Chat Any tips for building a world class team in a small league?

It's my first time to manage a danish team. My goal is to bring the team to the top of Europe, and make the danish league a top-5 league in Europe. However I found it quite difficult.

  1. My best players keep saying they want to join bigger teams, and they refuse to renew contracts.
  2. The selling values of my players are very low, like 5-8M for a 4.5-star defender with so many green light attributes.
  3. I have nowhere to spend my cash even if I sell my players, as top players are not interested to join my team.

Any tips?

Qualche consiglio?

It can be a slow process in the beginning. You either have to buy youngsters that turn into world class players, or sign higher profile players. You will be limited with who you can sign, but there will be the odd player that will join (probably for higher than average wages). As you sign higher profile players, better players will be interested in joining your team. As for the refusing new contracts, that can be a difficult one. If they just refuse to discuss terms then I will try to offload them as soon as possible to avoid losing them on free (even though they may be one of your best players). Also, when negotiating contracts always try to sign them for as long as possible. You might find that the reason your good players values are so low is (as well as the low team reputation) because they are nearing the end of their contract.

Also, don't trust the "not interested" filter. I often have no problems signing players that would normally be filtered out.

  • Investing in your youth players, send them on loan for a season or two then throw them in the deep end
  • Buying players with expiring contracts, the club will give them to you for a much reduced price or even free
  • Transfer listed by club, same as above but you pay a little more
  • Offer to clubs, drop their valuation price then negotiate above the asking price when the bid comes in

- youth, youth, youth. Scout all players in the 16-20 age bracket in every region. Particularly South & North America. (When setting up a save make sure these two regions in particular are loaded)

- don’t always trust your scout, if a player in this age bracket looks good, they should improve further due to their age.

- this being said, if you can’t sign gold scouts and coaches, have your existing ones take their test. If they fail more than twice, fire them and hire the highest level you can. Then immediately get them to take their assessment. High level coaches will enable your players to reach their potential. High level scouts will ensure the potential of players you sign is correct.

- at every opportunity request training facilities be upgraded

- prioritise training facilities to ensure players reach their full potential, but also request youth facilities when you can. At the level of the danish league good youth players could make all the difference.

- loan out those who have high potential but dont make your main team or rotation, but don’t be afraid to use younger players where possible. They will always improve more if you are playing them rather than a loan I find, especially if you have improved your facilities as mentioned above.

- oh, did I mention signing youth players?!

When I reject offers for them, is there any negative effect on the players attributes except morale drop?

Today I just lost my best player. He refused to extend contract so I had to offload him in his final season for like 20M to Man City. After he joined Man City, his value went up to 110M...

They can get unhappy and really force your hand to sell. One trick is to accept the offer and then cancel it when the transfer confirmation comes up. Then there's no downside whatsoever.

That happens unfortunately. If you overperform you'll find it a lot easier to keep hold of players, but there's always those that will want to leave. Tend to be the ones with little loyalty or ambitious.
