Help Help with tactic and consistency

Hello everyone, I'm quite new here and to new to Football manager mobile aswell. (I prefer using fake names in the game, also I got a tactic from here, sorry I forgot whose tactic this is but thanks. )

So I started Football manager maybe 6 months ago, I learned everything, how to manage the team all the features/functions of the game. I created my own tactic ( I thought it was good but turned out bad. ) I first expiremented with some top teams if I could keep them in 1st place in the league, maybe win champions league etc. So I did that with Barca, and it turned out well I kept Barca in 1st place in La Liga for 10 consecutive seasons and won 5 Champion Leagues and 2 Europa leagues.

I was happy so I moved onto a harder team to manage. I picked Stuttgart since they have good money but not the greatest reputation or team. I manged them for the past 3 weeks, I am on season 4 and I never got higher than 5th place in Bundesliga, and I won the Conference league once. I have a good team most players with good stats and most are also 4 or 5 stars. I have good tactics but just super inconsistent, I even somtimes win with Bayern, Dortmund or Leipzig but then I lose a lot to very small teams, even then I somehow finish 5th luckily. I'm about to be sacked aswell. I am very confused. If someone can help out, please do.

Well from what I can see is that. In the final third you want your players to look for the overlap ie you want your full backs to join in attack when you are in possession. However I have also noticed that your keeping your width narrow and what I understand from that is you want your players to narrow the pitch and thus leaving little space for your fullbacks to attack . Trying changing the width to either balanced or wide to widen the pitch and give space for your fullbacks. Hopefully that will help you out. And hope other members on what to do

I am doing  a save similar to your tactic will tag you when I drop it

Nice tactic + nice topic 👍

The most effective 432 I’ve seen since the update is the ‘updated & great again’ welcome to Wrexham 442.

  • it has wingers (who act like central STs! on narrow width) instead of IFs
  • it also has a BWM, to protect the defense.
  • I tested it thoroughly on my ‘testing tactics’ thread with Man Utd + it performed very well.

For your tactic, you’ve got 5 players attacking, but the instructions seem odd:

  • Overlap - if you really want overlap switched on, then you’ll need WBs + a mixed passing focus. Otherwise switch it off.
  • Through balls - with 4 ST/IFs, there won’t be much space for through balls - the opposition defense will be quite narrow + crowded. Switch off.

But it’s defensively where you have a BIG PROBLEM.

  • No defensive midfielder - opposition AMCs / attacking midfielders are incredibly effective if they are unmarked, with time + space - the red zone highlighted in the image above.
  • You need a defensive midfielder - either a DMC or an Anchor / BWM in the MC position. Change your CM to a BWM, so they drop deeper to cover the opposition AMC.

Also you’re outnumbered in midfield.

  • Perhaps move a ST back to the AMC position to become an SS? They’ll still help your high press, but will also press the opposition. DMCs and still get forward to act like a ST.

Thoughts? 🙂

Hello @DanEnglish What do you think about him having one of his fullbacks turn into an inverted fullback such that during possession the inverted full back moves into midfielder to give cover for the advanced playmaker who is high up the pitch.

Thoughts?

That’s a great idea:

  • If the DL has decent passing (e.g. similar or better to their crossing)
  • and especially if the two STs don’t have dominant aerial / strength (i.e. <15)
  • then having the DL as a IWB makes a lot of sense

edit - in the unlikely event that his STs are both aerially dominant (+17 aerial + strength) AND his DL is a superb crosser (or terrible passer) … then keeping the DL as a FB would make sense

Oh thanks. Anyways on a completely different note, I am trying to do a save with the same formation but different tactics from this. In my formation I want to have a false 9 but since its not here in  fmm....then is the Deep Lying Forward closest to a F9 ?

Either a DLF or a Treq. Others would have to advise which of those two is most similar to a F9 as I don’t know

Not much to do here

I have 2 suggestions of you really like your 4222 formation

1: change your IFs to Wingers and then your 2 Strikers to target men

Team shape (control, tempo balanced, no overlap(the fullbacks will make deep crosses) final third instruction run at defence, no other instruction)

Change your AP to BWM or another CM

This works multiple occasion on diff teams for me, especially my wolves save where I turned Diego Costa to a beast

Jimenez did well too but had more of assists (19G/A)Diego Costa 24 goals and 4 assists and Guedes 9 goals cos I sometimes used him as a striker but my full backs got average 5 assists each

Alternative

Change your strikers to DLPs they will give assists to your IFs

I hope you don't get sacked 😭😂

Thanks for the reply @DanEnglish, So I tried out your tips sadly the tweaks failed miserably (I also got sacked so I just made a new save to start out fresh) , so then I tried out the 442 you reccomended, it worked really well and I was happy but then onto my, I think 20th match it just started failing and at the end of the season I finished in 10th place. So yeah maybe it's the players that did not match the tactics well, I am not sure but I liked the tactic and some matches were very entertaining. But now I am coming back to my second point, consistency. Yes the 442 tactic was great but I ran into the same problem, it wasn't consistent sometimes I even won 7-0 but then lost to 3rd division teams in the      DFB-Pokal somehow.

Then I tried out what @PrinceMadu has suggested, and as of right now it's performing well, I didn't get through my first season with it yet though. But the tactic is really working out well for my team, it's consistent and I see very good scores. (Usually winning with 2 goals more than the other team) I did draw with bigger team such as Bayern, Dortmund or Liepzig, but most of the matches were wins which I am happy about since I am in 1st place right now. I will keep trying this tactic for the next few seasons and update you guys here.

Thanks for all the replies this really helps me out since I am so new here. 😁
