Tactics 3-3-3-1 El Loco

As a Leeds fan and especially after the season so far I have been a little nostalgic for 3331 so I decided to try a tactic I came across on YouTube for FM22 last year but made some changes.. 

this is my first time posting a tactic so bear with me a little.. am about half way through the season and injuries have been pretty low..

Formation:

This is formation.. I had Adams as DLP but it wasn’t going anywhere with the movement and link ups with the central CB.. IW allowed for overlaps pretty nicely with the WBs.. AM and AF connect well so far.. Gnonto (who I also push to the Left IW a lot) has been pretty good.. Rodrigo not so much (end up putting him AM most of the time) but we are pretty thin up front.. bamford hasn’t been effective

tactics:

You will notice I have the line back (not very el loco I know but looking at the team and starting to test this I wanted to be a little more practical and not leak goals.. like I said this season for a Leeds fan does this to a person).. passing style I switch between mixed (More bielsa like I would say) and short.. short has actually been pretty smooth considering we have no central midfield.. in some games I may move up the central CB (roca as he is a midfielder by nature) to DLP and Adams up one to CM to get that bielsa feel of have having 2 defenders on one striker when playing against a loan striker but generally I like to stay in this formation.. 

Results:

Now here is a shocker..

The defence has been solid.. goals haven’t been flowing either but it’s turned out pretty solid.. games have been fun to watch and interplay between the players nice with some lovely overlaps..

Anyway I am still messing around with it and will restart a play through multiple times before settling on it but I think it’s a pretty promising.. obviously (like I said up top) the WB need an upgrade (on the left like in reality) and a proper striker (will try and buy Rutter now!!).. but definitely the surprise for me has been the defence with the players we have.. the wingers have been really good and probably the AM needs an upgrade

I am definitely open to ways to improve this or make it more Bielsa style (have never tried man marking on FM Mobile.. so any tips on setting that up would be good too)

About to go into 23-24 with Leeds so I'll give it a go with my current squad.

Nice.. looking forward to the update. 
 

edit: one thing I concentrated on was focusing training technique and decisions for the players.. stamina is a good one but because you the team has two players per position already I rotated a lot and the 5 subs is great

Update:

tested this tactic (no changes) with Tottenham (no players bought) as they have decent WBs, wingers and obviously Harry Kane. Just passed the WC break and here it is so far:

Front 4 can pretty much rotate effectively.. Kulsevski was the main AM at first but injuries across the 4 made me bring back Ndombele (really effective in the AM slot so I am glad I did) from loan and I think someone else.. 

 

Top of the table. Solid defence and good goals scored. Which brings me on to this

Results:

started pretty patchy (can’t explain the Chelsea game.. Kane was injured but still.. will show screen shot below).. still qualified top of group in Champions League, in the League Cup and FA Cups and after WC (slotted in 3 friendlies during the break) it’s been firing on all cylinders..

just one of those days away from home..

it’s January and I I have set up some transfers to come in the summer (one on a free.. Danilo is a loan back) (started season with no reputation so board hasn’t given me anything to spend which is why I sold Hojberg)

still liking the base set up I have.. not quite the El Loco craziness I was looking for but you have that quick attack with some lovely moves and interlinking plays that happen quick (tried the overload makes it too hectic and didn’t seem to flow right.. the attacking set up is just right) which is a trait we saw in Bielsa.. the options at RP with Tottenham aren’t really suited (Adams for Leeds was more impactful than Bentancur and Bissouma)… thinking maybe make the central CB a Libero and see if he pushes forward a little more (but I sold hojberg who I was thinking I may use).. but in both the Leeds and the Tottenham saves the defence has been solid with not that great quality players at the back.. again big difference (which shows in goals) is quality of Leeds front 4 and Tottenhams..

When I look at it at this point he’s an IF on the right… 

interestingly just noticed their manager is Kjetil Knutsen
