Help Defensive midfielder and anchor

When your team are OUT-of-possession:

  • DM (DMC) = stays relatively central, but does move sideways more often to protect the DCs. You'll often see the DM sitting in front of one DC, instead of sitting inbetween them.

  • Anchor (DMC) = stays very central, VERY STATIC, sitting in-between + in-front of the two DCs, and does NOT often move sideways more often to protect the DCs. Sometimes, when a DC pushes forward to close a wide attacker, I get the feeling the Anchor drops back a little to cover for them (but am not 100% sure on that).

When your team are in-possession - they both kind of do the same thing, staying in possession to play simple passes to nearby teammates.

Does that help? 🙂

You should make a guide like this for every position. The guides on the game for each position don’t really make it clear what those positions do for your team.

I totally agree and also how will different roles react to different kinds of tactics. For example, Teams mentality, The width, Tempo, creative freedom, The final third and finally the passing styles

You mean like this one 😉

… though it’s only some positions, not all, as was taking LOTS of time to put together!

I hate that you left out my most favorite role in FM there since the day of the great Cristiano: Inside Forward 😁.

Haha didn’t see the need to / don’t have anything interesting to say about it 😂

In all seriousness - there was a lot randomly communicated by the community + Sports Interactive when they changed how IFs work back in … er … Nov 2022 ?

So I didn’t see the need to expand on that, especially as so many people use IFs, so you can watch what they do yourself 🙂

FMM24 is the first FM mobile I've played. So, I don't have any pre-knowledge about how awful IF worked in FMM, while the last time I've played original FM (a decade ago, more or less), it still worked pretty good.

I've tried so many combinations of people's IF. Nope, nothing works like it supposed to. I suspect it might be caused by the absence of personal instructions in FMM. I've tried finding the keys myself. A bit successful in some parts, but still fail in other parts. Unfortunately, my personal playing style depends a lot on how real life IF properly works. I mean, I can win many matches without it, but those are hollow wins. Because the style is not really how I like my team to play.

Oh - IFs were great before, probably overpowered. Then they changed / nerfed them, so they act differently / less overpowered.

What do you want / expect them to do?

Oh... I always think they're great. People that invented or could exploit the role in their team are undoubtedly geniuses 👍. But overpowered? I don't think so. But let's say it is, it's not like it's cheating or against any rules, because it is close to real life situation. Nerfing them is unfair imho. Imagine nerfing Haaland / Mbappe / Oblak / etc, just because we think that they're "too good to be true" in game, while in the real life they're just REALLY THAT GOOD!

Basically, just like most of them did in the real life, and in old FM, as simple as that. Start on the wide area to pull wingers/wingbacks out, cut inside when having the ball with dribbling runs towards the box, then shoot / pass / through balls / cut back (not wasting crosses). In short, be second line goal getter if somehow lone, small striker doesn't find ways between the crowd of defenders.
