Started off with a bit of luck. Turned down a few Vanarama North and South jobs hoping for VNL and Sutton came along and offered me a job in league football from the off. I just need to stay up and I’ll be off to a solid start.

Nice!! Staying up shouldn't be a problem and if you get things ticking early you have time to possibly get to the playoffs. Have faith!

Season 1

After getting lucky in the job market and picking up a job in League 2 right away this season almost went perfectly. Strengthened the squad with free transfers and a couple of key loans and despite almost throwing it away in the Play off final, we got promotion. 

Tranmere had an awful run of form toward the end of the season but we couldn’t capitalise in that and had to settle for 4th place.

 

Team stats:

I’ve noticed that this version seems more realistic with goals coming from all over as opposed to just your main striker (1k will be interesting…) but that could just be my formation. I’ve gone with a standard set up to start and will get more adventurous as I get better players.

 

Manager stats:

 

One season in and in League 1 already. I’m happy with this start.

Season 2

Hit the ground running in this season. Timmy Abraham was an absolute beast averaging almost a goal a game. 
Half way through the season I tried a new formation and it was a total failure 😂 

Switched to previous one with a few tweaks and we finished strong. Just missing out on an automatic promotion spot, we scraped through via the playoffs with a dull 1-0 win in the final. Not that I’m complaining of course. 
 

 

Team stats:

Jonjo was a revelation in midfield and set piece king.  Harrop loved his playmaker role feeding Abraham.

 

Manager stats:

 

Only local rep and my squad is not good enough for the Championship but let’s see how much we get to spend. It’s wonderkid time…

Season 3

We started off all over the place here and I must have gone through about 6 different tactics of mine from years gone by but I was trying to force an advanced formation on a very average group of players. I went back to basics and settled on a 4141 (based off a 41221 but more defensive) and we went on a roll. 

Come Feb we were sitting in second place with the media doing their best to jinx us.

With 2 games to go we’d clung on.

Promotion was ours to throw away.

And we nearly did.

1 point from the last two games meant we finished in 4th place. 
Beat Millwall in the semis meaning we had to take on our bogey team Palace at Wembley. 

It was a rough one for the fans to watch but we somehow managed to win on penalties. 

This was unexpected to say the least and we are way underprepared for the Premiership but I’m hoping the board will finally back me with some money. They’ve been tight and never agree to even upgrading our training ground.

 

Transfers:

Some good names with experience in there which helped us. And I even managed to find a couple of regene who didn’t need work permits. 

I’m hoping Sergio ‘The Monobrow’ Machin is a regen of someone good as he’s brand new to the game and 23. He just needs to learn how to shout. 

 

And The Fonz looks decent if I can get his stamina up.

Timmy was still decent in the Championship but his poor movement meant he struggled at times.

And here we are. In the Prem after three seasons. I am expecting to be hammered in every game so avoid relegation is my only aim here.

I can't claim to be psychic. Its what I was given when I was practicing this challenge last week on the previous version in my first season in the big time. Otherwise, I wouldn't of had a clue. 🤣

Season 4

This went better than expected. 
Started really strongly and managed to hang on in there when the going got tough. The big teams beat me consistently but can’t complain with a 4th place finish at all. 

Im playing quite defensively with a lone striker so goals are hard to come by but we’re pretty tight at the back. 

Even managed a bit of silverware along the way…

Champions League football awaits us. I have a lot of strengthening to do and a modest budget of £75m this year. Going to be scouting extensively this preseason. 
 

Transfers:

Some good squad players in there but no one who isn’t replaceable. 

Pinola looks a tasty wonderkid, I’m just trying to retrain him to play in the left wing which he’s not keen on.

Nothing to shout about here.
 

Manager stats:

 

We have a very average squad doing wonderful things. Let’s hope it wasn’t a one off. 
 

Champions League football - bring it on.

Season 5

Tough season this one. My squad wasn’t big enough and when the inevitable injuries came m, we crumbled. Managed to hang on for a 4th place finish again but we really didn’t deserve it. 

Picked up a couple of trophies though

 

Champions league was a baptism of fire being drawn in a group with Barca but we managed to get past the group stage 

Until we were slightly FMMd in the 1/4 finals with Alison giving a MOTM performance for Liverpool. It wasn’t to be.

 

I blame myself though. I had 75m to spend and a lot of positions that needed strengthening. But instead of being clever in the transfer market I spent £50m on a young striker who was hit and miss, and the remaining £25m on a solid CB.

Charles DK was a steal for 3.1m however, loving his SS role. 

I played around with tactics too much as i needed to change formation in order to fit in a couple of star performers but we’re settled now. I think.

Manager stats:

Not much change here but I’m hoping this is the season we achieve greatness. I’ve served 5 years so just need the rep now. 
The team needs strengthening still and we have a couple of problem children so get rid of but we’ve got money to spend now.

Big gamble spending so much on "big" players. Sometimes it pays off. Not this time by the looks. Finishing where you have and winning a few trophies is still impressive. Don't be too hard on yourself there.

Won't be long until you win the League and conquer Europe.
