Career Geordiekrispy's LWTTT [S6 - Complete]

So... New game new career.

As I've got no badges, no idea what tactics work, how training has been tweaked etc. I thought it was a good time to start my "It's a long way to the top" career.

So here's the link to the challenge;

Pretty simple eh? We'll see...

And after holidaying (I checked there's no rules about not holidaying initially, but I'm happy to start again if it's decided as cheating @Scratch) with "Apply for all higher level jobs" turned on and also declaring interest to all insecure jobs along the way.

I finally get my big break!

With a decent enough offer and season expections too;

Now to investigate the squad...

edit: I'm actually interested if everyone who's also doing this challenge gets offered the same first job or not... @Dai_, @StuartM @MikeF

No. You don't all get offered the same. From experiences it's not always better to go with what's offered first either. Mike managed to get a League Two job. Which I've never been able to before. You can always get a Vanarama National team around November so it worth holding out a few weeks after the excitement of your first offer. The higher up you start the earlier you'll achieve superstar manager. It takes a minimum of five years at one club but I would never take a VNN or VNS job because it'll take one year longer than you need to.

As for holidaying. There's really no point. It doesn't save that much time in this challenge.

Ah cool, I did notice that Mike managed to get a League 2 job. I think my viewpoint isn't primarily to get the Superstar manager achievement as soon as possible, but also do a kind journeyman-ish save all the way up the leagues.

You say that, but it was definitely quicker holidaying a month that clicking continue repeatedly every few days. Obviously I won't holiday now I've got a job, but just to get the first job it seemed to make sense as you can set it to apply for all jobs that come up. And going in and declaring interest in the insecure jobs I think helped push some people out of the door quicker.

Yeah. The idea behind it is a journeyman save but it's also a challenge so the quicker the better. That's all.

Maybe it was quicker holidaying but once job become available it's not long before the snowball effect happens. Once a League two job comes up they nearly always poach a VN manager meaning you skip the North & South League's. But, as you said, there's fun in going the entire way from the bottom.

Best of luck anyway. I'll be following anyway.

Yeah there was definitely a snowball effect once some of the top jobs became available everyone kind of back filling from a lower league.

Good luck mate. I don't think there's any problem holidaying while you're not in a job, ie just speeding up when the jobs become available so you can actually start.

Just remember the 5 years at one club thing. I originally intended this to be a journeyman focused challenge, but accidentally picked the wrong measure for success (unlocking the superstar achievement). In hindsight I would have made it just reaching World Class reputation so you could jump around as much as you like.

Good luck, I'll be following with interest too!

The Eastbourne job didn't come up in the first round of moves on my save, Dartford, Chorley, Altrincham and Gloucester were the ones I got linked with.

Season 1

So first season is in the bag, and we managed to scrape through the playoffs!

Also managed to get joint top scorer (but was top after the playoffs).

Here's the transfers at the end of the season, I actually ended up renewing a lot of the contracts (mainly so I could generate some cash in the off season as they were rubbish, but we have got zero cash):

Screenshot_20211115-205457.thumb.png.b6303eb738c53b12c27b5044de5c930a.png

And the squad stats:

Screenshot_20211116-085523.thumb.png.d9235196346c7084c859dac5d997c306.png

Steven James is actually a Swedish CD and in the national team, but he hasn't broken into the team quite yet!

Season 2 is almost a complete change of first team squad so it'll be interesting to see how we go and if it's as compressed as the upper leagues due to the World Cup.

I've also managed to get up to my Silver coaching badge and was able to get rid of 1 staff member for free, so got in the legend Ryan Taylor! Hopefully he can help them with free kicks and getting them over the wall.

Haha fantastic! Well don't just stand there, get him his Gold badge. Sell all your players if you have to, to get that 50K, that will be the best money you spend. :D

Yeah, I like the odd save in the lower leagues, until I run into that! :D

Season 2 - Vanarama National League

Quick update for season 2 as it's completed now.

Here's my transfers for the season, as you can see it was a pretty comprehensive rebuild of the squad.

Spoiler

But it seems to do the job as we managed to win the league quite comfortably.

With Mellor running away with the top scorer award too:

And we managed to nab the FA Trophy too

Here's how the squad performed:

It also meant that we were classed as Rich so I spent the money getting the training up to scratch and sorting out the coaches so fingers crossed we can keep improving next season.

I'm starting to get offered some jobs now, but they were in the same league but I guess it means my reputation is starting to improve.

I'm having a fair few issues actually getting players to sign for me though as they want more wages than I can give them and tiny minimum fee release clauses. But I'm sure I'll work it out... or lose half my team before the end of the transfer window...
