Chat Appears to lack confidence!!

So there's players who will normally be confident/motivated etc during games for months on end when their morale is high but then all of a sudden they 'appear to lack confidence' during several games continually, even with superb morale. What's going on here and how to fix their confidence?......... is it just a case of praising them or is there something else going on?
