Tactics Brighton 4-3-3 with lots of set-piece goals

Hi everyone, it's my first time posting here even tho I've been a member for 3 years.

I've been trying many tactics from here, found 2 that were nice but after the update nothing seems to work for me. I've noticed that almost everyone goes for Attacking or Control mindset from the start and it made me think that maybe AI, after some time, understands that you will play offensively from the start, regardless of your position in the table, and plays defensive football even if they're placed above you. Another thing which is very important is that if things don't go well, you only have the option of going Overload which can be risky.

TACTICS

Bearing that in mind, I started a new save with Brighton and decided to go for balanced shape when starting the match. I set up other stuff as if I was playing attacking (high press, fast tempo) but put my defensive line on balanced to prevent counter-attacks.

For the attack tactics I went with overlap for the wingbacks and short passing. I put this as an experiment first thinking there's no way it works since those 2 kind of contradict each other but it actually does very well. Your wingbacks get many crosses into the box or you get lots of corners which I'll talk about later. On the other hand short passes are perfect to get the ball to the wingbacks on the flank and to the striker through the middle. Goes without saying that you need a striker with a good heading.

Moving on to the roles, SK is kinda obvious choice, BPDs, as everyone's been saying, need to be fast, solid heading. I feel like WBs are finally good in FMM and they're solid for this tactic(they can get overwhelmed on the counters sometimes). Midfield - every tactic I tried from here had RP and I'll be honest, it's the best role in whole FMM right now, not just midfield. BBM is 2nd best if you have a beast who can run like Caicedo. The 2 of them will always end up in or at the egde of opponents box when you attack and score decent amount of goals if they have shooting 11+. The DPL will stay behind, give passes to WBs and defensively even cover the DMC position which is something that surprised me. IFs are still kinda useless but tbh they make more space for the wingbacks and you have more heads in the box when they cross(if your IFs have solid Heading it's a big plus). If you're lucky they'll score around 10-12 goals in a season. The striker can be PF or DLF and as I've said before with good heading.

SET-PIECES

I got many(if not most) of my goals from set-pieces, especially corners. You can see it by the amount of goals and assists that MacAllister and Gross, my 2 takers have. I have 2 teams(1 for PL and 1 for cups/Europe). I didn't do anything special, when defending used all 10 outfield players (when defending corners put 1 to defend short). Attacking wise put only the WBs to stay back when having corners and right/left freekicks. Gave special roles to some players in the box when having corners, nothing special but it somehow works. You'll see i put FAR POST when taking corners but for some reason crosses end up on the egde of the box, center or most often at the near post where i positioned one of the attackers. Idk if it's some new kind of corner exploit but at least its more beautiful than CB mark and everyone back since its not just 1 guy scoring 30 goals. Again, it goes without a saying, you need a very good setpiece taker, in my opinion he needs to be at least 3.5 stars, maybe even 4. I'll post the tactic here i hope it's downloadable, if not tell me in the comments. fm_tactic1.tacfm_tactic2.tac

RESULTS & COMPETITIONS

I experimented a lot in the 1st season till I found all this and I finished 2nd behind City who had like 15-20pts more. In the 2nd season with all this from the start I won PL which was tough cuz Tottenham was super good(Kane had 35 goals), won both cups and even Europa League after dropping from UCL. The only teams who outplayed me in PL were Chelsea(lost away, drew at home) and Tottenham(Kane scored all 4 goals in that 4-2 defeat). Screenshot_20230124_002907_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.9990c0e420cb80b2dfe1e0ce9b88b7cd.jpg

AFTERWORD

Last but not the least, if your team didn't perform well in the 1st half(u find yourself losing, or its a draw) demand more from your players at half time team talk and switch to Attacking shape. In the game against Blackburn which I won 2-3 i was behind 2-0 at HT but did all of the mentioned and equalised around 80th minute. Switched to Overload after that, subbed in the GOAT Danny Welbeck and he scored a 92nd minute winner which ultimately brought us the title.

If anyone tries this, please share your experience. I recommend trying it with Sounthampton since you have Prowsy for setpieces. If i forgot to mention something or if u wanna ask me please do in the comments, thanks and goodluck

@Lanmi99 Would you be able to screenshot your attacking corner setup, please?

Great job with Brighton by the way, they have a quality base to start a save with!

Thanks mate.

Yeah, I only bought couple of players:

-Remiro from R. Sociedad to replace Sanchez who went to Inter

-Madueke since there wasn't a good left footed IF in the team

-Bought Ivan Ilic and Conor Gallagher for cheap (35M combined) and sent them on loan in season 2 and now again in season 3 to Newcastle. I expect them to improve a lot

Apart from those all other players are still from Brighton, that's how good they are. I bought Endrick also but he's still in Reserves slowly gonna give him minutes now in 3rd season.

Don't wanna brag but Rushworth and Ferguson are beasts rn. Had Remiro train Rushworth's techique and Welbeck train Ferguson's Teamwork and Heading. Ferguson is tired a bit here otherwise he would have 11 dribble 15 decisions and 19 movement...also they can both still improve which is crazy

This tactic is underrated. Tried it with my Bordeaux (third season) and we dominated the league despite some bad injuries during the year, in particular the 8 months of Collins that forced me to play all the season with my backup (Garcia McNulty). In Champions League we had a great run even if the tournament was not so hard for us (we eliminated Dortmund, Betis and Ajax); the final was incredible, we went down by two goals against City, Sissokho was sent off but we had big heart, tied the game and won it on penalties.

The only negative note is the final of the french cup, lost 0-1 against Lyon playing an horror first half.

This is my team and the results:

Glad that it worked for you :D

I tried it with Morecambe in the League One and after a tough 2 seasons gained promotion and now I'm sitting 7th in Championship. It works great as long as you have players for the specified roles.

Update:

I messed with the tactic a bit and came up with another one that's solid. I pulled wingers back to AML/R, switched to fullbacks and changed some attacking instructions but rest is pretty much the same.

The downside is that you don't score much, 1.5~1.7 goals per match but in return you rarely concede(Had 0 losses when I went 1-0 up whole season). You usually have 55+ possesion and maybe every 3rd game you have 60+ which is probably the reason you concede low number of goals. As for low scoring, your ST is pretty much lonely(he still scores 20+ tho) since IFs are still moving like Wingers for some reason even tho they said they fixed it.

Most important is that u need to change shape in match. I use balanced against stronger opponents and control against easier teams. If I can't score i switch shape to the next offensive one + set creativity to Expressive. If the tactic gets me the result in the 1st half i don't change it usually but sometimes i switch to more defensive shape(control>balanced, balanced>counter). You need to hit it right so this is not Plug an play at all.

In my Bilbao save managed to win La Liga in both seasons, scored 59 in 1st, 63 in 2nd but conceded just 24 and 13(crazy) in 2nd. IFs are useless, Nico Williams scores 10-15 but Morcillo for example scored just 2 in 37 games...the tactic works tho so I'm keeping them. Striker gets 20+ ez(Inaki 26 and 23).

I personally don't like low scoring tactics but this save is too good to drop so I'm continuing with it for now.
