Career Probably The Best League In The World - Poland?! S13

Hello there! 

I'm going to start this season with another attempt at a long-term challenge that i failed (but enjoyed) last year:

Last year i went to Ireland, the land of my father's birth, and won 6 champions leagues with Shelbourne and Bohemians on the way to dragging Ireland up from 43rd to 9th.

That was great fun, but just impossible (for me) to get much further than i got. 

So this year, i want to actually get to the top, so i thought I'll start a little higher... 

Uh.... not many options there. Maybe next year's will have the Albanian Premier League, but not this time...

And actually, there's quite a few unavailable - you quickly get to the cusp of the top 10:

So i think that leaves us with...

Poland - I'm actually a great friend of the Poles, with one of my work colleagues being a Polak, and even a successful challenge completed there with Legia Warsaw on FMM19 (epic DT). 

Denmark - otherwise known as Brentford's European Colony, of course I'd be happy to build things here

Scotland - ah, with my adventures on the Goal a Mile challenge, I've had many a good night in Scotland, so another great option. 

or Greece or Turkey, which would both be interesting for sure, if that's what the people want

In all of these countries, I'm going to have to take an outsider to the top table, and hope that the local "big boys" can fend for themselves and get some points for the country... unless i should start at the big clubs and try to make them massive... 🤔

 

So what do you think? 

Poland, Denmark, Scotland, Greece or Turkey?

I would enjoy to see Greece especially if you shithouse your way to success Euro 2004 style. Otherwise Poland or Denmark are other leagues we don’t see much of here so those would be good as well.

Looking forward to this Mr Tree, I would second Greece as I haven't seen many careers based there... All the others could be pretty good too though!

I know it’s not an option but I second Northern Ireland. For me it’s the most enjoyable league to manage in FMM and has been for a few years now.

Greece would be my second choice. Looking forward to following whichever you choose.

Denmark or Scotland (if not using Celtic or Rangers) .. Scotland ahead of England would be satisfactory

Not Scotland, it's too easy
I say Denmark as the Danish league is fun, it's fairly short has a weird league split at the end and annoyingly hard to keep players as it seems that even though the clubs have money you don't seem to get big budgets (using my Ticket to Ride Copenhagen stint as proof).

But us worldies used Turkey in the Vibe World Cup last game and it seemed like a fun league too.

Scotland could be a good choice as Celtic and Rangers should be able to hold their own so you could go with Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Hearts or Hibs.

I think Greece has had one more vote than Poland overall, but... the Polish league is fully licensed, while the Greek league is full of silly names and fake badges (and i don't care enough to find logo downloads and name fixes). Plus Poland is lower down... Many thanks for all the comments, highly appreciated, and please bear in mind that democracy is inherently flawed and i shall attempt to rule as a benevolent dictator

Btw, i just went to update my profile but instead of being able to Search for my new club, i had an incredibly long list of radio buttons. I found Poland but there were only a few teams, none of whom are mine. Bit weird...?

Hello! There have been a couple of changes, apologies for that - let me explain...

1/ i have chosen to start with a different club after remembering to check the wonderkid list

so I'm going to...

because of...

He is well known, it would appear! 

Some drama there already...

(I've changed to polish zloty now for the currency in an effort to get acclimatised... it's about 5x pounds, so it's pretty easy to convert in your head if you want )

Fortunately i rejected the bid (upset), but we won the next game and he was immediately happy again, so i extended his contract!

 

2/ i hope noone minds but, i have a tactic that i use regularly and i know it "works", but i struggle to make effective changes...

So (maybe) at the start of each new club on the save, i will check which tactic has the most views (on Vibe), and I'll use it on my save, could be a useful test in a way! (hopefully my incompetence won't bring down the system!). We'll see how it goes! 

So for now, @LostHorizons's system will be my starting point... not too far off my own base, so hopefully it'll be alright!

 

Got a tiny transfer budget...

... so not much wiggle room, or interest in coming to Poland! It'll be an interesting test and a long road! 

Oh btw we are already in (and out of) Europe - my first competitive game was 0-4 at home to Feyenoord. They scored straight away, my first highlight clip in FMM22 - welcome to the game!

I appreciate you using my system, and I hope it brings you great success. Unfortunate what happened against feyenoord. I'd be more than happy to explain the adjustments I'd make in game.

No worries, I'll tinker with it and let you know. But the start has been good...

And bear in mind i wasn't able to make many changes to the squad i inherited:

Gutierrez had a broken leg, out for six months 🤦‍♂️

He's just come back though, and hopefully will help us for the second half of the season:

I lost away to Legia and Rakow after the first 10 games, but still, doing very nicely overall I'd say. Hoping to sell someone and build up some funds now...

Good luck mate, it's always tough to raise an entire league rather than just 1 team. Being able to choose which team to reject in transfer auctions now is real helpful. At least that wasn't a thing when I last did this in FMM20.

Achieve something like that, I guarantee you that'll be peak international management experience.

I achieved full shithousery with Ireland winning the Euros. 3 at the back, midfield diamond, 4 goals and only 1 non-penalty goal all tournament. This was couple years back before some of the Irish wonderkids were added to FM as well, so it was Sean Maguire and Scott Hogan all the way. I was so loud that someone checked up on me hahaha

What a pair of names there @Meow- Hogan made Brentford (and himself) a shitload of money with a purple patch a few years ago, never quite lived up to the hope or expectations... and Maguire, i liked him as youth potential, but he slowly became a run-of-the-mill injury-prone forward, who would ALWAYS time his fit spells to run rings around the bees - the little bastard!

Anyway Season 1 is in the books here. Ludicrously i didn't get an end-of-season squad overview screenshot, and then somehow i saved over last season already - out of practice, sorry! No-one got more than 20 goals i think, with midfielder Drygas probably ending up top scorer, he enjoyed popping up with a goal or two. I got a couple more loan midfielders in January, and sold one of my forwards for a million or so - i was still in red all season on the Board Confidence for finance, but they've increased my budgets in the second season (allowing me to upgrade facilities and staff!), so that shouldn't be a concern going forward...

We hit the front with 7 games to go:

And we went unbeaten after losing 3 in a row in November, coasting home with two games to spare:

All this was enough to keep young Kacper happy:

So now, let's see what we can do with a bit more flexibility to build the team... i sold my keeper too, for 20m zloty... i planned it before i knew they'd fix my finances in season 2, so when it came up to confirm i intended to say No, but pressed the wrong button! Oh well, he was decent but not irreplaceable.

Looks like a solid start . How are the reserves and affiliations in Poland ? I know very little the Skis how are the other clubs compared to yours ? Remember that was big problem last year in Ireland the AI clubs sucking in Europe

So having completed a full season with the tactic I must admit that it's not plug and play. I did a lot of tinkering from match to match.

Actually a slow start to the league in season 2, maybe not the best recruitment plus a lot of deterioration in my 30+ players from the original squad. 4 rounds of CL qualifiers made August pretty  hectic too, but worth it:

Inter, Ajax and Dinamo await in the group stage. 

I don't quite have the freetime of my carefree youth at the moment, so this will be a slow grind of a career - hopefully it won't read like that

The hectic start of the 22/23 season (before the Qatar World Cup) exposed my thin squad... i got a new striker last summer but let the previous backup go, so an injury left me short, and i didn't strengthen the wings sufficiently either (despite nabbing Trincao on loan from Wolves).

Those are my excuses anyway for the huge hole I've dug myself as of the start of the World Cup...

At least Europe went rather better, with wins in all my home games, this being my favourite:

Plus a win in Croatia, which helped me claim top spot and oust the holders, Ajax!

FC Bayern await, so not much hope there... will be some good points anyway (I've not checked yet how the other polish clubs got on)

Doing well in Europe so far big match vs Bayern maybe you could convince Lewandoski to join his home country league before hanging it up ..  Keep an eye on other clubs bet they doing better than Ireland ones that lost first games

If you nick a draw you can have extra points on the coefficient. Winning is a tall order, but somehow nicking a draw probably is possible.
