For a long time now I have been using other peoples tactics and it been very good but now I would like to make my own tactic based on the players that I have instead of constantly shoe-horning players into tactics. So how or where do i start?

Cheers

I start with deciding how I want the team to play. What type of passing, and how to attack. The issue with making a tactic for those players is that you'll eventually have to change players. Then you're back to shoe-horning.

Is see. Thank you. It seems that some shoe-horning is enviable?

It terms of formations and roles, how do I deal with that? Is there a way of getting right?

You figure out how you want to play, the types of players that fit best, and then only get players that fit your system

I know what you mean. And sell the ones you know are not going to fit. When it comes to  a player form and reaching potiental, Is it best to always train a player in their natural role?

Cheers

Not necessarily, for example, Jude Bellingham can be trained into any role. You don't have to just train him as a CM the entire time.

That's a great point. Thank you.

I've finished my first season with crystal palace. I was jumping between 5-3-2 and a back four formation and tinkering the tactics and roles. But I have settled for this formation and tactic:-

But surprisingly I still managed to finish 7th and in Europe next season!!! The only player I signed Marcus Thuram for £33 mil. I even won manager of the year which was nice.

I would say less changing of the lineup. You want the players to develop relationship, that's what will really help your tactic.

Ok that's great advice. So do you think tactically the tactic is good enough?

Most any tactic can work if you have the right players and if they work together. But the better the relationships your players have the better they'll perform together.

That makes sense. Thanks for your advice. I will keep you updated.
