You can use elite players to trade.This gives you lower cost.
I recommend sending your unimportant players to team a2 and adding them to the transfer list.
They sold faster, but you may need to sell below value.

There's not much you can do at the point of "Oh shit no one is bidding on my player"

You can try offering them out of loan, then switcheroo that into a full sale. It is more likely to work, but still no guarantee. Alternatively player swaps.

Prevention is better than cure though,  other clubs shouldn't not want your players in the first place. You've likely overpaid your players or took too long moving on deadwood. That's the root problem.
