Challenges Lord Nelson - 1k Challenge

Hey Vibe,

I've started and stopped many 1k challenges over almost a decade of FMM, but never really finished one, usually burning out, or failing to reach the mark. So instead I thought I would post here and hopefully give me some motivation to finish it off.

My player: Nelson Weiper!

 

An unconventional pick, I believe, this young striker from Mainz. I was drawn to him after seeing his development in a previous attempt with my current favourite player Assan Ouedraogo (i'll be grabbing this guy too as he always seems to become a beast). With Ouedraogo's attempt i was getting frustrated with his lack of Aerial and shoddy penalty rate, and found this guy while managing the German national team, I just hope he turns out as good in this save!

This is what we are starting out with:

Not too bad, and Mainz wouldn't let him go for cheap (22m in the end after some haggling), so here's hoping he has potential!

 

The club:

Inspired by the insane Lamine Yamal career going on at the moment at City, i needed Yanited to have a starlet of their own.

 

 

Season 1

Here's how our first season panned out:

Club:

Sadly we came second in the Prem to City, theyre just too strong losing games only to me, but basically perfect scores the rest of the way.

We did however manage a cup treble, narrowly beating Real Madrid on penalties to win the Champions league:

Transfers:

We brought in lots of Germans, in anticipation of managing the national team: Musiala, Ouedraogo, Bischof (wonderkid who seems to have some good potential), Brajan Gudra (Weiper's favoured person, and has some potential too), Vagnoman (an fm20 wonderkid throwback), and Christian Benteke for that sweet Aerial mentoring.

Lord Nelson:

Weiper has developed nicely, not anything crazy just yet but he is showing some promising signs, like his potential being greater than Hojlund's, which i'm sure makes him capable enough.

Stats:

Only 32 goals for Weiper this campaign, which is not a great start, but the team has barely gotten going. My tactics rely on some more specific player attributes, which despite being at manchester united, is hard to acquire, largely through lack of resale on our big stars. Its enough of a start while he is struggling for gametime too. Things can only get better!

 

Its a slow start to be sure, but i am sure it will improve as he and the team get more improved. I'll probably tweak tactics some more since the winter update, but hopefully with some extra motivation of posting on vibe, i'll get him over the line eventually!

Oooh. Exciting!

I take it you've fiddled with things to allow management of the German national team? I would love to do a career with a German player that requires managing those players but can't bring myself to "mess" with the game.

I have never used Weiper myself but he looks very good after a season. Considering you're using Man Utd, I wouldn't be too disappointed with that result after season one. Numbers will improve as you add better players around him.

I do feel he will struggle with pens the same way Ouedraogo did. Just a hunch. 😂 I've used so many players this year that are supposedly "effective penalty takers" but they have all been poor. It's strange. Unless I'm expecting too much?

Thanks @Dai_, after you asked I checked if I had tweaked it with this particular save, and no 😅, so this is now a national team-less 1kc, to add some spice I suppose?

I guess I can ship off some of the other Germans I bought. I'm already almost done with season 2 and its going much better, so I think I'll stick with it rather than restart.

Yeah I'm not too concerned with season 1, I always struggle to get United clicking for a season to two, or at least until city decide to start diversifying their horde of players into other teams. They already bought and keep starting Osimhen over Haaland in this one, so that's somewhat welcome.

 

Weiper doesn't actually have the effective penalty taker trait, but at least he doesn't have poor penalty taker, so that's a bonus for me!

He has resilient physique which is welcome, and he's already made me his favoured person over his supposed mate I brought along with him.

Oh no! It's still possible without INT, I'm sure.

Is it a pre-set that City sign Osimhen? They have signed him in every game I've started (when I'm not managing them, of course 😂). Haaland usually works his way back into first choice though.

I checked Weiper out after reading your opening post and he did have "effective penalty taker" and has a 3 star rating for them. I just found that even with these particular traits the penalties are really random. For me anyway. 🤷

Season 2 (Carry on my wayward (Nel)son!)

Weiper's second season was a lot better for both him and myself as a manager. He developed nicely and banged in some more goals finding his feet in front of goal. Dai was right in that he is still missing many more penalties than i would expect, but i guess we just have to live with that!

 

He was just shy of Haaland's real life premier league record and similarly just shy of Ronaldo's UCL record for goals in a season, fingers crossed they become Weiper's next season!

 

Weiper:

Our German striker had a strong season, scoring more goals, developing further and winning his first individual awards, sweeping all the top premier league player awards.

developing really well, i've been training and mentoring aerial, but not a huge improvement, hopefully we get some more movement on that front soon!

Very happy with his improved movement and shooting. His decisions improving is always great, i find that hard to improve for a lot of strikers, but seems very key too.

 

 

The Club:

We managed to win the supercup (yay), prem and champions league.

Weiper became an instant Manchester United legend scoring a first half hat trick in a Manchester Derby Champions League final at only 20 years of age! Sadly our fortunes were less positive in the Carabou Cup, the Community Shield and the FA Cup.

Goals!:

Weiper had a much better season hitting not quite 1 goal a game, but not far off. The team is still developing however and we should go upwards from here! As he matures, hopefully he can stay on the pitch longer than 60 minutes more often, so Hojlund's 17 goals will become his too?

Overall a very fun career so far, and i'm excited to see what i can do with him as the team improves and i start to snap up some regens (i've got all the top players scouted and scrapbooked, so hopefully i can identify their regens when they retire, should the game choose to put them back in right away, think i've already spotted Ibra's regen but he's not one i'm really interested in currently).

Almost finished with season 3 already, and its going even better!

Season 3 (The Weiper on the bus goes Goal Goal Goal)

It was a treble winning season for United as Weiper continued on his goal scoring rampage of the Premier League and European competitions. We came unstuck to Aston Villa at home in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup but otherwise it was a clean sweep of each other competition.

This also marks the first season for Weiper where he managed more than 1 goal per game, getting a Ballon d'Or third place for his efforts.

 

Weiper:

Developing into about the potential i had expected for him. I would have liked his Aerial to improve a bit more considering it was his training focus all season but pleased with improvements to shooting, movement, pace and strength.

Think i'll focus on his stamina now as more minutes for him is likely to be his biggest improvement in goal haul.

 

Awards:

The Club:

As stated the club won 3 competitions, failing only in the Carabao cup where we were dumped out by Aston Villa at home!

The league came down to the final match day with us trailing man city by 1 point. Brighton did us a solid by drawing 2-2 with City while we narrowly beat Everton to win by a single point. Drama!

Weiper continues to provide top class champions league final performances, this time netting an 8 minute hat trick against AC Milan with a 4th cherry on top just 13 minutes later. Struggling a little to get him going later on in games, he either bangs in a bunch in the first half, or none at all.

 

Transfers:

Picked up some much needed center back cover, along with Dembele who will become one of my starting wingers (love his versatility being equal footed). McKennie who is just fantastic cover for almost every spot on the middle and right of the pitch. Think i've identified Modric, Neuer (certain on this one) and Hummels regens but we shall see if they grow into good players for the reserves next year.

Offloaded a very complainy Shaw, Martinez with a decent offer from Real and mostly some academy and younger players who arent breaking into the 1st XI or bench.

 

Goals:

Weiper smashed in a real haul of goals this time, smashing both the premier league and Champions league season records with 47 goals and 21 goals respectively. Hojlund managed another 24 goals, so if Weiper had been on the pitch more, he could have broken 100..barely. That will be my target for next season and those afterwards as Weiper hits his peak years.

Going well here mate, I like that I don't know this guy at all!

Seasons 4, 5 and 6.
 

Managed to blow through a few seasons over the weekend and thought i would post them in one update rather than delay posting them.

Season 4

Weiper suffered his first long term injury, missing around 8 games for a month long injury during a stacked christmas period. Naturally this reduced his output for the season but he still managed to drop a good number of goals.
As a team we won the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Prem but went out in the CL quarters to Napoli.

Weiper:

Developing nicely still, and seems that he still has some growth to give. Sadly Aerial has stalled at 17 and doesnt seem to budge which is a shame as my tactics definitely have a good synergy with crossing.

Only 60 goals this season, largely due to missing a large chunk of games, but hey ho, still some goals to add.

Season 5

A quadruple and invincible season for United in season 5, the team are really getting going, however this did come with a slight reduction in the teams overall goals. Looking to maybe mix things up next season and go slightly more risky for more goals now that the team are definitely overpowered.

Weiper:

Weiper hit 20 in shooting and movement, which is more than i expected for him and he feels like the sort of guy that should be hitting those big big numbers now. As stated though, the team struggled for goals in their invicible campaign, and even though Weiper did get the lion's share of them, its not the heights we are looking for yet.

Weiper had more games than every before, but didnt quite top his season 3 goal tally netting 76 times.

Going at this rate of around 75 goals a season we would need another 10 seasons, which would make him 33. Hopefully we hit some higher highs to account for some slowing down as he approaches 30.

 

Season 6

Going a bit more risky for goals we only managed to win the Carabao Cup, finishing 2nd in the prem despite scoring 124 team goals, (conceding 63...) , losing to Preston in the 5th round of the fa cup on penalties and losing 7-6 to Barca in the UCL quarter finals. Perhaps we need to dial the risk factor back a bit?

Somehow Weiper still had some room to grow, he has now peaked i believe, with noteable improvements to decisions and dribbling.

 A new peak of 85 goals for Weiper with some club world cup games in the previous and beginning of this season adding to the appearances. Was hoping to get closer to 100, but will tweak the tactics a bit and hopefully do justice to the player that Weiper has become.

Can you please share tactics or suggest me one because I want to do this challenge but I don't know how to do. Because everytime I pick a striker to do this challenge. He scores very few goals like 31 in season one and only 20 in season 2
