Superb returns. Couple of questions:

1) did you follow scratch’s tactical instructions exactly or did you change anything.

Like I said I followed all his advice except tactics...regarding drop in weiper goals there were 2 injuries and for 2 seasons all my players wanted to leave maybe and that had some effect. Even weiper re-signed 2 months before his contract was up

How does one improve a player so much so quickly?

I still don't know how to develop Weiper properly.

This is my Weiper after a whole year of playing every possible game and getting taken off whenever he has 8+ match ratings. I mainly used Giroud to mentor him, which I thought would be a great choice.

What am I doing wrong?

He's still pretty good there. It's a bit of luck how they turn out, especially with Aerial - from memory he had one jump of about +3 for me, which is rare, but still happens every so often. How many goals did your one get? Did he get many 10 ratings (ie 2 goals)? As that will accelerate his development faster - and the faster he develops, the better his ratings, so the faster he develops etc.

Giroud is a great mentor for improving his hidden attributes - how many rounds of mentoring did you do? And if you press his personality on the second screen, what things show up (Professionalism, Hard Working etc)?

Also I see you have the Editor - how many stars of PA does he have? He can generate higher or lower, so perhaps you got a bad version?

I actually do move to Wide and Fast as my players get better, but normally not at the beginning - only have they have the skill to do it properly.

He did get a lot of goals, and lots of 2 goal games. He has 4.5* potential, so I'm assuming it wasn't a bad version.

He's now determined, professional, and consistent (hidden attributes). I mentored him as many times as I could before the effects started being negative.

Overall I would consider it good development, but it still doesn't come close to what you got. If it matters, I had him focused on pace for half a season and on aerial in the other half. Maybe you had it as a focus when it grew by 3 points?

The thing is, I had a lot of other players with impressive development using the same method. Maybe it was just bad luck.

It's doesn't matter you play wide or normal !!! Passing style matter !!! I play wide with short passing and i easily cross 100 goals mark in a very 1st season!!! With any team in league!!! I start with BBM instead of CM !! for quick level up with scoring lot's of goals !!! And I preferred to sign BWM instead normal CM - BBM !!! u can train BWM  TO CM BBM !!! they r strong in tackle and score less goals compare to normal BBM !!!

Sounds like you did everything right. Of course there is an element of randomness in the game, so it might just be bad luck and could be better next time. Or it might just be he has more updates to come than mine.

I used to swap Aerial and Pace each update, with a theory that if you left it on one of those, eg Aerial, the game might say "hmm, you've improved Aerial too much recently, so let's slow you down, no improvement this time". And then by swapping it, it would avoid hitting that artificial ceiling. I thought I got more updates to those attributes by rotating after each update (vs leaving it on one for half a season).

That said, I never proved that the game actually works like that (it was just a feeling) and more and more I am just leaving it on Pace most of the time and only swapping to Aerial occasionally if I feel it's not updating naturally. I often use players like Weiper who starts with 14 Aerial, and they seem to level up Aerial relatively easily without overly concentrating on it (though obviously not for you and as I said, I do focus on it sometimes).

I can't remember what was the focus when he got the +3, but I have seen that in other players both with and without it as a focus (probably more often when it is a focus though).

I'm not sure if that helps at all, but please let know if he does get a late burst of development or if works better with other players in future.

There's many ways to play the game, and my way might not be best! My Weiper only got 75 goals in the first season, @Nikolay22 got more than that, so I'm definitely not saying my way is best or there's only 1 way.

But I can only share what I've done and I've always found turning on fast before the whole team has levelled up a bit means more turnovers and less goals. I've definitely had it work really well when the team is better though. 

Nice tip about BWM shaped players as BBM's. I don't use BBMs because they score too much, but if the player naturally doesn't take too many shots, then that could be a great solution to that and give the extra attack BBMs provide.

75 goals is better than I score ever !!! 😁😁😁 I said 100 team goals in 1st season!!!! And BBM don't score many if u play them in wide fast shape !!! Use Wingers and WB with BBM don't use IF OR IW with BBM !!! & U CAN add 1 more Defender in ur defence!!! Beacuse 2 BBM r enough u can pair them with BWM or DLP !!!!

Not really, he didn't really develop that much after my last message. Sucks a bit, but it is what it is. He's still getting good numbers, but nowhere near 100 goals / season. Around 75, 80, 85. 

Still haven't changed the tactics since the start of the save. Now that the team is OP, is there any changes you recommend?

You can start down lower. I've done it with Oxford in L1 for eg. But as you found out, it does limit who you can sign.

For most of the squad it's not a big deal as you can get youngster who will be very good for the first couple of seasons, then upgrade them to youngsters who will be great later on. That will be fine as you get promoted up to the top tier (in some ways even easier). However, the catch is finding a striker who will be good enough long term, who will be happy enough to join a lower team now and who can actually get a work permit.

Oh, of course if there's someone you really want, you should try several times, appealing the work permit each time. Sometimes you can get it after enough appeals.
