Tactics Attacking 3-1-4-2 - Title With Newcastle 1st Season

Hey everyone!

On last seasons version, I made this tactic.

So, one of the very first things I did on this version was to check if it worked. Not only does it work, it's actually better.

Yes I'm Newcastle, yes they have loads of money. No, I haven't tested it anywhere else. I did this because they're my team and it was fun last time!

Apologies in advance, but I'm going to repeat some of the things on that post as they are still massively relevant.

General tips:

- At the start of the game, I always clear any staff members out who are less than the maximum I can get to the club.

- At the start of the game, I always arrange as many friendlies as possible, every 2/3 days to get the team used to the tactic and to build relationships quicker.

- Always ensure that every player is being trained for the role you intend to play them. If you can't see that in the training options, you'll firstly need to re-train their position then you'll see the option to match their position on the pitch.

- Throughout the season, I continually ask the board to improve the training facilities and youth facilities - to maximise the potential of every player throughout the season.

- Try to have 2 players for every position. I have a saved selection for Premier League games and a separate saved selection for any cup games. Rest your best players for the league.

Forgive me if they're all basic, but I figured they may be easily missed and I believe they all make a contribution to the overall game.

Players Required:

SK: Nothing out of the ordinary here. I have used the template searches for this role.
CD: Nothing out of the ordinary here. I have used the template searches for this role. However, I would say to make your left sided CB left footed and good at Aerial, Strength and Positioning - more on that below.
BPD: Nothing out of the ordinary here. I have used the template searches for this role.
WM: Whilst they are Wide Midfielders, my testing has shown that more traditional wingers (less positioning and tackling, more dribbling and crossing) work much better here. See below, the WMs get a lot of assists - so I would try to avoid Wing Back type players if you can.
BBM: Nothing out of the ordinary here. I have used the template searches for this role.
AP: Nothing out of the ordinary here. I have used the template searches for this role.
PFs: Pacy players have worked better here for me/ Pace, movement, shooting. 

INSTRUCTIONS

One addition this year was a Corner setup I saw on Facebook which gives protection against the counter and allows your CB to score a lot of goals:



Duffy managed to score 17 in the first season:



You'll see both strikers had plenty of goals here, and wingers & Box to Box mids get plenty of assists (hence the suggestion for winger types rather than Wing Backs):

We managed to win the league quite comfortably:

We also won the Carabao cup (using my second team for every game):

I've just started my 2nd season and made 5 signings to see how we far in Europe:

I'm now in the 2nd season so I can't go back, but my main team from memory was:

Onana, Duffy, Nianzou, Sule, Freuler, St Maximin, Herrera, Merino, Thauvin, Wilson & Calvert Lewin.

I'm only 7 games in to my 2nd season so the average ratings won't mean much and I can't go back to last seasons.

I don't tend to look at average ratings though to be fair, if I'm winning games and trophies then I could get the lowest averages and still not be fussed.

I tweaked this tactic for the lower league, because its not easy to find the right (and cheap) player to play as PF, so I changed the strikers to TF-P combo, also check the “work in to box”

After some good results the past year i decided to try this again this year with Bologna in Italy and Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

finished 3rd in both saves, but with Eintracht i took home even the Euro Cup.

End of season 2 update:

my first season without any summer transfers and only two winter transfers.

the reputation was on none so i wasn’t even their first option as coach.

after 2 seasons I can finally say this tactic is really good but when you have the right players to do so. My first season i brought FC Chambly from ligue 2 promoted to ligue 1 with only free players with poor stats. 2nd season had a great start in ligue 1 but once I started losing a match, I just couldnt win anymore which forced me to change tactics because I was at the bottom of the table.

Now got offered job at norwich and brought them from the bottom to mid table as they got the money to buy the right players for this tactic.

3 seasons using this now, I see the weakness is when going against defensive teams I always concede from the counter attack especially from the flanks. And AP seems ineffective, my AP never get good ratings

I also got the England job in this 3rd season, got beat in the semi-final of the Euros by Spain.

Have you followed the tips in the original post?

Things like training players to the exact roles in the tactic, training facilities, standard of coaches etc - all so so important.

Just finished the 4th season, ended up with a Quadruple at club level!

I'm going to sell off some of the more mature players as I have some really impressive younger players both bought (from constant scouting) and through the youth system, see how well we get on.

With England, we won the International League:

It's also the World Cup year this coming season. The England squad isn't fantastic, but fingers crossed for a good run!

I've also noticed that the corner tactic I've been using is far less effective, so I'm assuming some kind of patch has been released?

Use this setup. Working good.  Inacio stats + other cbs scored too when he was resting

 

Going very well in league but lost 4/6 games in champion league. Maybe need to play control or counter

Tried it again with Torino in my 3rd season. This is my lineup (Greenwood on loan).

Some great results, but sometimes struggling against smaller team, dominated games but opponent team scored on their first shot 😞

Won the league, much bad luck in the Italian Cup against Juventus (we deserved the final), impressive win at Old Trafford in EL, but at home we were smashed by the Red Devils.

 

Any suggestion when i’m up against bigger team? Sometimes we were up by 1,2,3 goals but didn’t take home the W.

Change shape to counter. I win champ league with ajax in season 2.

I've personally never changed shape but I guess I've had the luxury of being Newcastle with loads of money - thank you for the suggestion and contribution.

I had Belotti for 2 seasons and he's an absolute beast in this setup, so reliable.

I would definitely try to ensure you have more wingers in the MR/ML positions, rather than players who can play fullback - they seem to be in better attacking positions to push the opposition back.

Belotti in the third season was so good, scored 46 goals in 50 matches but then he had to stay out for 8 months 😫

i finished the fourth season, win both cups (italian cup 2-0 against Napoli after beating Juventus in semifinal and champions league beating Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern and Barcelona🥇), but in the league we had a lot of problems and we finished 5th 🤔

Now i’ll try to sell Singo and De la Vibora and replace them with more attacking wingers and give u some news soon!

Just finished my 5th season - what a season!

So, we won the League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Looking back, I've not lost in the league in over 2 seasons!

This was also World Cup year with England. The squad isn't great, but Harry Kane is still able to compete at the top end though, despite his age.

Check out this crazy semi-final against Germany - by far my best result in any of the FM versions I've ever played!!

Very good tactic, and with the corner routine you have it’s like a cheat code. My tallest centre half is on course to win the golden boot this season haha.

Worked very good for me. I won the french league and the champions league the first season with Monaco. For corner, i think you want a left footed taker for right corner and right footed taker for left corner.

Can't actually believe my eyes... This corner routine is actually a cheat code! If you've got a big lad with 18+ heading he's bound to win the golden boot with this tactic. Look at the state of my CB, and i'm only in february!
