It says that the app will still be available on the AppStore and Google Play but you need a membership to Netflix so you can sign in.

Does that mean you can pay for the game in the AppStore then create a free account with Netflix to play?

Do Netflix have a free account as in I can create an account but not need to sign up to a payment plan?

Feels a real half arsed announcement that is hiding the fine details to me.

Wrote a letter to the developers regarding those interesting news. I hope they will provide an answer

Anyone seen the shite they have in way of films on Netflix!?!

Also what do you get for the £4.99 package as no way is that giving you everything Netflix have on multiple devices and in HD. More like it means you can watch or play games just on a mobile which isn’t exactly great.

They can wrap it up how they like but for many people who aren’t arsed by Netflix they are expecting people to pay £60 for a mobile game.

I’m sure financially it’s a sweet deal for SI and if you have Netflix then great you get the game for “free” but it’s not great for a great many fans of the game.

Hmmm, the real question is, if it were to be paywalled like this, what are the compensations for that? If you're telling me i have to pay £60/year just to get the base game with no unlockables. Then thats a damn shitty deal.

Giving us all the unlockables from the get go is the bare minimum SI can give to us for this stinker of a change.

If someone makes summer transfers update for fm 23, everyone will stay on this game, we all know that fm 24 will mostly be the same.

It just needs a changes.txt to make all the player changes and the club promotions and relegations. Here's how you make one:

If we shared out the work we could do all the leagues in a week or so.

I haven't figured it out yet... Just have an account created on netflix or subscription and we have to pay month to month to play?

Miles suggested it's £60 for the year to play and on the Netflix site it states you need a current subscription to play Netflix games.

The game is technically free, it’s just being launched under Netflix Games so you’ll need a Netflix subscription to play it.
However, if you’re getting that sub purely to play the game it’ll be £4.99 a month (for the ad supported tier) minimum. Interesting move by Netflix as they get more involved in gaming but it’s a very strange move for SI to go purely this route without any other options.

Exactly foxy, my misses watches Netflix all the time, and the amont of crap on there is unbelievable, most of it either spainish or American shite, never bother with it myself, but will use it for my FM 24

That’s a disappointing decision. Especially if you’ve had Netflix for a while because it’s seriously struggling to put out decent new content.

Ok, let me abandon for a moment all the poetry behind this game and think about such a move...

  • they realized the costs of all different versions are not sustainable and want to cut some. Touch last year, mobile now with these kind of moves in order to close the projects progressively
  • They realized that there are more users with Netflix, that will give more money for any download of the game than the money made with the usual price of the game on app store

Sad story. For them we are not content creators that bring life and reputation to the game. We are only NUMBERS.

I think you are pretty close to the mark. I left these comments along similar lines on the SI Games site:

So, when do we start working together to do a full update to upgrade the FM Mobile 23 to the 2023/24 season? What do we need? Where do we start?

Don't worry guys, I did it a long time ago. I didn't post the transfer update as a sign of respect to the developers. But now I don't care and will post it soon. I've done 13000 transfers.

I uploaded the update transfers:

This sort of bundling behaviour is disingenuous.

"If you wanted JUST a meal, then it would be $X a year. Which is a lot of money. But given it comes with a whole ton of cakes sent to you, it would be odd to look at it this way"

Except I just wanted a meal, now I'm coerced to be committed into something way bigger without the option of just having that meal

Disappointing that they are charging so much for this mid game. Would have been better if they released fmm24 and FM24 touch through Netflix games. Give users the worth of their money, not the same game they've been rinsing yearly at a way more expensive rate. SI did us dirty here.

Having had every release of fmh/fmm dating back to 2006 on my psp initially before moving to smartphones I have to say I am disgusted by the comple lack of appreciation from SI for the core loyal customer base.

I used to play the full game but like so many on here, no longer had the time to sit and play hours of the full game, that's why finding fmh back in 2006 was  such a great thing, it allowed me to play when I could. With the advent of smartphones this became even easier.

Every release day I would eagerly buy the game, no matter if the changes year on year were big or small.

Sadly and without warning it looks like 2023 will be my last purchase of FMM.

I do not have Netflix, I do not want Netflix, and I am not going to pay a minimum £4.99 per month for a mobile game.

Thanks SI for all the hours of fun you have provided over the last 18 years of FMH/FMM, its a shame though you have decided to dismiss your loyal customers and instead bow down to Netflix.

I was disappointed with the decision to lock FM Touch behind Apple Arcade last year, but from a business perspective it makes sense.

Netflix are pushing to get into the gaming space and this is a coup for them. Additionally, whatever cut SI get from Netflix will be more than they get from individual sales of the game.

“Loyalty to the fanbase” isn’t a thing and we have to stop pretending it is. It will always be business first as the game has to be financially viable to justify developing it.

Looks like the end of the line for me.

I cancelled Netflix 6 months ago because I never used it, and still have to challenge the charge every month from those thieving wankers.

Very disheartened by this decision.

Of course, I do sympathise with people who don't use Netflix in general, as signing up just for one game is way too expensive. But being realistic, I dont think people can really attack the developers for wanting to do it - one only has to see how many big directors have made Netflix exclusive blockbuster type films (Scorsese, del Toro, Coen Brothers) to see it must be really attractive to be on their books. And it gives a real opportunity for new users to have a free test of the product, and build a stronger fan base.

It sucks for some people, but as a business model its pretty sound.

And I guess the way Netflix have being buying indie game developers to try to build their gaming platform, adding an established named title to their portfolio is a real way they can start to get this part of their gaming offering a shot in the arm.

So to me, it makes sense.

Additionally, if it means we finally get a game that actually feels like its had some work done to it, rather than one new pointless feature bolted on, then I will be very happy.... but then again, I have a Netflix account, so maybe I am biased.

That’s the key thing.

If they are going to invest more time and money into the game then great. My hunch tells me it’s more likely they were thinking of discontinuing the Mobile version soon and this is simply a deal that saves the format.

I think it's worth buying if all the licenses are purchased in addition to having access to any German national team especially.
