex Manchester United winger
• Our second player has been playing for his country at the Euros
• He is in my team in FMM 21 Ultimate team, having come from a wonderkid pack

D - Half Season number 4

Welcome back, here are our players:

Mikkel Damsgaard, the danish wonderkid, and Nany Dimata, both of which look decent if not World Class. as previously mention there are a dearth of players beginning with D, particularly those who are from a nation or club beginning with D, or any good. 

Dimata got one injury at an annoying time

And my maths was dreadful, leading to only 26 games played

So not bad in goals to games terms, Damsgaard did better than expected considering he only had 12 for shooting.

Competitions

So after being battered by Bayern and Barca back in the group stage, we set off to be the next Sevilla and got pipped by Tottenham in the Semi, despite being the better team:

However, happily Spurs did a Spurs and bottled the final:

Best Performers

Tadic is sadly beginning to age, and Klaiber did well despite looking like a bench warmer in league one.

Transfers

Onana was whining, and @Rob/ @Rich's favourite child/midfielder came in. Dragi came in as a possible option, until I realised he was awful, which took 5 seconds of a game.

Scores so far

So the second best half season so far, was never going to match King Rabona for goals either.

The next two

• One of them is a frenchman who has spent some time in Scotland
• Brendan Rogers likes him
• The other is 1.88m tall
• He played 21 games in League one for Fleetwood this season, scoring twice

I can’t find anyone on loan from Leeds at Fleetwood that isn’t Ryan Edmonson, so you must be right @Dai_ 😂

E - Half Season number 5

We are back with the two players already correctly predicted, and they are:

So Edmondson and Edouard were the chosen 2, and 1 of them definitely looked better than the other and played a lot better than the other (note the screenshots are at the end, forgot to get them at the start). Edouard was someone who has always looked decent attribute wise but never at the highest level, while Edmondson was a punt on an english bloke to get the bonus😂

Here is how they got on

As you can see Edouard was a lot better, Edmondson didn't score for about 9 games (incidentally when the message about him learning dutch came through).

They started well

and this saved Edmondson's goal tally a bit

So not quite reaching the heights of a couple of seasons ago, but still solid enough

A 40 point half season, not the worst, not the best, considering Calleri did better by himself.

So the players beginning with F:

• They both have the nation Bonus
• Our first player is currently playing at a club promoted from the championship this year
• He started off playing for my favourite club ( I had no clue!)
• Our second player was wanted by Liverpool who offered 60mn, yet signed for a spanish club a year later at a much lower price
• He is a world cup winner
