Don’t expect many goals!

Now that the warning is out of the way, please see my tactic below. This is built purely to see how many passes I can get in a game and I only really use it on the international stage. 

You’re likely to be very tough to break down, but that takes a toll on your own goal threatening ability. You’re likely to get most of your goals from free kicks and corners.

 

I literally built this tactic for the only reason of having fun in the game, passing the ball around like crazy. I’ve uploaded four Scotland games for your perusal. I don’t think I could stick with it for a full domestic season personally but it might be a solid “secondary” tactic for someone to use against really weak teams or the really tough ones to frustrate them.

Well this is why I say don’t expect goals because the ball ain’t getting to him very often.

Actually, the Striker role is the only thing I’m not confident about. Not sure if any other role would see better results… he’s honestly there to just pick up what he can and have good aerial for corners.

I like this very much.

If your playing vs an opponent who is NOT using a DMC (e.g. an opposition 442 / 4231), then you could try moving the ST back into an AMC position + AM/AP role.

• Why? Typically without a DMC, an opposition MC would track back to mark your AMC, leaving one of your MCs completely free to receive passes with time + space. 

This wouldn’t work that well if they play with a DMC though (e.g. 41221) - as the opposition MC doesn’t need to drop back, as their DMC can cover our AMC instead.

Thats great advice and I can say this formation - 4141 with no striker 100% works as it's the exact formation I use, but with different player roles though.

Talking about different player roles, the MR/L aren’t that important to the total pass count it seems (40-70 passes each), AND it seems your opposition are putting in a few successful crosses ...

... if I’d use this (41410 variant) to hold a 1-0 lead in the last 20 minutes - then I’d use two [edit: Defensive Wingers / DWs] (or maybe WMs) to close down the opposition FBs + prevent those deep crosses (or worse, corners!) in the last few minutes of the game. That’s the theory anyway.

[Edit: DWs] are not as good for maximum passes (which is the OPs aim), but it is a nice tweak which gives a balance to lots of passes AND trying to prevent those opposition crosses.

Eh, if someone could figure out how to score and still keep the number of passes (1088) we see - that would be the most valuable find in the entire fmmvibe community.... Oh, dream on, dream on.
