As the title suggests, I'll be attempting this challenge first on this years edition as I always do.

Season 1

 

It didn't take too long until clubs became available. A few in League One, which I applied for and failed to land for obvious reasons. A few more in League Two, mainly due to their managers being nabbed by the teams I failed to get the job with in League One. Then, a couple popped up in the National League. Only one really got my blood pumping. THE ONE.... So, I applied. And before to long.....

 

I am absolutely delighted. I'm not a Wrexham fan as such but I have an affiliation with them due to The Scarlets (formerly Llanelli) being the rugby team I support and a link being formed between the two about a decade ago to get more North Walians into rugby. The Scarlets even played a set number of games at the Racecourse every season. It doesn't happen so much these days but there is still an official link. Anywho, enough of the boring stuff. I'm.buzzing for this now and that's why.

They weren't in the best shape in the League but it was early November so plenty of time to have a go at getting promotion.

 

My only focus in this challenge is to get to the Premiership, ASAP. Meaning cup competitions will be of little importance for now.

Out of the FA Cup at the 3rd round stage. 🤷‍♂️

I said little importance but I'm not going to ignore it if we manage to win something. 🤣

Now for the League. I managed to strengthen the squad as well as possible and with those additions came success:

Grimsby were top of the League for ages so I'm a little sad that they didn't follow me up to the football league. Ah well. Mission accomplished. 

 

Top Performers:

I can't recommend Greg Olley enough. He plays for Gateshead and I used him in the challenge last year. His FK taking is unreal and such a weapon in the lower League's. I only signed him late on in the January window and for just 40k. Bargain!

 

 

An overwhelming success. Hope it continues like that. I'm just glad I used my spare time after my last challenge on FMM21 to test out a tactic for this very challenge and it has crossed over brilliantly. 🙌

Cheers, pal. In the early seasons its not so much about the players you can sign but getting a working tactic. That's what I've found anyway.

Season 2

 

I knew my tactic was effective so I just upgraded certain positions. Mostly free transfers. I had trouble getting players to join on loan. They weren't interested or as I'm finding this year most teams want 100% of wages paid. Could get away with paying very little last year.

 

In the Cup competitions I fielded weaker teams as its not a priority yet.

Gave them a game, at least. That Burnley squad has changed quite a bit. They signed some really good players.

 

Took Coventry to extra time. An even game against a team two League's higher. Encouraging. 

 

Made it all the way to the Final of the Papa John's. We're the better team too. Ah well. I'll have another go at this one next season. 

 

As for the League. Started off a bit rocky but from December onwards we were quite dominant.

League One awaits.

I'll hopefully add a few quality free agents to the squad next season. I've noticed a few players contracts expiring so I'll keep an eye on them. Expecting a tougher test in League One.

Cheers. Yeah, Mullin is top notch at this level. Need to find him a partner that can contribute and we'll be scoring even more. Although, he's less effective in League One so he's mainly used as a sub now.

Season 3

 

I really struggled to sign centre half's during the summer. Everywhere else in the team was solid but I couldn't get any decent CD's on loan or freebies. I just hope it doesn't cost us.

 

We continued our early exits out of the big Cup competitions. I am slightly disappointed we couldn't get a little further as this tactic had been quite the giant killer on last years version of the game.

We did go one further than last season in the Pizza Trophy though.

 

As for the League....

Conceded more goals than I would have liked but it's not really that important. Obviously my CD's were good enough. Or my attack was better anyway. 🤣

Surely the Championship will test us? I'm going to spend a bit of time recruiting this season. The difference in quality of opposition is massive now.
