Chat Best way to mentor?

What do people prefer to do when it comes to mentoring? example you play wingers so heading is important for your forward to score from the crosses, 3 players I'm picking are van persie, wonderkid good stats for his age terrible mental stats. Screenshot_20231206-151211.thumb.png.87cff025dd8707e91eec041ef637a2f6.png

Carrillo established forward still young enough to help your team (I normally go rangers) excellent areal ability and some good mental stats.

Or finally using a guy like Quagliarella who is well past his prime but still has some decent stats, better shooting stats but not as good heading as carrillo, plus a ton of positive mental traitsScreenshot_20231206-151326.thumb.png.ca77c1b75c85ea27230888108589ebc5.png

I know every player/position different mentors offer different things but what's more important to you a mental trait gain or a boost to a certain stat? No1 wants a moody, lazy player when they could pick up traits from a hardworking pro, but at the same time a defined stat boost in a certain attribute can really help with quicker player progression

I think like most people, I use Quagliarella and then when the first mentoring progress message pops up I cancel and go again until they've got max in all the traits. After that, I mentor with someone like Carillo to up the stats I want, again cancelling and going again until there's no benefit anymore.

I've seen others do the same, or similar on here too 🙂

Tbf I wasn't aware that cancelling would give improvement I'll need to try that is there a limit to how many times this could be done?

Not entirely sure if there's a limit, I think it's just when the player decides he doesn't want to be mentored anymore.

@Scratch writes about it in here, and he's 100% way more knowledgeable than me on this, I've seen it called his "double dipping technique" so worth a scroll through that thread 😅

I'll have a good read into this I've been trying it a bit this morning. Waiting on progress report then waiting a week or 2 and cancel/restart I had tried about a dozen times the day it popped up but nothing shown as improving, waiting did help tho.

I'm debating wither to use quags on multiple youth players. Not necessarily playing them so they won't over develop too quick, they should still progress but won't be accelerated as much as if they played 60 mins every other game.  Thus picking up good traits rather than star potential until they are mentally strong first? Been playing van persie fairly regular he starts at 1 star he's up to 3 already haven't hit Xmas first season yet (over development maybe, plateau too early?)

In my current save I have van persie and used Carrillo. Didn’t help his heading but his professionalism is maxed. Also helps to have professionalism as A under team dynamics.

This is 2 seasons in:

Did u use the same techniques as above, mentor/cancel/repeat? I see he's already a 5 star player is he still improving? Thats one of my worries, he will develop too fast too young and not inherit the good mental stats before he's maxed out

When you say ‘not inherit the good mental stats’ do you mean mental attributes like aggression / decisions / etc, or do you mean personality traits / hidden attributes like professional, determined, hard working, etc … ?

More the personality traits, tho decisions/movement seems to be extremely important as I found out last year with my endrick to 1k challenge think his decisions topped out at like 13, shooting and areal were 19/20 but he was offside about 40 times a season🤣

I did mentoring experiment in my saves, playing Gateshead.

1. I found that the personality of the mentor (Thinkler - D/MRC) is changed from normal to dedicated (professional leader). Thinkler was 16 in leadership before the mentoring, after finishing the mentoring his leadership up to 17. He did the mentoring to a DC while Thinkler playing position as FB, although Thinkler also has natural position as DC. The mentee skill was greatly changed in leadership, decision, tackling, positioning and passing (2 -3 points), those tackling and positioning I wasn't sure because of the mentoring since Thinkler is weak on those. Oh btw, mentor/mentee age was 28/23. Both player personality was normal, so the mentoring process itself could have impacted to mentor personality. This change of personality also improve the team dynamics because Thinkler was one of the influence, the professionalism was C before and it was B after the mentoring end.

2.  A 27 year old normal/not determined personality striker mentoring a 23 temperamental AMFRLS which ended up the mentee as a driven personality with addition of green thumb of hardworking - it confused me. Only shooting and movement improved after mentoring (1 point), maybe Dinanga is not a good mentor anyway because his personality.

3. A 28 year old of AM/MC - advance playmaker with normal personality (somewhat unprofessional & leader) mentoring a 20 year old MC (determined and professional) really went well because of improvement in most of important skills for MC like passing, movement, positioning up from 12-13 to 15-16, it made his recommended role changed from CM to roaming playmaker. No change in personality for both at the end of mentoring. I think the mentor has a good determination too because he always became focused after demanding team talk. So it's safe to say that mentoring the similar personality would ended up with better improvement in visible skills.

I still have a couple mentoring going on, including a mentoring from a 25 yo normal (chilled) DM/MC to a 17 yo new regen with same position and feet although this regen player personality is relentless which is quite different from the mentor (chilled black thumb). This one I will update later with screenshot.
