My players are not following my set piece instructions.

Yes. It i s normal.

They won’t always. There was a tweak made to make it more realistic where sometimes they’ll follow instructions to the letter and sometimes they get bits wrong/do there own thing.

Are you using attacking / overload mentality? Especially with high creative freedom?

If either is yes, you’re asking them to take high risk / high reward decisions, or to use their own judgement - so they’ll make different decisions to what you’ve setup.
