If he slips too much, I might bring him off the bench. Ie play a really strong winger crossing it to a faltering Sesko (so Sesko has more chances) and then play Campbell with a really strong TF (so Campbell has someone who can better finish the smaller number of crosses he puts in). 

I've thought about that a bit, but will hold off while they are still both doing well..

Three more seasons in the bag. Starting to get a little creaky, but also getting close.

Injuries

Cotton wool time now for the boys.

Sesko managed to get through all 3 seasons without a serious injury, but picked up a 3 week injury in the off season - once again while on ITN duty where I can't do anything to protect him.

Campbell's injury dramas weren't as bad as previous seasons, with only one injury, but it was a 2 month long one which is not ideal at this age.

Decline really starting to kick in now.

Sesko started season 17 looking like this:

And ended up looking like this at the end of season 19.

He's going into next season looking like this after the injury:

I don't have a screenshot of before season 17 for Campbell, but here he is at the end of that season (or look above for end of season 16 screenshot):

It's been a while since I've had players in decline (I normally finish saves before getting to that), but there is a very clear relationship between them performing well and slowing the decline. The post match points for a good performance slowly increase the bar, and if you can get it high enough, then when they take a hit it doesn't always mean a decline, it might just knock their bar back down to near the beginning.

 

Goals - Sesko

Sesko is slowing down, but still racking up massive numbers: 142 goals from 53 games; 142 goals from 57 games; and 129 goals from 56 games.

The days of him getting 6 or 7 goals in a game are long gone now, with him very rarely getting more than 3. He did get 5 in the UCL final for season 19 (see screenshot in results section), but that's a rarity these days. But it's also rare for him not to get at least 2 goals, which is enough to keep the numbers ticking over and to ward off the decline with all those 10 ratings.

 

Assists - Campbell

Campbell also slowing, but still racking up great numbers assist-wise: 80 assists from 56 games; 61 assists from 46 games; and 52 assists from 58 games.

As noted in a mini-update above, he reached the 1.5K mark in February, at which point I moved him to the bench and gave Sesko a better winger to help him score more. Campbell still comes off the bench every game, but his ratio is worse off as a result and he is more likely to decline more quickly now.

Final Thoughts

Campbell all done, Sesko only needing another 54 goals. Honestly, I thought it was going to be much harder than this. Should be able to be able to wrap this up next season.

Once I do, then I think I'll stop rather than play out the season, as I'm a little bored of this and I have one more thing I'd like to try before FMM23 drops.

Worst case - is there any risk of Sesko retiring before you hit final 54 / total 3k goals? You’re at July 15th, he’s still got 4 more years in his contract, so am guessing you should be fine … right … RIGHT?! 😧

The only trouble for those who love the goalscoring challenges is that if the 3k ceiling is well and truly smashed again... what will Rob raise it to for FMM23? Will it be like that Austin Powers scene? "1 million dollars..."

Don't try to scare me! Damn, too late...

As long as he doesn't retire in the offseason (unlikely), he should probably do it next season without problem, If it was going to take much longer I'd be more worried.

I guess that means an 11 month injury is just around the corner! 🤣

LoL, yeah, goodness knows what he will set next year. I don't think much more is possible. But who knows with 23, maybe it will all change and we'll be luck to make 1K again.

Update - Season 20

Well it's over. The question is did he make to 3K? Or did he suddenly retire? 

 

The answer:

That's right... the day before New Years Eve 2040, Sesko made it to 3022 career goals, 3000 of which came under my management at Celtic. Job done.

Hogmanay is huge in Scotland, but I've never really been able to enjoy it cause I've been planning the January transfer window. Given the 3K is complete, I decided to call it quits and to go out and enjoy it fully this year. 

 

For the record, Campbell finished on 1514 assists:

Thanks! It was Balanced all the way through. I don't think I used anything else to be honest. The thing is when you have a super strong team, they will be creating a lot of chances regardless of that setting.

If you set it to any more attacking the other players get too many goals, any less and you're not scoring as many as you could. I probably should have experimented with Control to be honest, but once I was in the groove I just left it.

Thanks mate, yeah it was crazy, the corner tactic really helped and Scotland is the place for this sort of thing. 

The board were a little pissed that I made £1.3B profit. They said if I'd used that money to buy Neymar and KDB etc, then they could have made £10B in marketing profits. I pointed to the trophy cabinet and they complained they'd had to spend 50K building a bigger one, Just can't make some people happy.
