End of Season 7 Review

End of Season Review

A change of tactic in the New Year to something from my TTR days seemed to really pay off. Playing a 4-2-2-2 seemed to really suit the team, just need to ensure I keep an eye on the wingers as I’ve only really got 3 in total. Just need to work out what CM role combo works best for us. The double RPs seemed to work really well against Man City in the League Cup semi second leg, but then hasn’t worked since. I also don’t like the idea of having to players with essentially a free role in the middle of the park.

Again, we seemed to struggle against the teams below us in the league but were fine against the teams above us. I didn’t use the term “bigger” as we saw last year Tottenham got relegated and this season saw Arsenal go down this year.

I was hoping to get another season of battle against relegation, but my board seem to have gotten ahead of themselves and want mid-table as a minimum. A victim of my own success I guess.

Again the board have upped their expectations, wanting European qualification.

We also got a new 30,000 seater stadium which we move into just before the new season starts. So cash will be flowing in nicely!

Looking at the players, the only ones who still aren’t maxed out are the older ones who are declining, a couple who have never gotten out of the reserves and/or have been injured and so dropped some attribute points. So I’ll see if I can push them to gain the points in more important areas than where they’ve lost them…

Thanks. We seem to have a really struggle against "lower quality" teams. But seem really up for games against the "bigger" ones.
Plus we seem to have some red lines appearing on the relationship screen on the tactics... mainly Dyson and or Akel Wright causing issues I think...

End of Season 8 Review

This season I really struggled to get through, I got up to about October then just couldn’t be bothered to play. I’d play one game then get annoyed or distracted by something else and not pick the game up again for a few days/week.

Plus my tactics seemed to be totally useless this season around about halfway through, I’ve spent a lot of time watch youtube videos of other tactics and had a great discussion with @DanEnglish watching over some highlights of my games, but I ran into the problem of the saved matches not aligning with the game I played.

But I powered through and with FMM22 coming out in just over a month I’ve got two seasons to get through. Fingers crossed I can make it in time!

Yes, I totally FM'd the final... But to be honest that's how most of my games against bigger clubs go. I generally get a fair share of possession but they totally dominate in terms of shots, we just somehow take our chances. Saying that, if they get to run at the GK or last man, they generally score where as we don't.

 

End of Season Review

What a result in Europe! The group stage seemed fairly easy and I think all the "bigger" clubs knocked each other out so I had a fairly easy run to the final.

I had to make some tactical tweaks mid-season, essentially just changing a few roles in midfield to try and the tactic change seemed to improve the results slightly. I then changed to a 4-1-2-2-1 towards the end of the season and again that seemed to improve results.

My strikers really don’t play well on their own up front, but that’s probably because no one is any good at crossing… so they’re not getting any service. The balls all have to be played along the ground, which again is tough as none of the midfield are particularly creative.

We seem to be able to score from corners at the near post fairly consistently so that’s actually where the majority of the goals come from. But once players start to get injured we start to struggle. This season we had some of the longest injuries (a month) I’ve had. So I know I’ve been lucky. But damn it! When one of your two good CDs, one of your 3 wide players plus your “best” striker are all injured at the same time it’s annoying!

 

Anyway, on to season 9, the penultimate season!

Wow. I hadn't looked at your players' attributes when we were talking before. They are awful. How you've managed to get them into the Premier League and keep them from getting relegated (let alone finishing 10th - EDIT: 7th?!?!) is a near miracle 👍

Yeah, this is why it's been even more of a struggle than just getting a good tactic. I'm sure if I had, well Premiership level players, then I'd have less issues. But I don't I have an mid-table ageing Vanarama National North quality side, in the Premier League and Europe now...

You've done massively well to get to the this point, especially those Carabaou and Euro cups, and remarkably consistent in moving forwards, but it's down to inching forwards now. You have the hardest part in front of you, but I think you can go all the way with enough persistence. I understand why it might be difficult to get enthusiasm at some points. This is like a long distance marathon or something!

End of Season 9

The announcements for the FM22 Mobile have really made me want to get this challenge completed ASAP, it was still a struggle though. I’ve no idea why it seems to take so long to play these games. I don’t have to do transfers and it’s really only just picking the best players (I hardly do any squad rotation as the non-best XI are quite frankly rubbish). I think I just agonise over every mistake and try to tweak tactics a lot, roles and the instructions and then see if it makes a difference, but it really shouldn’t take as long as it does.

But I was pretty settled on my 4-2-2-2 for the first half of the season and then at home against “lesser” teams and 4-1-2-2-1 away and when we were not favourites (plus when we had injuries to a striker).

Plus Potts seemed to do alright for himself; scooping up player of the year, bagging the striker position in the team of the year (which is weird as he’s been playing as a left-sided IF all season) and Euro Cup player of the season too!

 

Jones also made the top 3 scorers for the Premier League for the season as well.

End of Season Review

We had a pretty damn good season we were in the European places pretty much the entire season, just unable to break through to the top 4. Which is annoying as looking at the final tables, there was only a couple of games in it!

I’ve had a weird situation where I’ve renewed contracts and then it doesn’t seem to change the squad status of the player afterwards. Not sure if that’s causing issues or not in terms of squad morale/relationships/hierarchy…

I really want to win the FA Cup this next season, I’m probably going to prioritise it over the league games that are near it.

I’d love to win the Euro Cup as well, we were very fortunate with the group stage this season, I can’t see it being that easy next season, but the Sevilla showed us up in that first game and losing on away goals after winning our home leg was bittersweet.

Last season to go now and I’ll see how much I can improve on our final league position, probably not much as everyone else is obviously strengthening and replacing people when we aren’t. I think it’s helpful that most of the bigger teams have been relegated at some point so the AI is obviously helping as much as it can do with the horrible team building, weirdly it’s the current “mid to bottom table” teams we struggle against more, the likes of Everton/Southampton/Brighton/Bournemouth.

Currently the stars have aligned and at the end of January I'm 2nd in the league, but City are running away with it.

I really want to win the fa cup, more than the league.

I've no idea what's going on, other than I'm using better tactics (even though they're the same as I was using a few seasons ago) or my players have just all clicked at the same time.

The Lazio games were just strange a 1-4 win away and a 3-0 at home... I think the ai team building is just broken. I don't have any other leagues loaded, so that might be causing issues outside of England.

End of Season 10

So it’s all over! 10 seasons with a Vanarama National North side… I have definitely had some high points and low points. There was a stage where I just couldn’t seem to get my team organised. I’d recommend anyone who wants to try this challenge to do it slowly, and not try and rush it. There is so much tactical tweaking you need to know. Also, ensure that you have the biggest squad possible (or at least the youngest) running out of people who can play a position is infuriating and means you have to try and work out a tactic which isn’t ideal. In a normal save, you’d just go out and buy a new left winger for example.

I’d recommend you train up your reserves/youth squad to play multiple positions as soon as you can, full backs who can play in CD or wingers is a definite. Along with people who can play on either wing or up the spine (CD/CDM/CM/AM/ST or any combination of those positions).

I didn’t win coach of the year, but I did get 3^rd place behind Guardiola who was still at City (and retired in the summer) and Eddie Howe.

Potts once again was best player in Euro Cup and won English Player’s Player of the year (again), but only managed second place for Player of the Year but got into the team of the year again, this time as a left sided winger/IF. He also got the Euro Cup golden boot this year.

End of Season Review

Well what a roller coaster of a season that was! We seemed to hit the ground running, with Potts, Finn and Jones smashing in goals in the first half of the season. Then we got our usual mid-season slump, but it wasn’t as bad this year for some reason, might have just been the fixtures were easier or something. The second half of the season was a bit slower, I was having to change to a balanced mentality (from attacking) and time waste in the last 10ish minutes of games to ensure I scraped out that 1-0 win, but it’s how you get points it doesn’t have to be pretty just a win right!

Tactically I didn’t change anything at all, I started off the season using my 4-2-2-2 at home and 4-1-2-2-1 away, but then as the home games became more difficult in Europe and in the cups I just started using it all the time.

Potts was scoring penalties for fun and Jones from corners is lethal, weirdly out-swingers rather than in-swingers, to the near post with Potts marking the ‘keeper.

The Euro Cup semi-final was insane, it was proper end to end stuff and then the final we completely bossed Leipzig for most of the game.

For the league, Man City took an early lead and just didn’t give up all season.

But I am gutted I didn't get to win the FA Cup this year, but with use progressing in Europe so far and then being 2nd in the league since the Jan, it was kind of "nice to have" not essential.
