Career The Àngel(o) of Lyon. My 1kc attempt. (A month into S9) ✔

Hello. After driving myself crazy trying to choose a player and then a team to use for this challenge I have finally settled on which ones I'm going to use.

I have started so many careers for this but always got bored for some reason. Mainly down to the choice of team, I think. So, I've just gone with something I think will keep me interested for long enough to get through it. 

Anyway, Here is the challenge. It's simple. Get one player to score 1000 goals in one epic career. 

 

The Player:

The highly spoken of Brazilian, Ângelo. Huge potential. Already has a decent starting point so I'm intrigued to see how good he can become and if I can get him to the magical 1k.

 

The Club:

As the title suggests. I'll be using Lyon. A team I've never used before. I like managing in France. PSG are the team I would usually choose but I wanted to get away from always using them.

 

Season 1

Operation "make a full Brazilian 11" was in full effect! Managed to offload the players I didn't want quite easily which funded this mission. Hopefully they all developed well in time for when I manage to get the National job.

There was one issue. Luiz Felipe was called up to the Italy squad early on so I'll have to replace him next season. 🤦‍♂️

All in all. A good window.

 

Competitions:

Won the domestic double but were bettered (should say battered) by PSG in the Euro Cup Final. Disappointing as I'd beaten Liverpool on the way to the Final so I thought I couldn't be touched.

Decent gains but his development plateaued from around April which is disappointing. His birthday being in December means there's not too long to wait until he starts improving again but it's still quite frustrating. 

A decent return. I'm not unhappy.

A good start and we'll look to kick on from here once his development kicks in again. I'm happy the tactic works as I'd only tested it, long term in China.

Season 2

So, the board gave me £51m to spend. Not great but I can work with it.

Ibanez comes in for Felipe after he declared for Italy. I double checked Ibanez because he can also play for Italy. Luckily, he's been capped by Brazil already.

Other than that I just added quality to try and improve my Cup/European team. The Brazilians can compete in the league but I don't think we're strong enough to challenge in Europe yet. We'll see.

 

Competitions:

Won Ligue 1 easily but as predicted we aren't quite good enough to challenge in Europe yet. Liverpool knocking us out even though we won the first leg 2-1 at home.

PSG beat us on pens in the French Cup. Even worse, we didn't even score one. 🤦‍♂️

Brazil:

After a poor showing in the winter World Cup the Brazil job became available. Now, I actually flirted with the idea of going through this without International management but I couldn't resist. I've never managed any other nation outside of Europe so it could be fun. I can always resign is it slows me down or gets on my nerves.

Ângelo has been called up to the squad twice before but not made his debut so I get that honour. 😉

We only played 3 friendlies during this season where he scored 5 goals.

 

Talking of the Winter World Cup. This was the Final....

 

Ângelo:

The kid suffered an injury this season. Nothing serious but enough to keep him off the pitch for a while.

After his birthday in December there was a bit of improvement but mid-late January came a message again that his development had plateaued, again! I'm gutted to be fair. This will amount to around 18 months of missed development. I'm concerned how much growth will be left after that. I'm going to carry on but can't say with full confidence that I'll carry this on if he doesn't improve much more. 🥺

An interesting season. Seems like so much happened. 🤣 As I said, I'm gutted his development has plateaued again, and for so long but I'll see what he looks like when we come out of that and if it's worth carrying on. I'm sort of glad I went with International management. Might make up for not going on to develop fully. Time will tell.

First of all congratulations..you know im one of your biggest fan..but this one mate makes me kinda disbelief..how a 17yo player who is not naturally striker scores 78 goals in the 5th championship of the world.. I mean it's not in Greece,China or Scotland and i believe its too difficult to score that amount of goals even he have the greatest team mates.. 😉

Great first couple of seasons under his belt, I'm sure even if he's plateaued again he can still improve a fait bit given his young age.

If you can get his finishing and pace up I reckon you're on to a winner, with 100 goals a season coming soon, especially being able to make use of all the international games too!

Great start mate, clear improvement between seasons and a lot more to come as well. The plateauing thing is really frustrating, but with the numbers he's getting already, you don't have much to worry about.

Season 3

Still looking to improve the "first team". ASM is a bit of a risky one but I love him and I'm sure he'll deliver. Lacroix is a player I've never used but he looks incredible so should sure us up at the back a bit. A few young Brazilians arrive also.

 

Competitions:

Obviously my attempts to get further in the Champions Cup failed. Bayern dumping us out on aggregate.

The loss in the League came against Lille who had a very average season. We got our revenge in the Cup final though.

 

International:

No matches of note this year. A few World Cup qualifiers and friendlies. 

Ângelo scored 15 goals in the 10 games he played.

 

Ângelo:

A couple of injuries this season. The first one happened very early so he was fully fit before the first game. The second was a minor one which kept him our for just two games.

I'm delighted he's started to develop properly. I can see big numbers coming. As long as I can keep him fit.

I'm going to have to keep improving the squad so I can get further in Europe which will mean more games for Ângelo.

Season 4

As suggested in my last update I intended on strengthening my European/Cup team. For the third season in a row I was given just £50m to spend so decoded to cash in on a fee players to fund this.

Sesko didn't really thrive as a backup for Ângelo. Keita, whilst never really playing for me improved immensely over a few loan spells and his value shot up. Easy money.

I know Cherki is a top quality wonderkid but his teamwork being seriously low was an issue so I used him in a deal to bring in Michael Olise from Palace because he "thrives in big matches". I used ASM (🥺) to bring in Dan James who I know can deliver when I need him to.

Leon Bailey, Ruben Neves and Diogo Costa also came in. Brilliant signings and hopefully we have enough quality to challenge for the Champions Cup now. We'll see shortly.

The quality of players added done the trick and finally, European success! 😁

A clean sweep!

 

International:

The first meaningful matches as manager of Brazil saw us lift the Copa America. Ângelo the star, of course.

The extra games this year meant that Ângelo scored a whopping 34 goals in 16 matches.

 

Ângelo:

A season with no injuries. Very happy with that. It means he looks like this now;

Finally a full season of development and he looks like a player that can do some real damage. And he did!

The only concern now, at just 20 I'm getting the "Unlikely to improve significantly" message. 😡

The tactic renders quite a few players within it obsolete. It does the job of feeding the main man relentlessly well. I take Ângelo off earlier in every game than I have other strikers whilst doing this challenge too as his stamina hasn't really improved enough yet.

The first two seasons the other strikers returns were good but because they only played limited parts of games their ratings didn't add up to much to get onto that "top Performers" screenshot. Even more so the latter two seasons as I went a bit too youthful and they didn't score all that many.

I haven't got him there yet and I'm not sure I can. He's at 16 at the minute. I've picked him up a bit older than i would usually.

Season 5

Signed some good youngsters. Some ready to step up into the first team already so I decided to cash in on a few players. Didn't really need to as last seasons triumph in the Champions Cup lead to a takeover and more importantly massive increase in funds. We had £271m to spend.

 

Competitions:

Added the World Club Championship to the trophy cabinet.

Lost in the final on the French Cup on penalties. Strange because we smashed PSG on every other occasion this season.

Still, a successful season.

 

International:

Only qualifiers and friendlies this season.

Ângelo scored 20 goals in his 9 games.

 

Ângelo:

He only suffered a minor injury this year, thankfully.

An improvement in pace and decisions and that's it. Seems this is what he'll look like for the duration of this challenge. Slightly disappointing I can't get him better but he's still good enough for what I need.

Over half way now. He's already scoring a stupid amount of goals but I can squeeze more out of him if I can keep him fit and he starts scoring in 1 on 1 situations. He's deadly with instinctive finishes but anything that requires a bit of thought He's useless. 😂

I don't know. I'm eager to get on with other challenges and already have ideas for teams and players. We'll see. If not now, I'll maybe come back to it.

He's retrained as a CF and played as a CF.
