Tactics 5230

I started a save with 1860 Munich and decided to play a striker less 5320 formation it served me well, I ended up thought switching it to a 5230 formation which worked better, by the time I switched to that due to success at 1860 I'd got a decent team so decided to start a new game and give the formation a test. I picked Southampton and had transfers disabled for 1st window to keep their existing squad.

The formation is a very solid one and barring 1 mad game against wolves which broke the mould and finished 5 4 we would have had the best defensive record. We still ended up with join best record defensively and got top 3! 202833891_Screenshot_20230131_082439_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.49f1772487a76f05f01569563a74182a.jpg1839905541_Screenshot_20230131_082431_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.b6d3bb724de54504306ce9914be1568c.jpg590439930_Screenshot_20230131_082125_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.4e6e4596bd73f7a544eebbf1461635cb.jpg1631116796_Screenshot_20230131_082117_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.8c65676646eded13db6eaef6d7627c53.jpg840732638_Screenshot_20230131_082109_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.cd9bb4207bcf00ea8c3207f54845ecbd.jpg982793890_Screenshot_20230131_082103_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.3bcc4d10927cfd72c74b6f8ca4ee9248.jpg1008139363_Screenshot_20230131_082058_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.501a2f0b144dd6cd0a068750be44311d.jpg

Interesting idea!

Are you planning on spending big for the 2nd season?

3rd is great without changing the Southampton squad.

I was going to comment on the immediate lack of goals scored, but perhaps that's fair for the starting 11 you had.

I'd like to see how you get on with a stronger attacking line to see if you can score more while keeping it as tight at the back!

Yep going to be concentrating on improving the front 3 during pre season will be seeing how I can attract and what sort of budget I'm given

So couldn't continue the Southampton save to see how it got it with stronger attack and keeping tight at back as needed to get a new phone due to being a dope and breaking my old one.

So started a quick season with liverpool probably a bit too strong the other way but still good results at the back and goal went in well1858673707_Screenshot_20230201_231156_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.b4f928ce32c48128ba27a7836701e7ad.jpg1020123072_Screenshot_20230201_231146_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.5009a6c3947687575aa7f6d977a167cf.jpg

I've just completed my 1st season as Newcastle using this, as I have done with other tactics!

That involved a full rebuild, practically a new starting 11, which looked like this:

IMG_0148.thumb.PNG.ab4b7058d041205e97122e6a016df048.PNG

About half way through the season, I wasn't quite satisfied with how many goals we were scoring, so the only change I did was change from Attacking to Overload - and it did pick up the amount of goals being scored without sacrificing how solid this tactic is at the back. I'd recommend this as it means those annoying 1-0/1-1 games are no longer much of an issue.

Like any tactic, it takes a while to kick in, especially if you're like me and sign a new team!

Anyway, we won the league:

IMG_0147.thumb.PNG.2b951595c456efe0733f96b2601d19e5.PNG

Goals scored is decent enough and would have been more if I'd switched to Overload sooner in the season, but 14 goals conceded is by far the least of any of the tactics I have tried - especially when that back 5 isn't exactly world class.

Big well done mate! I'm going to carry this save on and see how we get on in Europe.

Nice I tried going overload from start in my 2nd season getting a quick goal just back to attack which is getting rid of the odd draw.

Finished the 2nd season:

Gutted to have finished 2nd, but it’s always hard the first season in Europe competing on 2 fronts. Happy to have won the Champions League.

Added some quality depth for season 3 and have also taken the England job too.

My second season at Liverpool going crazily well! But obviously a lot stronger squad to begin with got rid of matip and brought in timori and Henderson for Bellingham, the defence turned into a mountain first league goal I conceded with on 26 December 1769413007_Screenshot_20230204_193041_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.eca241cf9849b1d5edb9ea88ab0004fd.jpg111269806_Screenshot_20230204_193028_FM23Mobile.thumb.jpg.cb4830b8b5b5768fc3b9078e09ae51a2.jpg

Finished the 3rd Season:

IMG_0151.thumb.PNG.0ba52fd1edf8f01b638ce35f3c381b88.PNG

We also won the F.A Cup:

IMG_0152.thumb.PNG.b6e1ba7f2bf66d5c8757961332749daa.PNG

And the Champions League:

IMG_0153.thumb.PNG.e10ea0cacd50eb2aac561984485d7e76.PNG

We then won the Club World Championship:

IMG_0155.thumb.PNG.e1ef2e712ade25561af72f69b36e2a82.PNG

With England, I took the job on after they were kicked out of the Euros, so much of my time has been qualifying and then the International League - which we won:

IMG_0154.thumb.PNG.167b93770fd3aa6e39f95e8496e11835.PNG

My Newcastle team have a good balance of top class talent and emerging youth, so instead of buying several players for the 4th season, I spent all of my budget on Phil Foden. He's been brilliant for me with England in one of the Support Striker roles.

So far in the 4th season we've won the Community Shield and played 3 games, winning 3 without conceding a goal.

This tactic is just so reliable. It doesn't score heavily on a regular basis and you will have a few 0-0 or 1-1 draws in there, but persevere and you'll get games where teams just get nowhere near and you're in complete control.

My most enjoyable save on this years game - just to note, I have kept Overload on since the change mid-way through the 1st season as I think that makes this tactic better offensively.

Top work @Mushy!

Congrats to those with such impressive results.

I really like the look of this tactic. With the difficulties people have had using IFs in the past few months, this is one of the most balanced tactics I’ve seen for playing through the center.

Three suggestions:

  • Libero - has anyone tried changing the central DC to a Libero? I assume the should step forward into the DMC position, but I haven’t tested them in this years FMM.
  • DMC - if you’re a completely dominant team (Celtic), perhaps you can move a DC into a DMC. You’ll concede a few more, but should have better build up play. Again haven’t tested this though.
  • IWBs - has anyone tried changing the WBs to IWBs? Theoretically from the DMR/L positions they should drift into the AMLC and AMRC positions when attacking (positions which the SS’s started from, but have now vacated). This sacrifices width + crosses for (hopefully) more central playmaking options … ?
  • Edited In - Man Marking - do you recommend changing the man marking options depending on your opponent’s formation? E.g. switch it on for the outside DCs if the opposition has 2 STs, e.g. switch it on for the central DC if the opposition has 1 ST … or you don’t change it at all?!

Just some ideas 🙂 nice tactic!

Woth regards to libero I've tried it in other formations and it never seems to work, haven't tried it in this formation but will give it a go aand see how it works. I never switch the man marking just leave it and seems to work well against all oppo formations. I'd never move the 3rd cb into dm as I've always been a flat back 3 man since started playing cm in 1995 and never change 😂😂

Hi @Mushy - I loved the look of your tactic so much that it inspired a whole new thread!

Have thoroughly tested the SUITABILITY of this tactic for Man. United’s starting squad - in TWO posts on this thread - enjoy! 👍

Got bored with my Newcastle save.

Started a new save as Darlington in the National League North.

We’ve secured a playoff spot with 12 games to go.

This is using overload as the only change from the original tactic posted.

That's 3 straight League wins with 294 goals scored in the league, 62 goals conceded.

Managed to get Coady & Buendia in on frees, but quite a low budget to work with - League 1 is going to be hard!

Good results with Darlington. What type of players or attributes do you find are key for the Shadow Strikers?

Definitely shooting, dribbling, movement and some pace would be good. When doing a search for them, I don’t have the AM slot highlighted and have often retrained wingers or strikers to play there.

The front 3 interchange nicely and get plenty of chances, so decisions would be one too.

For the AP, creativity, decisions and technique.

One major one is for the wing backs, positioning is very important I’ve noticed.

I really did think we'd struggle with a reasonable quality jump. Ended up selling a couple of my prized youngsters with big offers, which allowed me to get some experienced players in who gelled nicely.

That's 4 straight League wins!
