Help Role Traits

How does a player gain different/new role traits?

In the examples below Phil Foden in my Leeds team has 3 role traits. In another save where he is still at City he has 7 - including 'gets into opposition area'. I thought maybe this is due to learning to play in another position but he plays the same positions in both saves.

Do they gain new traits based on differences in training? mentoring? Age/experience?

Any ideas?

Now I'm even more confused. So I signed the Foden at City with 7 role traits and the second he signed for me 4 traits disappeared and he's left with the usual 3 traits. It's annoying as one of the reasons I'm signing him is for the 'gets into opposition area' and then it immediately disappears...

I'm curious if these aren't descriptive, rather than prescriptive like we've believed all along

Had koopermans who I bought for a RP trained only as a RP lose all traits an picked up only “marks opponents tightly” once he peaked so I couldn’t retrain him to BWM

I'm using a tactic I've created which I may end up posting after I've tested with another team. In that tactic 1 role in particular works great when the player has the 'gets into opposition area' trait. If the player doesn't have that trait then he performs poorly.
