Chat A general way to develop each position (Question)

Hello,

Do you have a general way that you train youngsters for each position when you do not know which role you will use it for in the future?
Or do you always have specific role in mind?

e.g.
CBs: Train as central defender but with focus on passing to be able to play as BPD.
FBs/WB: Train as FB but with focus on crossing to be able to play as WB.
MIDs: Train as central midfielder but with focus on creativity to be able to play as DLF or APM.
Wingers: Train as inside forwards but with focus on crossing to be able to play as Wingers.
Attackers: Train as CF to be ready for all roles.

Or am i doing this wrong? Missing out on potential by making them more generalists instead of specialist?

The reason i am asking is because i am never able to stay with one tactic season after season. I always want to try out new things.

Thanks

I tend to train a player to the role I think suits them best. So, yeah I always have a specific role in mind. The only exception is when I’m training them to be better in another position and that role isn’t available there.

But then I pick a tactic I like for the current FMM version and stick with it more often than not (unless there’s some sort of specific challenge I’m doing that requires something in particular from the team or a player)

The only thing is you get way more stat gains playing a youth player than just training. I wonder if you need to plan ahead a bit and practice your next season’s tactic every so often in the current season. Try and get the youth players stats up in the position/role you want every so often.  Or I suppose try to have a mentor for them in that future role that raises the particular stat you’re looking at.

If I'm playing a normal save I tend to do something like...

GK - GK

LB/RB - Wingbacks/Inverted Wingbacks

CB - BPD with a focus on aerial. That's the same as CB with passing and dribbling. If young i might put a focus on pace for a bit to get him super speedy.

CM - Box to box if defensive minded, RP if creative/technical. I like RP as opposed to AP as it trains shooting and teamwork too

IF - IF focus on pace or movement

CF - Complete forward

it all depends really a bit of both for me, there are some things that are non negotiables I try to get all physical attributes of a player up to 12, till 18-19 I train them in the role that has the most physical attributes e.g cms would be BWM with special training on pace (unless stamina is terrible 5/6ish as improves with game time)

full backs are the same an when young are trained as wing back for stamina but this is also because I will train technique once tech an/or dribbling is above 12 the “knocks ball past opponent, moves ball to left before etc” are removed then I will look to see where they are strongest an train the other role

e.g a 20 year old fb with 13 crossing an dribbling but low tackling passing I’ll train as a full back as their crossing etc will reach 15/16 naturally  with game time.

fyi: don’t ask me why but 12 seems to dictate player traits as the minimum lvl attribute he need to have or lose one. For example if you have a ST with plays no throughball work his teamwork to 12 it will go (removed trait) likewise if you want a BWM to “dive into tackles” 12/13 on aggression he should get it (added trait)
