Tactics Franky's TOTAL DOMINATION Tactic (season unbeaten W37 D9 L0)

Hi all. I've not played FM since 2016  so am returning after a long time away. For those who can remember that far back and beyond, I created some of the most popular and successful tactics back in the day. Just google "Franky's Blitz Tactic" as that's probably the most popular tactic on the SI forum and also the Dugout forum up until 2016 when I stopped playing the game. I created several others that were also very successful but my Blitz tactic was by far the most popular.

Anyway, I've created a new version of my TOTAL DOMINATION tactic just for FM23 mobile. The idea is to dominate the play (not necessarily possession) with fast, fluid attacking play and the player positioning is strategically done in order to dominate the second ball (i.e. get to the loose balls first), as well as being watertight at the back. Started my Wycombe game in League One and first season made it to the play offs with a different tactic. Second season played exclusively with this one and with a board expectation of a mid table finish, went the whole league season unbeaten, winning 37 and drawing 9. Had a couple of runs of ten or so games without conceding so it's defensively very solid.

You can use the 'pick team' option which will work but if you want a more hands on approach, below is a breakdown of the positions/roles and attribute requirements.......

GK - he plays it long so kicking is an important attribute. The tactic is designed to mop up clearances so the keeper's long kicks will get headed back into the middle of the park and picked up by one of your players.

WING BACKS - they push up to supplement the attack so dribbling, crossing and pace are important. Good stamina also helps.

CENTRE BACKS - Pace is important to avoid getting done on the counter.

DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER - this is the guy that makes the tactic tick, he's literally a ball magnet. With so many players bombing forward, he holds his position in the middle of the park to mop up clearances and recycle possession, as well as always providing a passing option when others are marked tightly. Needs to be strong defensively.

BOX TO BOX MIDFIELDERS - two of these guys in the team and they get forward to create and score goals and then flank the DM when on defensive duty. Other than general midfield attributes, creativity, shooting and passing are what to look for.

INSIDE FORWARDS - like the two BBMs, they create and score goals. Good dribbling, shooting and pace are what's needed with decent crossing ability a bonus. Very important to have a left footer on the right wing and a right footer on the left, otherwise their attacking ability may not be as effective.

SHADOW STRIKER - your main goalscorer so needs striker like ability. Shooting and movement are the two main attribute requirements but pace comes in really handy as well because the keeper's long kick will sometimes clear the defence and if the shadow striker is quick, he can latch onto it and be in on goal for a 'one on one' with the keeper. From a defensive perspective, he plays a very important role and that's to cover the area between the centre of the opposition's defence and midfield, effectively cutting out the short passing option for their defenders so they just clear it long. What this does is it limits the quality of the opposition's build up play which negatively impacts upon the quality of their attacks and one of the reasons for your team's rock solid defence.

TACTIC USAGE......... you can start every game with the default Attacking mentality but if you anticipate a tough match, switch to Control after going ahead. At any point in the second half, if you're satisfied with the score and want to keep it that way, you should switch to Counter mentality, set tempo to slow and use the 'time wasting' option to play out the remainder of the game.

Only started playing the game around 10 days ago this August so the tactic has been developed for version 14.4.0......... I think that covers everything so that's it, please give feedback on how you get on as that makes the time spent developing the tactic worthwhile. Obviously not as deep as the PC version but still requires several hours of testing and tweaking.

EDIT: I changed the centre backs to Ball Playing Defenders but after playing some more, have come to the conclusion that they should be set to Central Defenders as that seems to be a bit tighter defensively with them attempting less risky passes.

I'll try this with my Genoa save and maybe will tweak some of the stuff to fit with what I have.

Let us know how you get on but just keep in mind that it's a very attacking tactic so may not work so well with underdog teams.

Hello, I'm back. I'm actually surprised with how much your original tactics almost works for me in the earlier seasons, considering Genoa is on the miserable side of how substandard their players at. At first it's just nonstop draw and losing, until the system finally settled when I tweak it to fit the subpar quality of my players.
