Career SD Tarazona- My Philosophy

CHOOSING THIS CLUB

I chose SD Tarazona because they are the smallest club you can manage in Spain. They were founded in 1969 & have always held a low status in Spanish football. Hopefully my philosophy & system can steer this club in the right direction.

STADIUM & FACILITIES

On my first day in charge at the club, I asked the board to improve the Facilities & Stadium. The board did improve the facilities from a Poor standard to Basic Standard. The stadium remained the lowest at this level with a capacity of 800.

STAFF, FINANCES & TRAINING

The training regime was delegated to my assistant manager Jon Gorrotxategi. The staff room was fully filled up on joining the club but were all bronze standard. The finances were OK but over the wage budget due to the squad improvement required.

SQUAD

As you can see below, there were a lot of players bought in & out of the club. Almost the entire squad required improving for this level apart from 2/3 players. Most players out were released to give us immediate funds.

TACTICS

I used my Attacking Tiki Taka Tactic for this career as it has proved to be very successful. The system worked well, if not a bit inconsistent due to other teams having more quality. That said, our very solid defence gave us a fighting chance within the season & kept us in the top half.

THE RESULT

The season with SD Tarazona finished successfully with us gaining promotion from the Segunda Division B2. The stats do not lie & we were highly inconsistent with our results, BUT our defence was world class, which meant we stayed in the top positions & reached the playoffs.  The playoffs were also challenging but we were good enough to scrape promotion - a superb achievement for a club this low.
